I wish we had a Costa's on site. Our new dining room has a cafe which sells OKish coffee, but I still walk 5 mins up the road to Caffe Nero. I walk past Costa to get there, as I prefer Nero to Costa. Better looking baristas in Nero's too! Triple shot latte is my choice. Over Christmas it was gingerbread latte - yum!

We have three separate help desks, all running on hesk. One is for IT, one for the Estates team (maintenance guys in normal speak) and the third for the Art Technicians. It works well and only rarely do tickets get logged on the wrong desk. Following on from the rule "if it's got a plug, IT support it", if in doubt log your problem on the IT help desk and they will direct you to the correct desk. We've just had a ticket logged to set out chairs in a room for a meeting. We also have an accident reporting system, which I wrote as we couldn't get hesk to do what we wanted for accident reporting.

George the Huntsman lived in Dad's shed for years. Hairy and about the size of your hand. Quite friendly really; he liked to hang around the light switch waiting for a pat. Huntsmen don't spin webs, although there were plenty of other spiders in the shed which did. The ones to really watch out for in Australia are Red Backs, which can kill you if they bite. I remember watching Deadly 60 when the host was in Adelaide (where I'm from) and letting Red Backs run over his hand. I thought "What an idiot", but perhaps they had the anti-venom on hand. Here in Blighty, spider bites might make you a bit ill, but in general they aren't any worse than a bee sting. I follow the rules that I was taught while growing up - leave them alone and they will leave you alone. I don't chuck the spiders out when I see them. They like to come in out of the rain, and who am I to turn them out into the storm. They really aren't any trouble.

I've had 10 days off and I seem to have forgotten everything that I knew about computers. This morning, I could remember my password but not my user id, and there was nobody in the office who could look it up for me. I've only been here three years. When I eventually logged on, I updated my holiday sheet and emailed it to the boss. I managed to update it fine, but I sent him the wrong file three times (my appraisal, last years holiday sheet, and then the sample sheet). I'm not even sure that this will appear on edugeek! I hope this isn't a portent of the new year. I think I'll gave another cuppa and a ginger nut.
