If you want to replace your domain controller, you'll need something onsite to issue IP addresses. You'll need a way of setting up a connection to the server in the cloud - I believe most people set up a VPN. Is that true even if you have Office 365 Pro plus licensed through OVS? Seems mad that you can install the full version on high performance massive screened desktop devices, but not mobile ones. I presume the reason that you never hear of people being audited for M$ licencing is that it's so complicated that 1) no one in Microsoft understand what you're actually supposed to have and 2) it'd never stand up in court because you could say your tried your best and there's no way that any normal person could be expected to understand it

The only major British telecoms exchange equipment manufacturer - Marconi Corporation - went bust more or less overnight when BT announced they were going to roll out BroadBand using Huawei kit. The remains were sold to Ericsson - who it would appear were behind today's problems at O2.... The Office 365 solutions include options to either restrict download to specific devices (Conditional Access) or create encrypted containers on users' personal devices which can then be remotely wiped by the organisation without affecting the rest of the device (Windows Information Protection). It's quite clever and your opinion of how expensive it is will depend on how much you trust your staff/how likely you think you are to be fined.

They work best if you get fully into the Google environment, but are surprisingly effective in a mixed environment. We have one at home and with the MS Office Android apps, working on office documents from SharePoint is fine. I'm also finding that Google docs does a better job of opening office documents than they used to.

I'm still reading the documentation, but certainly looks like it'll work with MDT. I had some success with deploying applications through the task sequence (coming at it from a position of zero knowledge). However, I now just deploy Office with MDT/WDS and do the rest with group policy. I've ditched everything that I can't find an MSI for [emoji16] (I do appreciate that's not an option for everyone.) OSBuild does look like it has the capability to deploy applications as well, but the documentation for that bit like incomplete.

Edit: From the same document, I learned that you if you want to fail over to a different host, you don't need to license it on both hosts as long as you only run the load on one server at a time.

One network sounds like a good plan, but I don't think many people would choose to reduce to a single physical server. Licensing really isn't expensive (use EES even if you don't use it for anything else) and it doesn't make any difference whether the VMs are on one server or split. Each standard licence allows you two "operating system environments" on a single box. This means that if you install it as a physical with multiple roles, you can also have a single VM or you can install it as a hypervisor and run two VMs. One more licence would allow you another 2 VMs. I last got quotes before the price changes, but a standard licence was around the £60 mark. Data centre was about three times the price, so unless you want more than six VMs on a box, stick with Standard licenses. Given the choice, personally I'd pick two refurb servers over a single new one, a separate broadband feed to each site and a resilient link between them. Apart from maintenance of the hypervisor (which should be minimal) there's no more work maintaining the VMs whether they're all on one box or split across several.

Using Azure AD connect, as we're using O365 as well. You can set up Active Directory Synchronisation/federation from Google admin.

Also it's specific to the machine. Windows Hello (including biometric) sign on works on a domain now, but the private key is only stored on the machine. Difficult in a shared environment...

A bit off topic; I'm in the same situation. I have two accounts and only use my domain admin where essential. I only find it a very minor inconvenience. I can operate RSAT as a different user and can remote into other machines with my domain admin account. It's very rare that I need to login to a client machine with a domain admin account account.

Another question rather than an answer: I also use Arthur's script, but once you've edited the wim, sysprep fails. Could I make customisations on a VM, then sysprep and then run the script? Or should I make the effort to learn more about Task Sequences?

This thread has cheered me up. (Or at least made me feel less victimised) We're 5 weeks 🤯 into a bathroom refit. I went with a local firm that was recommended by several colleagues. I could have done it myself by now and taking unpaid leave probably would have been cheaper... Even after waiting months for a date, I reckon we've had about 10 days work out of the 24 working days since they started. We're having one of these fitted - is it Aqualisa who are refusing to fix it? I'd heard good things about their customer service which is why we bought it... They have their own fitters.
