We have multiple departments which have similar requirements for two machine builds, but obviously different users in each department. In reach department, I essentially need to have machine types 1) Individual user device 2) shared device But only users from that department should be able to login to machines in that department. Would you create a hierarchy of machine type and with department below or the other way around? Or is there a better way? Or does it make no difference? Many thanks

We use the method described *and* LAPS. I want our team to have accounts allowing them to login as local admin or elevate their account. That way we know who has --caused-- fixed the issue. We use the LAPS account as a break-glass with a 50 random character password that updates at regular intervals. It has occurred to me that it could be used to allow one off access as mentioned above for either a contractor or even a user (and then reset afterwards).

I ran Chromebooks in a Microsoft school and it worked seamlessly. It was about eight years ago, but from what I read, it's still a similar setup. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/entra/identity/saas-apps/google-apps-tutorial Set up as per the link, users will be provisioned with Google accounts with SSO. You can configure the default domain in the Google admin console, so users have the same login credentials for Windows and Chrome OS devices. SSO to O365 Web apps as well and for an added bonus, you get control over YouTube profiles and other Google services so that you could enable some for some users and offer different permissions.

Further to @rob-d's comment, look at multi tenancy organisations. They are a lot more useful than they were a couple of years ago. I think you might end up with the storage allowance per school and be able to provide full access to resources in all the tenancies.
