  1. Ubuntu
  2. Hmmm After all sorts of shenanigans I have managed to get Ubuntu installed on one of the N145 netbooks. Sadly, it runs like a dog - you could go and make a cup of tea in the time it takes to open anything. I'm a bit disappointed, I thought it would run OK.
  3. I don't think it is all wrong, musically, but it is very flat in places - I think that is what he meant
  4. UK Junior School...NO automatic allocation of funds for such things
  5. TBH the HT would do whatever I tell him. If I tell him they are no longer useable, he will be happy with that as he knows I know what I am talking about. As for workload, it isnt too bad although we are rapidly approaching the end of term so the newsletter and website will be a priority in the next couple of weeks I think I think I will tell him they aren't useable and then just see what I can do - no rush that way There won't be any training for users to use Windows 10. I presume SLT are presuming that people have Windows 10 at home and so can already use it. At least one person has no computer at home so presumably they don't knnow it - but hey, not really my problem, is it? We will have remote access in the next couple of weeks too - hopefully that goes smoothly otherwise i may be a lot busier than I am now!
  6. What's in this bundle? I have several Sherston Programs that might be of use
  7. I'll go with "calculated risk" I shall try the Linux route
  8. So - linux may be the way to go. Which one to choose though? Pros and cons of different distros? Any way of doing more than one at once - I have 45! They are pretty old - I want to say 8 years? but if I can get any use out of them I will. They have been being happily used to support children with difficulties who mostly use cloud based programs so if I could get them on the internet hopefully this useage could continue
  9. Hmm It would seem that maybe something Linux-y would be our only option. I know absolutely nothing about Linux so any help gratefully received. The HT would really like them as internet terminals so this would be a road we could take. I have around 45 of them
  10. We are updating to Windows 10 in the summer and I can't imagine that these beasts will be upgradeable - 1GB RAM, Atom processors etc Need advice on what to do with them (behave) as we have lots and it seems such a shame to dump them. They have all been happily - if slowly - on my network being used by children doing extra spellings or whatever. We have no money so a paid-for solution isnt going to work
  11. Godzilla Great in a B-Movie-Tastic sort of way
  12. Saw the Crusader indestructible (well, almost) headphones at EDIT and was favourably impressed. Have bought a set for the IT suite
  13. @Smee I have one grey pen with an orange band. I have what I think is a promethean psu. See attached pic. I presume it works - no idea where it came from but I am hoping that it was saved because it works but I can't be sure
  14. @CHiLL There are loads of great youtube videos out there but I watch https://www.fitnessblender.com/ You can choose what you want to do - and choose your trainer as some are Daniel, some Kelli, and some both. All videos are free unless you want to purchase a set they have put together which will cover all bases - you can choose strength, fitness, flexibility, whatever and they are $9.99 I think - yours for life once purchased, you can do them over and over again. I have three at the moment - one for doing three or so times a week alongside your other exercise routines, one that is only 30mins per workout, and one that is their signature "bored easily" format where exercises are not repeated (muscles are targeted more than once but with different exercises). I never thought I would have the discipline to follow something like this but I have been doing it for over a year and a half. I like Daniel and Kelli because whilst they are very fit, they arent all muscles and posing - they look like real people and they are so helpful and friendly
  15. Will have a look on monday
  16. @CHiLL No, there's loads of training-type videos - circuit training-type stuff - situps, crunches, knee lifts, squats, tricep dips, bicep curls - you name it. (you can use a tin as a weight to begin with), the lot. You just have to find a trainer that you like
  17. @CHiLL So - how about getting some weights and following someone on YouTube. It might at least get you started. I'm sure you could find something that would suit you and you won't feel as if you are making a twit of yourself. In fact, you can just start with resistance training, or something simple Yes, running, biking, swimming AND WALKING are very good but building up muscle instead of fat then you will burn even more calories.
  18. Stumbled upon a Timeless special - thank you SKY automatic recording. Love it
  19. Bodyrip do a good set of bar and weights. Doesnt take up too much room, but I do take your point about the gym. Currently working hard on form rather than weight. I cant bear to watch people in the gym "throwing" a weight upwards - using momentum, or shoulders, just to say "look what I can curl or deadlift" I want to shout "try and do it very slowly with proper form (eg elbows against sides, not coming forward, when bicep curling) and see how much weight you can lift then! I deadlift 20kg at the moment which is quite enough when I am trying to stop my shoulders collapsing or my back rounding!
