netstat -ano | find ":80" | find /i "listen" will show you what is listening on port 80. The last column is the process id, which you can find in taskmanager to see what service it is. AFAIK there should be 2 lines displayed by the command for 1 website.

The IIS message means you have two sites trying to use port 80. This might help Event ID 1007 — IIS Web Site Availability I suspect teh MySQL error is a red herring.

We ran the Linux Terminal Server Project on the student desktops at the first school I was at. We used Fedora. The kids always said it was carp, but since they only needed an office suite and web browser, it did the job perfectly. With PAM authentication and NFS, everything just worked as it should, and gave us no problems at all, unlike the M$ systems which the office staff used for CMIS and M$ Office. (To be fair, CMIS was the main culprit here.) Staff laptops were a pain too, needing to be reimaged about every fortnight; staff would take them home and their kids would bugger them up.

It has been my experience that Windows Event logs never show anything useful. What is the MySQL error that you are seeing?

This is a scan of a book, which I had until some lowlife stole it. The used to be a website which catalogued all of the ACME products featured in the Loony Tunes but sadly it died some years ago. This is the closest site that I know of that is similar is The Illustrated Catalog of ACME Products which I think has links to the old dead site.

AFAIK there are two IIS logs, both of which are pretty useless IMO. The first to look at is inetpub\logs\LogFiles\W3SVC1 and check the latest file. AFAIK these are the equivalent to the Apache access.log file. The IIS error log is usually in c$\Windows\System32\LogFiles\HTTPERR and AFAIK are the equivalent of the Apache error.log file, except almost nothing of any use is logged here. When I'm trying to troubleshoot a problem with a website served by IIS, I invariably install Apache on the box, leaving the website files as is. Apache logs way more meaningful messages in the error.log file and once you've sorted out what is wrong, you can always go back to IIS.

Setting up 2 classroom sets of new PCs, with monitors mounted under flip top desks (or they will be if the monitors arrive), short keyboards (just has alpha and F1-F12) and normal mice (I couldn't convince them to go trackball - I use them and I can't understand anybody who doesn't!). Moving out 2 classroom sets of old PCs to vacate our rented space. I guess we'll redeploy these eventually as they aren't bad machines.

With an automatic, it's not an issue. I find driving a chore and with an automatic, it is one less thing to do. I eagerly await the self driving car, so I can sit in the back and be delivered to were I want to do. I could, of course, achieve this at the mo with a chauffeur, except I can't afford one.

In 15 years time, XP and IE6 will still be causing us problems, with teachers still wanting to use their pet bit of software, which only works on the aforementioned combination.
