Pleased we had a member of the SLT with some common sense who decided after our trial of these overpriced paper weights not to purchase for staff, saved a fortune and never looked back. They are only for personal use and unless they are a whole school deployment for both staff and students then they require to much money and time to adopt. I like them purely as a personal device I actually have one at home but unfortunately it hardly ever gets used due to the requirements of my family who all have android phones and use these for all their needs except when drafting a document which they then use the family laptop.

@adhutton Only had 20 machines to deploy Inventor 2015 to, installed license server and software share deployed manually as I haven't got round to creating an install package yet but it is a one click installation. Works well but as has been stated hungry for resources (Ours are 4GB dual core's) and the file sizes are astronomical so be prepared!! Good luck

When the laptop for teachers scheme died around 7 years ago we decided then that staff would have to purchase their own if they wanted to use it in school as a standalone, funny how many requests we have to allow them access to our wireless network hehe! Very few buy anything that they cannot get for free from the school so our BOYD has very few devices attached hehe! Best thing we ever did, saved the school shed loads of money and as the staff have remote access to Sims and their work areas with application use also they don't require them. I am happy

Does the software create any reg keys with Invigilator workstation details that we could put out to the different machines in each individual room if you get my drift?

Admin server software installed and communicating with Pearson the administrator dashboard installed on the Exam officers workstation picking up the admin server, invigilator software installed on the teacher workstations of those rooms designated all working. All that is left is the clients, how has everyone else dealt with the client side as the software requires the invigilator workstation details when installed? I have been given 2 weeks notice of exams pending so really need to get moving with this any help would be appreciated

WE only allow downloads from free sites all the rest are blocked, any copyrighted MP3s are deleted without warning and SLT are aware of this and are wholeheartedly behind this, I do believe the Teachers feel that the students will be better engaged with music that they like but unfortunately it is copyright and that is illegal. The remit for the exams is that they are able to embed a sound file not a whole top ten hit! the same with video, we have stated that trying to embed a HD video of around 1.2GB is just not done as it will eventually corrupt the file it is embedded in, again the remit is to show the video clip embedded and this should only be bare minimum clip of a few meg. They have got the message this time after the hammer has been wielded!!

I used to work with a guy who believed spending good money on a car was a worthless waste, he used to buy a secondhand car for around £500 which had a full years tax and MOT on and then just run it into the ground, he would then purchase another and so forth, you will be amazed at what car you can get for £500 and that to me is very cheap motoring. Far cheaper than leasing as you won't get anything decent for less than £150 per month which equates to £1800 per year, a real no brainer if ever there was. You pays your money and you takes your choice!!

I know this sounds daft but is this the "Promissor" software which was used for ICT years ago or a different software altogether? Excuse my ignorance but I have just been informed that our PE department want to use it as their online exams base, I suppose I will have to install all over again to get the latest release hehe! From reading this thread it looks like it's still as bad as ever then?

@skell Its not a case of "Muddling through" explain to SLT it is not your remit and you haven't been trained in the use of the Sims applications, you just maintain the infrastructure server which the software runs on. Do you have a support SLA? If not then I would recommend you get one either through your LEA or Capita whichever is the better service, if your an Academy then it will be the latter. You cannot be expected to do something you have no idea about nor had the training for, it would be like telling a member of the teaching staff to do the HT job. Seek advice from your union if you are a member.

@steven_layton_sl We had a similar problem, we were lucky in that we only have 1 suite of 14 computers which we have Adobe products installed. We found this worked but had to run manually Adobe - Adobe Licensing Repair Tool Hope this works for you

@AJWhite1970 Manually installed by technicians after removing Kaspersky using the removal tool, long job over 2 weeks but worth it in the end, I made a mistake when reporting about the BCC event id 1 yesterday, it is down to the Avast and the team are working on this, its nothing to worry about as it is the synchronizing agent which the Avast agent uses to communicate. I will be speaking with one of the engineers after school hols next week so may have an update, I have heard that they working on delivering an MSI so we can mass deploy, I was going to use PDQ deploy but just gave the technicians the task and so far they have made a very good job of it. Labour intensive I know but we had to make sure the Kaspersky was taken off entirely as it doesn't allow another AV to install fully unless. Will keep posting if I come up with something in the meantime

@AJWhite1970 I do have a destination exception in Smoothwall, IP address 5.45.58.139 as for the other URLs I do have: business.avast.com I also have a policy which doesn't decrypt and inspect https and I have added all those addresses plus the one I have mentioned to it. Hope this helps

@spr @AJWhite1970 @tj2419 No Event 1s here and the BCC errors are linked to your DC time not Avast, I have the BCC warnings but I sync my time through the Atomic clock app on our DC and this is why. Must be a connectivity issue from your clients to Avast update servers, I have had to put the URLs of Avast into a policy which does not inspect and decrypt HTTPS from avast.com plus a couple of others. No problems so far (Fingers crossed)

@AJWhite1970 We currently 100% servers and 98% clients sorted and its working very well, had to make a few exclusions to our workstation template for one of our 3D software packages as 2 of its components register as "Malware" hehe! Apart from that all is running pretty smoothly and as you have stated finding my way around the interface and what can and can't be done, loving it though as its for free!!! Hats off to Avast for this, really appreciated, excellent project and I hope it remains free!

@MattDLEA Yes no problem as long as you don't have both on at the same time you should be fine, make sure you use the ESET removal tool as just uninstalling doesn't get rid of all of it as Kaspersky didn't for us. Have fun
