Meeting rooms: Samsung TVs with Logitech C920 webcam. Classrooms: Prowise with the move cameras and the extended warranties. In all of the rooms... The Microsoft display adaptor, these are amazing. With the extended warranties on the Prowise screens the cost of ownership over the duration of the warranty works out to be really good. They're solid enough to "set and forget" about them. The downside, the software is not so good. But the picture is amazing and when coupled with the display adaptor and a teacher using a surface pro with the stylus, it's really slick.

Having recently started migrating all uplinks to 10gig fs.com has been a really cost-effective way of doing it. They even reached out after a few small orders asking if they can have a copy of our network diagram to design a migration plan for us.. Gave them the details, switch models and fibre type/length and they came back to me with a realllllly reasonable cost to get everything to 10gig (80 switches)... The downside, the core needed a few extra pricey SFP+ modules, but that was expected...

I guess I'm not so trusting of so many "cloud providers" as some of you and I also like to keep as much possible on prem and stick with the tried and tested methods. My setup is similar to an extent, but rather than rolling out inTune, I've stuck with what I know to be reliable and can support properly. That being on site GPO, getting that to work offsite isn't too difficult, there's DirectAccess and Always On VPN. (In simple terms) User takes their surface home, fires it up, connects to Wi-Fi at the login screen, types their domain credentials in, everything logs in like you're on the network. GPOs still work, remote support, internal resources all work just fine. Yes there's some extra setup to do, remote access server, ISATAP for IT staff computers, some extra GPOs to apply and things to consider like captive portals and caching of profiles for when network connectivity isn't possible. But it works for us, I'm happy with it, teachers are happy, GPOs all work (even when new ones are applied).. Why would I change that?

You only need to forward 443 to the web access server from Any IP. Enable user profile disks and create like a 100GB share on your file server and put the internal path in for that.

Longshot here, cannot find anything on Google.. Has anyone had the error message "Cannot find the template v2mudconnect." When you attempt to open the Database part of Textease? I cannot find the file in the installation folders or a location where the file should be! Any suggestions welcome.

I believe you would need 2012 as the primary server for your GPO. The removal of IE11 is very simple as it can be done through logoff script. It's only installed as a windows update and it leaves IE8 installed after the reboot. You can then upgrade to IE10 thorugh WSUS easily. I understand the whole wanting to keep with the new but removing IE11 is easier than upgrading all your clients to windows 8+ and elevating the domain to 2012. - - - Updated - - - I've tried that before now in a few different schools, each time didn't work.. Even though MS originally said thats how it's done.

I picked android as java is my preferred language to learn. Also, the dev licesnse to publish to google play is $15 one off. IOS is £100 a year the monetization is better with Ios mind.

You can only manage IE11 from Server 2012 with the client as windows 8. It's not impossible but it's MUCH easier to just remove ie11

Sounds about right, just stopping a chkdsk from running until the next time an issue is flagged up. I'd do some diags on the hardware mate since you said that the machine has had disks fail in it before now

If the only reason you would consider the AppleTVs for is the mirroring functionality. Check out airserver, in one of the schools I look after they got licesneses for airserver on every whiteboard machine across the school for the cost of a single AppleTV.

Surley you are better off fixing the problem rather than forcing chkdsk not to run. Assuming it's windows 7 as you posted a link to sevenforums. try running sfc /scannow in an elevated command prompt. if that fails, run some hard disk diagnostics, if it's a dell it's got them built in. If you fail the diags, check that the machine is still under warranty.

There's a few things here.. 1, The cost of the devices 2, Theft 3, Remotes going missing I'm assuming your PC's/projectors are secure, thats great. Why bother add more hardware when there is a software package available that will do everything that an apple tv is required for in a classroom. Not to mention, per apple TV you could actually have almost 12 licenses for. Providing your wireless is on the same network as your curriculum, bonjour is enabled with device discovery you can replicate the iPad straight to the pc at a fraction of the cost. Lets face it, the only reason apple TVs are showing up in schools are not because you can watch Netflix or youtube on them. It's for the mirroring. Netflix/youtube already works perfect on the PC/projectors. What's the point in adding another layer of hardware for a simpleton geography teacher to get confused by. The insane costing of the devices and the concerns around security. Build around what you've already got as a rock solid and stable environment. Software that provides mirroring at a fraction of the cost with no stupid tickets logged because the staff dont understand they have to pick "input 1" for the PC and "input 2" for the apple TV. Along with no remotes to get lost. It's not hard.

Why don't you tell them to go buy the system builders version? Surly if they are capable (VERY debatable based on my dealings with teachers....) of installing an OS they can build a system and understand if you buy a 99p fan you are eligible to buy an OEM copy of MS Windows for system builders..

I wish back when I was in school they ran some sort of "Coding club" I don't mean to sound insulting but I know I wouldn't have been terribly interested the Raspberry Pi/LED boards/Python at all Just my two cents here, why don't you keep it current, keep them interested.. Make android apps. At the end of the day, it's java. The kids will be keen to learn as they will be able to see their own creation on their phones and show off to their creations: calculators, soundboards etc etc etc, things they could even use during other lessons. There's also a few even better incentives. Everything to do it is free, there's a built in emulator in the ADT. It does run like crap but it works for debugging purposes, if you have tablets you can enable developers mode on them and actually use the devices for debugging. The best incentive is this, $15 one off fee for the developers license to Google to publish to the android app store. Googles adsense program extends to mobile devices through AdMob which is VERY simple to implement. Here's the best statistic, I made a truly awful app, a Celsius to Fahrenheit converter. It's made me £200 since Christmas. If there was a coding club when I was back in school, I would have been straight there. If they were teaching java, I would have been there quicker. But if they were to show how to make apps, you wouldn't have been able to keep me away...
