@jmr: Why does it have to have a long throw lense? Can you not get the projector mounted closer to the screen? If so then you might want to think about this:Casio XJ-H1600 3500 ANSI Lumens XGA Projector - www.misco.co.uk We are looking at changing our setup at the moment in our Hall as we have a long throw lens on a Hitachi which 6 years ago cost us £2500 but looking to go with either a short throw projector or as above to save on bulbs and cleaning filters etc etc. (less maintenance)

@pcstru: I have duly noted the sarcastic tone and would just like to state for the record that what you have said about this government is totally true and of past governments also, I already know and have given my views on this which for the record is the same stance as yours except I am not being sarcastic about agreeing with you. The thread was about a person, who clearly stated on TV that he had not worked a day in his life, bleating that he couldn't manage on benefits of £500 per week when there are lots of people I know who work hard for much less than that figure. I was just commenting on this and this alone.

We are in the process of trialling them along with kindle's for reading clubs, I feel that it is not the device but the management of the lessons behind them. The students will become bored very quickly if the lessons are not stimulating enough and that is without the use of mobile devices, so teachers who are advocating the use of them have to produce lesson plans that appeal to the students before the school will entertain purchasing them. Like a tradesman with his/her tools if they don't know how to use them properly then the job that they do will always end up a disaster and this is the same with mobile devices. As I say we are only trialling them at the moment.

Been using RM's built in print quotas for years now and has taken our printing budget from approx 18k down to 3.5k, the only thing I would advocate as others have stated is to go to SLT with your strategy to reduce printer costs without reducing efficiency. I did this by also implementing remote desktops for staff and @webman developed a small web application for called teacher viewer which allows the staff to see students work and mark it (even from home) without the student having to print it off at given times of the year for the teacher to take home and mark.

New legislation has to be brought in to stop people using children to enhance financial gain, it should be like this: 1st child receives child allowance 2nd child receives half the child allowance 3rd child and any other child thereafter is taxed off the child allowance from the first 2 How many would have large families then once the carrot had been taken away? Also to stem the teenage pregnancies by at least 80%: Stop giving them paid for accommodation and benefits (give them vouchers to spend in certain shops) and their parents or immediate families look after them (How many young women would then have the child in the first place or even become pregnant) Those other 20% who end up getting pregnant would have to name the father and he should be either jailed if he cannot afford to pay or made to work to pay doing whatever low grade job that no one else would do. (How many young men would then not take precautions) Draconian measures instead of throwing money at them would have results guaranteed!! An American congressman likened the work-shy takers to wild animals in a speech to the senate saying that if you them free food then what is the first thing that they will do? the answer he stated was this "They will breed" he said, now how true this is (the wild animals part) I don't know but I do know that some people in this country see having a large family as a free meal ticket for life and then complain about it not being enough!. Well I say as a hard working taxpayer "Enough! is Enough!" its time to get tough with people who think and act this way. I empathise with those people who are in genuine need of help but it seems that most of these don't get what they deserve as the fraudsters take the lions share of the benefits and more if they can get it, then work on the fiddle to gain more unbelievable but true. I voted for this government because they promised to get tough on these scrounging fraudsters (I await the outcome of the latest round of benefit changes) my next vote and I fear lots more taxpayer votes will hinge on how this government deals with benefit fraud. @kazit: We using Moodle which has just been upgraded to latest version and we are working with a company called WebAnyWhere who have developed the integration with Sims MIS and we are in the process of SSO and parental access plus homework reporting to parents. We hope to push out to parents in February after we hopefully convert to Academy. I have actually seen a variety of VLE's the most recent was Frog and while it looks very swish I have been told on a few occasions by IT teams that it is flawed and it's functionality leaves a lot to be desired. As for SLG we have in this county a learning gateway pushed out by the LA called DLG which is just sharepoint with one or two plugins to make it look like a VLE. It spends many days at a time being upgraded and sometimes can be down for whole weeks so to us this is not good enough and therefore we have taken the in house method through Moodle and it is up 24/7/365. Fronter is hosted in Sweden and the costs for more space is astronomical plus it is very clunky to configure and use. As for the others you mention I have not had the experience of using or seeing them so can make no comments. Hope this has helped Good luck with your research and eventual choice.

Its all relevent: Scenario 1: External services, requirements: Good internet access Good level of IT competency by the staff Good understanding by the SLT about the SLA agreements and the KPIs that go with it. Understanding that the personal touch will be lacking within the school. Everything to be done through an external helpdesk which may be hosted in another country. Cost factor which will be governed by the SLA level agreement. Scenario 2: InHouse Services: Requirements: Good staff with expertise The cost of each service: External: Dependant on the levels of service required by the school but could be as much as £150k per annum for a medium sized school of 1000 endusers. This will not include a refresh of equipment this comes as an extra which could take the SLA up to £250k per annum. Its seasick Steve in drag hehe! Its all the way the guitar is tuned, differently to the normal tuning and so sounds really good when you just play the strings open, doesn't require too much knowledge to play a half decent tune. @Stuart_C: If you have data already on the second virtual disk you will have to destroy the data as new disks have to be initialised. As you have stated though this should not be a problem as you have backups. Just turn the server off and put in the disks and then on boot up follow this tutorial:DELL Tutorial: Create RAID Using PERC 6/i Integrated BIOS Configuration Utility Once setup restore your data from backups and voila! easy!
