@FragglePete Your setup is practically the same as mine, same kit, same youtube video... The only thing we are missing is the transparent proxy, although my LEA are investigating this with their supplier. They have however assigned us an additional subnet which we have hacked into chunks of IP's which get filtered at different levels, so a KS3 child, will be filtered/monitored at the appropriate level. We have used WPAD and PAC files successfully, but it proved to complicated for many popping a pac address in an Apple device, or a manual proxy on Android. Effectively killing off our previous BYOD scheme. How are you getting on with ZeroIT on Android? It's confused the few people we tried it with because it downloads as an App. And do any of your devices automatically drop the walled garden SSID and connect to the BYOD SSID after installing the profile/exe/apt like it shows in the youtube video?

I had seen the announcement from the SWGfL folk on twitter. Looks like a nice solution, and actually the same solution I am trying to get my RBC/LEA to implement. Just out of interest... have you checked with the SWGfL on using the 'admin' range for BYOD? There might be different firewall rules, which might make it not suitable for BYOD use. Probably worth checking?

You seem to have the default route in your config as ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 192.168.99.254, as well as a ip default-gateway 10.10.99.254 which might confuse things. When I was first setting up my 5412ZL I found I had to reboot the switch to get a couple of things working correctly. Silly, but might be worth a try. Which VLAN is the client connected to?

We too use a 5412zl. It seems HP have almost cornered this market!

On the main admin page, click Request More Users. Enter the amount of accounts you need, and they are automatically (or it seems to be) allowed.

Fog just attempts to book what hardware is presented to it, and copies the 0 & 1s. Just make sure you don't boot into windows in the wrong hardware, 'cos you'll lose your nice image. It's just the data you are after, so will work fine. It's after that, when you are deploying you'll need to consider drivers, once the OS boots.

Chuck the HDD in another known working machine and grab the image from there?

We charge real costs per sheet, averaged out across all printers (and charge for paper) so there is a flat rate for mono, and colour. This is the case for all printers except for two inkjets which again, charged at real costs. Speak with your reprographics dept. You want to make sure that bulk copying is cheaper on their photocopiers (and probably set limits in papercut). Otherwise you'll close their department, and be replacing toners on a daily basis!

I think I just filled out Department for Education or something similar when I did ours. I think they only really check your schools website to be honest. If they need further info, they'll contact you. It does take a couple of weeks to get approved though, or at least it did for us.

If you'd like to use that plugin, I think I'm right in saying you'll need to host the blog yourself. It's very easy to do, if you get a host.

It's a software thing.. it tells you in the controller dashboard. I'd guess the controller was licenced for 6 APs, thats a standard and there is no point paying for more licences until you need them! What feature of Ruckus makes it the solution for you, out of interest?

If you went along the wordpress route Tony suggests then may I suggest the plugin 'Social' by mailchimp? It allows people to comment using their twitter/facebook, it also imports any mentions of your blog posts on those networks (that contain the article link) as comments on your WP blog. IFTTT is fantastic. You could probably use it to check an RSS feed (your edugeek blog for example) and post it to all the other places you fancy.

We've used it a bit on XP and the kids seem to like it. The tip I was given to keep it running well was not to include any water. It kills anything but the best machines.

Pah! It seems to have been 'coming' forever... one day my tablet will get it, I'm (almost) sure. Mine doesn't seem to like changing channel when I move around our buildings. Seems to want to stay on the same channel it originally connected on, even if there is a stronger AP right next to it. Could that have anything to do with your issue?

I agree totally. Both the Ruckus installs I have done in primary sit and run day in day out with no need for anyone to touch them. It looks like Ubiquiti is similar, however if the controller packs up on the ubiquiti network, the APs carry on regardless (assuming you're not using a captive portal). Download the ubiquiti controller software from their website. Load it up an have a play - you don't need any access points. If you do just note... it seems to run only on java v6 not 7 and if you run it on a 64bit machine, you need both java 6 32 & 64 bits installed.

My team and I have installed three ruckus installs (one secondary, two primary) and one Ubiquiti install. I love the Ruckus gear. It is excellent, however it is also pricey when it is compared to ubiquiti (plus ongoing support costs). I have been playing again this morning with the ubiquiti controller software. It is really straight forward and just works. A fantastic solution for a primary I would suggest. Ruckus is too, but takes a touch more setting up. We are probably looking at completing two more ubiquiti installs in the coming months. I would probably suggest you use some of your budget to pop extra network points all over the place (in the ceiling ideally) and buy ubiquiti. You'll need a pc to run the software on (and a lot of sockets in your racks for the injectors), but I bet you are looking at half the price of the solutions you've already looked at. If looking at Ruckus, speak with @CPLTD or @Net-Ctrl both excellent resellers to work with. We bought our box of three ubiquiti APs from an internet box shipper.

I was fairly impressed by the iris system. Easy to use website for teachers, fairly simple setup of the camera (although we'd probably have to attempt a wireless solution). Hefty price tag though and a subscription service rather than the Classwatch system which we have also looked at. I'm still wondering if we can't come up with an in house system.

Building on what @AngryTechnician is saying, the policies are practically there already... it's all about extra guidance that schools may wish to add. Creating policy or guidance that helps teachers do their job, rather than lose their job! The Guidance for safer working practice for Adults working with Children and Young People in Education settings states Adults should ensure all communications are transparent and open to scrutiny. So DMs are basically already outlawed! Even if SLT have the password for the account, a DM can be deleted by the sender or receiver. It wouldn't be hard to send an inappropriate message when you know the user is online, and then delete it five minutes later. Also the Teaching Standards which every teacher must comply to from September 2012 state A teacher is expected to demonstrate consistently high standards of personal and professional conduct. So teachers must understand that their personal social media accounts need to be professional too! Both really important documents explaining how a teacher can and cannot communicate. I've recently run some training on digital footprint of staff, I created a prezi which I'll give you a link to if it's something that interests you? My twitter is also full of links to guidance for teachers / school staff use of social media.

We've been using twitter a bit in school. Each department has an account (SCHOOLArt, SCHOOLEnglish etc.) some use it a bit, some not at all. Our policy basically says that school accounts must not follow pupils. Staff must not DM pupils, parents or staff. We encourage departments to use widgets in our moodle site. Helping transmit the messages without pupils thinking they need to sign up for twitter. We encourage staff to quote tweets and comment, rather than just retweet. I also remind people that if they follow a school account, people are only two clicks away from seeing their tweets. So if there were any tweets you wouldn't want the school, pupils, parents or media looking at, do not follow! The policy builds on our professional conduct policy.

The problem with Ruckus purchasing is the first person you approach for a quote, will give the best price. The resellers have to lodge the project with Ruckus, and they get preferential pricing. It's really annoying, because if you need three formal quotes, some companies don't want to waste their time writing up a quote they know you'll never go with (who can blame them!), and I don't really want to ask them! I've had emails from people in the last couple of days, sorry the school is already registered with another company, we won't be able to compete on pricing this time round... All that said, I love the kit! I've had good quotes from @Net-Ctrl, @CPLTD and as recently as yesterday evosys.co.uk
