We have an online staff directory, which is a list of names. If you click on a name, it shows a big picture of them and gives contact details (phone, email address, etc). We also have a page which lists every staff member, grouped by faculty or role. Even the cleaners are on it. This list includes a really small picture at the end each line in the table. Strangely, on my PC one of the pictures doesn't display, but the html source shows it is in the table. Fortunately I know who she is and what she looks like.

I did this course a few weeks ago and we where given some sample policies on paper, which proved useful in formulating our policy. Sadly I can't post it yet as it hasn't be ratified. Social Media | MustardTraining

The bits for my rebuild finally arrived and I spent the weekend getting my PC back on the air. It's all running nicely. I just need to finishing installing all of the software that I use. The dead box was running Mandriva with IceWM. The rebuild has seen a move to openSuse with XFCE. I couldn't get X to stay up with Mageia - it would run, display the desktop and promptly exit. Duuno why and I don't care! It's nice to be able to get to the web on screen bigger than the netbook.

The floppy drive on the C64 had part number 1541. The instruction manual contained an instruction not to insert or remove a disk when the green light was on. The green light was the power indicator; it should have said red light, which was the activity indicator. Are there still people sitting in front of their 1541, floppy in hand, waiting for the green light to go out? The Commodore Datasette (1530) was used on the PET, C64 and the VIC20. The most interesting thing that I know about them is that each data block was recorded twice. When the tape was read, the blocks read had their check sums calculated, and if they matched, a byte by byte comparison was performed and if these matched, they block was passed. I hacked mine so each block was only written once; this gave me blistering fast data transfer - twice as fast as everyone else!

So I fired up my box last night and I'd just logged on and there was a lightning flash very close to the house. It looks as though the EMF has taken out my motherboard. The screen went black and it wouldn't switch off via the front panel. Pulled the plug and put it back in and it won't switch on. I'm thinking of this m/b https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/Z97P/ with an i5 processor and 8GB RAM. Should handle Linux nicely. The dead box has https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P5QL_PRO/, Pentium Dual Core processor and 2GB RAM, so it's quite a step up.

Those clever people at EFF have released Privacy Badger, a plugin for Firefox and Chrome. 512MB - that's a big one! When the company that I worked for first installed XT's, they where 10MB drives and we were supporting three concurrent users. On the AT's with the ginormous 30MB drive, we could run 10 concurrent users. This was when the Pick Operating System ran natively. I wish I could remember the manufacturer of the serial port expansion cards we ran. We were at a trade show once, showing off our package for builders. Back in the 1980s there was a lot of interest in controlling projects using activity networks and Gantt charts. On the stand next to us were a company showing off their DOS based package. On the standard 128KB PC they said they could handle 100 activities and if you had the super 640KB machine, 800 activities. They asked how many we could handle. I replied 25,000 and the look on their faces was priceless! Actually there is no theoretical limit. It didn't matter how much memory was in the box, our limit was based on the maximum file size the o/s could handle.

IMO, one of the three desktop verions of Windows that was acutally useful. 3.1, 95 and XP (with sp 2). I had a really robust 95 install. I would arrive in the morning, switch the box on, go and make a cuppa and when I came back it had woken up and logged into everything. At the end of the day, I'd switch it off at the wall (no shutdown) and it never gave me any grief. The next place I worked also had 95 but I had to leave my PC on all the time. If I shut it down, chances are it wouldn't come back and needed a reinstall. I never did find out why.

I fully concur. With each successive film they are getting further away from the original series. IMO it's time to drop the MI title and go for Ethan Hunt: Poor man's James Bond.
