Hi, Could anyone advise me on the best way to have your wallpaper automatically resize depending on size of screen? I’m building a base image for our student labs, but I don’t want the user to be able to change the wallpaper. I’ve used GBinfo with WinXP in the past, but I’m sure it was adding to the login times, which I’d rather avoid. Thanks for your help, Rob

Hi, hope someone can help. Just started getting a problem when migrating XP user’s to Win7. Up until now the USMT task sequence has worked fine and I’ve used it to migrate several users. However, I’ve just started getting the error “Unable to find the SMS task sequence. The deployment will not proceed.” At the point where the TS should be restoring the userstate. The user’s data is captured and the OS is applied. The TS then logs into the Administrator profile ok but then gives me that error. BDD log has an entry saying: “ ” The LiteTouch.wsf is in the programs\start folder but even manually running it gives the same results. The MDT is online on and will work for deploying an image, and I can map to it with the failed client. As far as I’m aware nothing has changed in the MDT server so I’m baffled as to why it’s started doing this now. Google search has had a few people with the same error rebuild their deployment but I don’t want to go down that road unless necessary. Thanks for reading, Rob

[mdt] Problems with customsettings.ini file in MDT
Rob414 replied to Rob414's topic in O/S Deployment
HI, Yeah it's an option I'm considering if there's no other way to do it. Was going to setup a Virtual Image with MDT just for capturing and link it to the existing deployment share. Thanks, Rob -
HI, I’m having a bit of a problem with my customsettings.ini file in MDT and wondered if anyone has had the same issue and/or a solution. My settings file is working fine with task sequences for deploying images and USMT, however I have the lines: SkipCapture=YES DoCapture=NO As the general techs using the MDT won’t be creating images or using it to back up. However, if I want to at some point use the MDT to capture an image I have to enable the line to: SkipCapture=NO DoCapture=YES The problem is that this seems to be messing with any deployments that may be going on at the same time as me changing the customsettings.ini file, and having the lines always set to do a capture messes with the deployment. Is there a way of being able to change the customsettings.ini file whilst others are using the MDT or better settings for the file to have the capture always enabled? Shame there isn’t a customsettings.ini file for each task sequence. Thanks for reading. Hope someone can give me some pointers Rob

Thanks for reply Jamesfed, but not an option i'm afraid. I already get grief about log in times as it is and it's only 4mins! lol The VMs are actually used in 60 odd student labs and just need to be copied out once, then the machine is frozen so they can be returned to original state. Cheers, Rob

Hi, I often have to copy folders to multiple PCs in labs and have created a script to read the name of the PC from a txt file, read the name of the folder from a txt file and copy out to the machines as bellow. Problem is I need it to copy out to the PCs in the txt file simultaneously. I’m copying VM’s that can be up to 25Gb in size so it’s not viable to copy out to just one machine at a time or it’ll be running all day! Is this possible?? Script I’ve got so far is: InputmachineFile = "C:\VMDEPLOYMENT SCRIPTS\machinelist.Txt" Inputvmfile = "C:\VMDEPLOYMENT SCRIPTS\vmlist.txt" strFolderroot = "\\staffclus\issimages$\VMWare\VM Labs 2011-12\C-Drive" machinecount=0 vmcount=0 Const OverwriteExisting = True Set objFSO = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject") Set objmachineFile = objFSO.OpenTextFile(InputmachineFile) Set objvmFile = objFSO.OpenTextFile(InputvmFile) Do While Not (objvmFile.AtEndOfStream) strvm = objvmFile.ReadLine strfolderName = strFolderroot & "\" & strvm Do While Not (objmachineFile.AtEndOfStream) strComputer = objmachineFile.ReadLine objFSO.Copyfolder strfolderName, "\\" & strComputer & "\C$\VMware\" strComputer = "" machinecount=machinecount+1 Loop objmachineFile.close Set objmachineFile = objFSO.OpenTextFile(InputmachineFile) vmcount=vmcount+1 strvm="" foldername="" Loop MsgBox "Done " & machinecount & " " & vmcount I’m a complete novice at this so any help would be great Rob

Hi folks, I’ve had a troll through the posts and can’t find the answer to my robocopy problem. Basically I have to copy virtual images to many lab computers on campus. I’ve been using a command line: robocopy "\\servername\imagesfolder$\VMWare\VM Labs 2011-12\c-Drive" "\\targetPC\c$\VMWare" /E /R:3 /W:5 In the “c-Drive” folder on the server I have 3 or 4 VMs, and the script checks the target PC to see if the VM is already there and if not it copies over the missing VM folder. Problem is I have to run the script in a cmd shell, then edit the targetPC name and run the script again in another cmd shell and so on. Very time consuming and can often have 50 or 60 cmd windows open on screen! Could anyone tell me how I can pipe in a txt file into my command line with the targetPC names in it and the command will read from that txt please? I also need it to be running the copy to the entire list of PCs at the same time. In other words not copy to one PC then move to the next and so on. Any help gratefully appreciated Rob

Custom .wim image will not import into Deployment Workbench
Rob414 replied to Rob414's topic in O/S Deployment
Thanks for quick reply Synack. I can try deleting D partition of one of the images to see if that helps. However, I do have an image created using the tsmbautorun.exe which doesn't give you the option of flags, just syspreps and generalises. This only has the one partition, and still doesn't show in the workbench but it is in the deployment share folders. Rob -
Hi, I’ve had a look around several forums and found some people with this similar problem but no solutions yet. I have created a thick “golden” image that I want to deploy to several computer labs. It’s a Win7Ent x64 with 2 partitions. I’ve tried to capture it with imagex on boot PE and tried using the tsmbautorun.exe from the capture.iso from SCCM. Both seem to create the wim file fine, however when I try to import this into the Deployment Workbench I get no errors and it does appear in the folder structure of the deployment share, but it doesn’t show in the available operating systems on the workbench. Therefore I can’t create a task sequence and deploy it. It has happened a couple of times now with different images; however, I have successfully imported other wim images I’ve built with no problems. Anyone else have this problem and found a solution? Rob
