Searching "jmak wds" on here brought up lots of posts - apparently I've been struggling with this for 11 years on and off! But not the relevant one. I've been using MDT and WDS to deploy Windows 11 for over a year. I needed a bit of help getting it working - which obviously I found on here [emoji4] Since I got the first deployment working, I've just been able to load in updated ISOs for new versions.

If you re-image every year, then it might be worth deploying Windows 10, but next summer you'll have to re-image to Windows 11 anyway. I'm sure @thimon was making a tongue in cheek comment, but I certainly wouldn't be looking at changing how I deploy Windows 10 at this stage. Focus on preparing for Windows 11 - coming ready or not!

We might be able to combine @Scrambles' suggestion with that to achieve what we need.

Anydesk would do exactly what we want. Unfortunately the quote we got was £30k/year based on it estimate of 100 users needing the facility. I think I'll struggle to get budget authorisation for that.

We have Jamf Pro - early on in the adoption process here, although I've previously used it elsewhere, but didn't set it up from scratch. I'd agree about the quality of the product and we've had great support. The only caution I'd mention is that we were told by the result that the initial training was chargeable and mandatory. Jamf confirmed that wasn't the case. My query: if you have Jamf Pro, is Jamf Connect separate? And is it per device or per user?

Realistically it's beyond my level of knowledge, so I might have misunderstood something. I think the requirement is slightly different to remote desktop: the users need to remotely access the machine in another user's context, i.e. the account that the equipment is signed in with. A similar function to when you're giving remote support to someone.

We have some windows PCs which are essentially the control panel for machines. To run the machine, there is a local account and the control software runs in that user context. Users interact with it using TeamViewer or AnyDesk so that they are effectively remotely controlling the local account. I accept that this is how the machines work - but I don't accept that the solution is to just allow "unsupervised access" remotely. I'm looking for a solution which offers similar facilities, but we can lock it down so that you can only connect from a domain or Entra managed device and requires MFA. Any suggestions? TIA

Also, you can't have a secure network without buying secure hardware. And paying for software support to get security updates. And if you don't have a network that at least meets the basic security rules, you'll have a much more expensive problem at some point along the road. The machines Dave mentioned are the absolute cheapest you can get away with. I'm sure Dave won't argue when I say that even those have limited capability - after all, he sells much more powerful machines as well! I think most of us have been there, but as had been said above, a reliable, secure IT infrastructure does not come free.

So the licence isn't required because they're monitoring a private space? Does it matter that the are likely to be members of the public in that area?

We are going to be well over our total storage limit for the tenancy and we're looking for solutions (including paid). The problem with paying for additional storage on the tenancy is that it just gets added to the pool. That means that if a specific department has bought additional storage, we can't guarantee they'll get it. I have two main queries: 1) Can access to the data be indexed in the same way as SharePoint data? This has become an important part of the users' workflows. Supplementary to that, can it be set up to synchronise directories with client machines so that there is a local copy? This allows them to leave the data in shared locations and have visibility of all their data and to process data locally. 2) Do you have any experience of how much extra is spent on top of the data storage fees? The price for the "hot" tier looks interesting, especially the reserved for three years price, but we'd need an idea of what the extra charges would be for the operations. Retrieval is free (included), and I presume I calculate the write cost by the amount of data we want to move there which will mostly be a one of cost plus a fairly accurate estimate if how much data we create every year. What I can't get my head around is what charges were might incur for the other processes. Did anyone have any experience or a decent guide to create an estimate? Many thanks

The other side of it - and the purpose - is that all income from the ISA is tax exempt. That's why it's more attractive than a normal savings account. It says for developers and says you need to carry out qualifying work to maintain the free subscription. I do only use it for testing and never for production uses, but I don't do anything other than basic testing and it's auto renewed for them last two years.

Depending on the rules set up in your tenancy, when you create the link to share you can choose to share it with Just one person A group Anyone in your organisation Anyone with the link We have Anyone with the link turned off as the powers that be decided it was too high risk for data loss. Anyone in your organisation is quite a good compromise. I'm pretty sure you can set the default policy. Personally I'd prefer to keep the default as one person. To many people don't pay enough attention to what they're sharing. Train them how to change the setting and let moaning from management train them to choose the right option.

Possible, but unlikely as it's not intended to work like that. I think you would need to create an account with that email address and then give the users permissions to access the other "persons" account. But you'd also need a licence for that account and it's the wrong way to do it. The other way to do it would be to create a Team and share the files with that. You would then need to add the required people to the Team. Anyone in the Team would have access to the files.

For traditional GPO does that need to be applied to the group the client is in or can it just be applied once?

If you've bought iPads, the cost of Jamf is a rounding error. £6/iPad per year on a £350 device Other cheaper alternatives are available, but I've seen lots of money wasted and Jamf isn't on my list of bad purchases.

Has anyone ever used QNAP switches? I'm looking for a switch to support 25Gb SFP connections on an isolated network, so no advanced management or integration with other switches needed.
