IMO D is a really bad idea. I've worked in places where this had been implemented and leads to hostility amongst users, who will make your life hell, unless you allow for example Password1, followed by Password2, Password3, etc. Also, 42 days is probably too soon. We have ours set to 100 days. Our policy is : 8 chars or more can't contain your name or user id at least one character from 3 of the 4 categories - upper case, lower case, number, symbol 3 unique passwords 100 days expiry lockout after 3 tries

In 1999 I was working in facilities management, running AIX and HP-UX machines. Just like elsiegee and fiza we were madly patching o/s's to handle the millennium bug. The beeper was a PIA; one of the clients (a major retailer) wouldn't allow us to change the crappy backup software on their machine and if you were on call that week, you knew you were going to be paged. I eventually forced the issue though. I went on holiday for three weeks and when I came back I discovered there hadn't been a successful backup for 16 days. There was a two week tape cycle, so every tape was corrupt. The newest backup available was about 6 months old. I was also "celebrating" 20 years in IT.

It is well known that if you have a .pages file from a Mac and you try to view it on a non-Mac box, that the best you can do is open the file with a zip program and extract the preview.pdf file to see the first page of the document. What happens if you want to view the whole document and, like us, when you upload it to a Mac it says you need a newer version of Pages and even when you upgrade Pages, it still says that you need a newer version? In this case we have Mavericks and the file was created on Yosemite and it seems as though the two versions of Pages are incompatible. (Have Apple been to the Microsoft school of software development?) Upload the file to Google Docs and when it tries to open said file, it will complain that it can't open the file and point you at CloudConvert. Use CloudConvert to convert the file to .pdf and let it load it back to your Google Docs. Problem solved - you can download the pdf and see the entire document. The student whose work was due today, and decided to submit it using pages, owes me several beers (probably ginger nuts as the pub on the corner won't let the student in).
