Looked at freshdesk yesterday, looks good but it relies on setting up message forwarding which we have disabled at domain level, so unfortunately it is a non starter for us.

Trying to get this setup and not getting very far (PHP and SQL aren't my forte). Just wondering if anyone can spare a minute to guide me through getting setup as the OSticket wiki is just not making any sense to me. So far I have: Created a new Server 2012 VM & installed updates. Installed IIS role, including .net 3.5 support. Downloaded the latest version of OSTicket. Copied the contents for the upload folder into \inetpub\wwwroot\helpdesk\ Not sure about installing MySQL (there is almost too much information out there) I think I need to install PHP (same as MySQL, not sure where to start) PHP manager for IIS but the only link I can find is this: https://archive.codeplex.com/?p=phpmanager absolutely no idea what to do with the archive. Really need to get this going soon as our Spiceworks has bricked so currently not running a helpdesk.

Hi @andy_d did you get any further with your issue? Not the exact same issue but we have recently discovered that users aren't always getting updates we send out. We have been adding ourselves as CC'd users and can see that the updates only go out at random intervals, the updates always stick in the ticket but the users don't always get the reply to their mailbox. Now considering binning Spiceworks as I have just done a fresh install today and nothing seems to be going out

I don't think FIFA are thinking anything of the sort, look at the prospect of them playing the next world cup during December / January in Qatar because (shock), its really hot there! FIFA will always do what is in their interests i.e. what will make them the most money. Of course the logical thing of just playing the games during the night during the summer doesn't fit with getting the European TV audience.

You may have to make some harsh decisions there; It doesn't look like you have left any time to actually move around. Don't forget if you are going from the 2nd stage to the 3rd it can be a good 15 minute walk if it is busy, even worse if you are going from the 4th to 3rd! I would have had a hard time on the Sunday with Less Than Jake, The Hives, Alexisonfire, Rise Against & Manson to pick from at overlapping times.

Thanks for the heads up on Decathlon, they're about half the price of others I was looking at for almost everything. Not sure about parkrun as with two little ones my time is hard pushed, I can get away with C25K because I can do it after putting them to bed, worth keeping in mind though I suppose.

Did my first week two run last night, I was surprised by the distance I covered (4.2k) including the warm up and cool down and finished just 200m away from my house. Looks like I will have to find a new route for week 3. I suppose I shouldn't have looked at the timings too far ahead and just concentrated on the current week. Currently in the dilemma of how seriously am I taking this before possibly spending money on clothing, I think a good set of socks are a must regardless.

I have decided with the arrival of baby foofighterjim #2 that I need to start keeping in shape a little better than I have in the last few years. Decided to give couch to 5k a go. I have only just finished week one but I am feeling so much better for it already. Made the mistake of going too fast at the beginning of the first run which made things uncomfortable for the rest of that run and some of the 2nd. I suspect that even following the program I may hit a bit of a mental wall at around week 4 but I am trying not to make that a self fulfilling prophecy, anyone have any pointers for when the running times increase and the recovery time really drops off? I know I will have to look at my diet at some point.

Managed to score a new cowling for my SV FOC last week. An apprentice at the garage backed the works van into my bike and cracked it by the headlight (all checked over and just cosmetic damage). The cost of a new part was more than the cost of my Service and MOT so a net gain on that one! Not to mention that the old cowling was all scratched from my one and only off some 10 years ago.

Good point, I have heard that Veeam is quite good at compressing the backups, I take it you only pay for storage used i.e. if you are running low you can delete some of the incrementals and free up space?

How about this idea; two Synology boxes one on site, the other at another school? We aren't in a MAT or anything so I don't know how we would stand on a legal basis, we would obviously have to ensure that nobody at the other school could gain access to the storage. Downside is that we would be fronting all the risk and would have to come to some sort of hosting agreement, possibly a reciprocal deal where we host their DR backup.

Just crunched some numbers on this and we would be looking at about £420pm meaning £5,040pa added onto the cost of Veeam so it works out at about £500 cheaper than Redstor in year 1 and about £1,500pa cheaper for subsequent years. Still a little on the expensive side for us but food for thought none the less.

Do you mind sharing who your online storage is with (PM if needed), I work that out to be about £600 for 10TB of storage. What type of backup do you have Veeam doing to the cloud (Reverse Incremental)? Like I said we are only interested for DR purposes so only the latest data needs to be there. We have two fireproof safes on site but we cant get any data or power into them. Is there such a thing as a fire proof safe or cab where this can be done?? Edit: Of course there isn't, fireproof = airtight derp , I think the cost of fireproofing a section of the school would dwarf the price of online storage.

Raising my old thread here; all but settled on what we are doing with the exception of backups. In an ideal world we would have onsite and online backups (online purely for DR only). I have had a look at products such as Redstor but the cost is much higher than what I can budget for as an on going cost (over £7.5K pa based on our data). I have had a look at Veeam too which increases in cost quite a lot once you add the online connector to the Backup Essentials package, then you have to factor in the cost of the online storage, suddenly this starts being around the same cost as Redstor. Our site is split across two physical buildings but they are quite close to each other, approximately 30 meters apart. I was considering Veeam with a Synology box in each building and replicating the data. My reservation is that as both buildings are in such proximity that there is a chance that if one building were to catch fire there is a chance (albeit small) of losing both Synology boxes and therefore all of our data. My final thought was to stick to the disk-2-disk-2-tape model, use Veeam Enterprise (I think Enterprise is needed for tape hardware support) and stick to tape backups being placed in the fire safe each day. This would involve paying for the Enterprise version of Veeam and then also paying for a tape loader and media. I don't have figures for this but I would expect it to be quite expensive. What are other peoples thoughts? Is there another way around this that I haven't explored yet?

To directly answer your question the users must have an InTune Licence, you can get a 30 day trial by going into the O365 Admin portal and adding as a subscription whilst you are testing. We are also stuck mid term on an OVS-ES agreement so are evaluating if we want to purchase InTune over the top. To my knowledge it isn't possible; with an on prem exchange you could use the Set-mailbox -RecipientLimits cmdlet. Unfortunately this cmdlet is not available for exchange online so you're stuck with the default limit of 500 recipients. I would take the approach that if Students are mass messaging then this is a pastoral issue, you may need to amend your AUP to make sure this type of behaviour is covered.

Ah, I'm with you now. Part of my problem is that I haven't done anything yet (except for a lot of reading). I'm still trying to figure out if Mailbox Policies, O365 MDM or InTune are the right way to go for us. I know InTune will do what we want, especially for keeping "corporate" data separate from personal even within the same app but £££.

@leegcvcc I agree but if they chose staff can sync email with any device as standard, I think preventing this and reverting back to OWA is a backwards step with how many people chose and expect to work these days. If there are reasonable measures to take to mitigate accidental data loss from syncing email then surely it must be explored.
