Pray tell me why you would think that this is bullying, you would probably wrap them in cotton wool and give them everything they need to help them gain a better standing in life like benefits and state handouts at every corner. We as a country cannot sustain this at this level and we cannot create jobs which would not be financially viable, we cannot build our way out of a recession without a firm cornerstone with which to build, our economics is all wrong and this has been proven by throughout the world by this huge downturn in market forces buoyed up by borrowed money. This buy now pay later and the not wanting to learn culture has been growing constantly over the past 20 years, we as parents should be teaching good values but somehow a minority (which is growing exponentially every year) seem to slip through the net. We need to find something for them but they want large pay cheques for doing very little work which seems unfair to those kids who have worked hard through their school life and aspired to reach for better qualifications and positions within society. Yes not everybody can become a doctor or surgeon but there are jobs out there which our kids could fill if they put there minds to it instead of being given a way out every time by people who seem to have all the excuses under the sun as to why these kids don't achieve. If these kids lived in one of the third world countries they would have to work or die (Which is not a culture I would condone but this is a fact). What would you do Witch? easy to call people when they are being honest and having gone through the rigours of having to look after myself from the age of 14 then I would ask again what would you do?

If it was brought to my attention as I have stated then I would not hesitate to inform the proper authorities (Whistle-blow) whether it be huge corporations or benefit cheats of which so far no information has been brought to my attention. I was also trying to make the point that all responsible people as par for the course should morally be able to make that judgement and inform the proper authorities should they not.

Just as I have mentioned in my previous posts, we as a nation have become too soft with our young people and because of this each generation has become more and more needy, we as a country cannot carry on like this and we also cannot make excuses for those that are not willing to co-operate, those students not prepared to aspire both academically or vocationally would be conscripted and they would not have a choice in the matter and if they think they would be able to buck the armed service discipline and refuse to co-operate would not find a compassionate person with whom they could turn to to find them an excuse not to do what is required of them. Not only would they learn discipline but comradeship and communication plus other life skills which quite a lot of our young people lack today. I blame parents for giving them too much and young people becoming ever more reliant on handouts from parents who feel that they are doing the right thing but in actual fact they are slowly denying their offspring the capacity to fend for themselves and so they will not learn from there experiences and therefore will not put anything back in to society. "Spare the rod and spoil the child" an apt saying but I don't mean literally but we as parents must take on some of the responsibility for some of the characteristics of our youth. I admire most of our young people very much and deal with them every day in school but you can see those students who's parents don't give them the start in life they need.

As I have not mentioned in my post earlier, the reason for the government having to apply this stop til your 18 years old legislation is that other third world countries are upstaging us on the education front at every turn and thus we are finding it very hard to compete in a world market. Yes we need plumbers, electricians etc but what happens is that they still need to have qualifications and be able to follow Health and safety regulations etc so what happens to those students who just want to turn up and not do anything to gain these? Plus we as a country are always moaning about other foreigners pinching our jobs, yes they will and they will keep on doing it while they have better skills and qualifications and charge less for the job they do, how many times I have been quoted astronomical prices for work to be undertaken when along comes another company who's workforce are better educated and qualified and charge me less, I say to all students and people out there who think that they can sit on their backsides once they have gained employment to think again, this world has changed and will keep on changing and those who are not prepared to change with it will fall by the wayside as is already the case. We are way too soft on those people not willing to apply themselves and aspire to look after themselves but wait to receive handouts like their parents did and before anyone turns to me and states that there has to be a safety net for those people genuinely out of work then I say yes but how many are genuine cases. People who are self employed but are not declaring what they earn and then drawing on the state benefits these people are just like those huge corporations who avoid taxes they are the scum of the earth and if I come across any knowledge of either then I will not hesitate to inform the authorities. Everyone should do this to get the message across to those people who feel they can cheat the system. Sorry for the rant but this is something I am really passionate about.

@arrows78: We had the same problem here its a glitch within the software so the workaround is to grant those students who use the program unlimited disk space. Its the only way we have found that will deal with this problem.

@bollo318: I have pushed out a package which deletes the MS Office Document Image writer from the scenario which seems to work here most of the time, Its quite quirky sometimes especially with Microsoft publisher which sometimes doesn't even pick up the default printer, the program has to be pointed at the printer from the file print, then the printer chosen from the dropdown box then and only then will it print. This doesn't happen all the time but feel it is a Microsoft windows 7 and RM problem with the latter not being able to create a fix as their communications with Microsoft is not that good. This only happens intermittently across site but in general works around 98% of the time. Try getting rid of the MS Office Document Image writer first and then see how it goes.

I agree in principal with those students that have a basic understanding of literacy and numeracy leaving school but not at 14 maybe 16 and then only if they have an apprenticeship or something similar to enter into otherwise it should be conscription into the armed forces for at least 2 years (National service) as other countries have to keep youth off the streets and out of bad behaviour. We in this country have let standards slide and made too many excuses for those students who's parents have given up responsibility for them, this in turn leads to a disgruntled youth who basically has no aspirations and they are just left to meander through life without a purpose until the bad element of life gets a grip and takes over their life. Where does all this lead, prison for most or even face down in the gutter dead.......................Everyday this culture is getting worse and we as responsible adults must take responsibility for our youth not just blame the government..............it is a parental thing and the sooner people are made to understand this the better. We need to start taking those parents who shirk responsibility to task and make them sit up and take notice by educating and in some hardened cases taking legal action. We are too soft on those people who flout the law and constantly make excuses for those illiterate and basically ignorant people in our society, ignorance is not bliss it is an excuse for being lazy and not giving a damn about nobody else but themselves, time to wake up and smell the coffee

@Chris_: I set the OS as it states and this would be windows 7 also increased the memory to 2Gb and increased the CPU to 2, network settings as bridged which should pick up the host machines network card and Set the IDE controller in the storage settings to point to our default RM build iso and Bob's your uncle.

Have a look here for your drivers You will require the dos drivers for the initial build and then the 32bit drivers which will be imported into the build area on the server for creating your USB build pen don't forget It looks like an onboard chipset so you might have to go to the motherboard manufacturer and download the appropriate drivers from there.

Just download the appropriate drivers from the realtek site and import the drivers into your build simple We found the realtek nics not as good as the intel 1000 pro desktop but worked all the same. You don't need to buy RM machines to work on an RM network its all down to the motherboard and nic and you don't need to smartbuild just build from scratch once you have imported the appropriate drivers into your build. PM me for any help with this on CC3 as we ran one for 8 years we now on CC4 and its even better.

Paused printer overrides all the rest, so highlight all the documents and pause then unpause the printer, then highlight the document you require and hit the resume, that should be it.

@LeMarchand: If it is IT related in our school then it is up to my team to sort and this includes ordering the part or component, this is good practise especially if you can pre-determine when the failure of the device is imminent. It makes for a wow factor when you have a preventative maintenance schedule which fixes things before it breaks (in their eyes at least) obviously when certain checklists are in place you can pre-determine when i.e. a bulb in a projector is about to fail and therefore change it before it actually happens, the teacher knows nothing about this and therefore it seems like magic when the projector just works every time they put it on. These little things can make for a happy interaction with the staff as all they want is for equipment to just work, rather than fire fight and have the staff moaning all the time we incorporated a preventative maintenance schedule years ago and reap the benefit now. We are just another service to them and therefore nothing special as they don't even contemplate trying to understand what we do to make their daily life that much more amenable. We gauge our level of competency and how the network is working by the transparency of our work, the more transparent the better, this is reflected in the number of help-desk requests which on average at the moment is around 8 per day. In summary, it is our job to look after everything IT related and the teachers just need to be able to teach not have to fill out forms, I'm sorry if this upsets some people on here but this is the fact of the matter we are responsible.

Smoothwall box is our own firewall or as you would probably call it a Proxy server. As you have stated your part of a forest which is centralised vis your LA then it is these guys you need to speak to as they obviously have something wrong upstream as the time sync will come from the master controller of the forest which will sync with the outside world and then all the domains should automatically sync from this. Get in touch with other schools which are part of the LA forest and see if they are having the same problems, if not then it could be your DC which is not syncing properly which will need to be looked at. The Windows Time service uses the computer’s Kerberos session key to create authenticated signatures on NTP packets that are sent across the network. NTP packets are not transmitted inside the Net Logon secure channel. Instead, when a computer requests the time from a domain controller in the domain hierarchy, the Windows Time service requires that the time be authenticated. The domain controller then returns the required information in the form of a 64-bit value that has been authenticated with the session key from the Net Logon service. If the returned NTP packet is not signed with the computer’s session key or is signed incorrectly, the time is rejected. All such authentication failures are logged in the Event Log. In this way, the Windows Time service provides security for NTP data in an AD DS forest. Generally, Windows time clients automatically obtain accurate time for synchronization from domain controllers in the same domain. In a forest, the domain controllers of a child domain synchronize time with domain controllers in their parent domains. When a time server returns an authenticated NTP packet to a client that requests the time, the packet is signed by means of a Kerberos session key defined by an interdomain trust account. The interdomain trust account is created when a new AD DS domain joins a forest, and the Net Logon service manages the session key. In this way, the domain controller that is configured as reliable in the forest root domain becomes the authenticated time source for all of the domain controllers in both the parent and child domains, and indirectly for all computers located in the domain tree. The Windows Time service can be configured to work between forests, but it is important to note that this configuration is not secure. For example, an NTP server might be available in a different forest. However, because that computer is in a different forest, there is no Kerberos session key with which to sign and authenticate NTP packets. To obtain accurate time synchronization from a computer in a different forest, the client needs network access to that computer and the time service must be configured to use a specific time source located in the other forest. If a client is manually configured to access time from an NTP server outside of its own domain hierarchy, the NTP packets sent between the client and the time server are not authenticated, and therefore are not secure. Even with the implementation of forest trusts, the Windows Time service is not secure across forests. Although the Net Logon secure channel is the authentication mechanism for the Windows Time service, authentication across forests is not supported. Good luck with the LA

@Mr.Ben: Are your users restricted to a single login at one time on the domain? If not this could be a problem when they are logged into more than one workstation, this can cause a corruption of the profile on write back to the server also if you have disk quotas set and they have run out of allocated space this too can corrupt the write back of the profile to the server. Its one of those things which if you keep an eye on quotas and restrict logins should keep it to a minimum. Happy trails

I have had an IPad 2 for around a month now and it shares a bed in my bag with a Toshiba laptop (about 4 years old now) and when I first got up and running with the IPad I was impressed by the speed in which the objects were accessed. After a week it too became apparent that it was going to be a pain when doing the normal everyday things that I am expected to do. Conclusion: Horses for courses and yes the IPad 2 is a great personalised digital device which when used for social networking and web browsing is great and intuitive but when trying to create documents and reports and just filling in online forms then the laptop beats it hands down in my opinion. After a month i have to say the laptop is used far more than the IPad2 but this is just in my domain as I understand people may use it differently to me.

@ittech: Wish it was as easy as that, the problem is that your school like most schools do not pay VAT and herein lies the problem as you could expect. What you would have to do is practically give them away as they are no use to your school but may be useful to another. This school could then make what is called a donation to your schools fund through whatever means as this would be a charitable cause and not deemed VAT payable. Unless your school does pay the VAT then all is well if you get prior permission from the LA and your HT in writing to go down the E-Bay road.
