We get the kids to put their phones in the classroom safe in the morning and collect them at the end of school. They seem ok with this.

The father of an ex-pupil does most of our car servicing and gets the MOT done at a local garage. It works well, we leave the keys at the office, he collects and returns the car, which is brilliant for the teaching staff. Anyway, my car was returned with a new MOT certificate plus the service documents. I've just noticed that it failed the first time because the satnav holder was attached to the windscreen. I mount it right down in the right hand corner. So, presumably they failed the MOT, took the holder off and then passed it.

I blame the parents!

We always use to use Viglen but after a heap of trouble with batch faults on HDDs and PSUs we moved away. That said, the Viglen rep is coming to see me next week.

We bought HP 6900s 3 years ago and they have been very reliable. The biggest problem is the height adjusting screen pulls the power lead out of the socket, which is beyond most of our ICT teachers to fix. Constantly reconnecting the lead is causing the monitor sockets to wear. I've not had to change any yet but it's not far off that time.

+1 for T-Cut and a bit of elbow-grease. Then a good wax polish. You can get colour coded rubbing compound that help mask the scratch That's the idea isn't it. The wax polish will smooth out any fine lines left by the T-Cut.

What sort of area do you need to cover. If it's less than 800m and not too many buildings, then back to back, licence-free, PMR466 will probably do PMR446 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. I'd be inclined to go for some cheap Cobra radios or similar and if they do what you want, then look at more robust ICOM or Kenwood. Our dinner ladies use Cobras and they are fine but already a couple have broken displays. At our Sailing Centre, we use ICOM and they are far better in the conditions.If you don't get the coverage, you may need a base station, which will require a licence and a will cost a lot more money.

I bought a Chinese one online and the instructions are vague, to say the least. "Press the setup button continually, then press power on button. To release them when the light is on. I assume this just cycles through every known code until it hits the right one. How long should I expect this to take? I gave up after a couple of minutes. I've tried several projectors.

Great idea but it wouldn't work here. Someone would take out a set of keys and try connecting their laptop and then raise a ticket because they can't log on. Oh, and they'd manage to lose the keys they unplugged!

Similar faults on laptop screens can be down to ribbon cables. Might be worth having a prod around.
