  1. Hi, No problems, we did start denying the group but then narrowed it down to user. We even tried deny "everyone" delete but they were still able to delete it. The Here are our permissions (The blanked out section is just the owner):
  2. This to me seemed a really simple request. But it just isn't working or I am missing some fundamental understanding! File "test.txt" is placed in a students home drive. I don't want that user to be able to delete that file. So in the security tab, I set a "DENY" in the "delete" checkbox for this file. They can still delete it? I then (to rule out any problems with the file server, inheritance, propagation from above) shared a new home folder on my PC and mapped the students home drive to it. Still the same. Am I missing something here!! Thanks in advance
  3. Since we have upgraded to Office 2013, when a user attempts to print a document in colour, they goto print and then tick colour..... The server/printer ignores this and prints in mono. If users want to print in colour they have to click "Printer Properties" and choose colour from within the driver. Has anyone found a way to make the server honour the office selected options? Another option for us is to add two maps to the one printer, one mono and colour but I would rather have it sorted! Thankyou!!
  4. Many of our rooms have a splitter and projector connected to them and staff use them to display DVDs to the students. I want to use WMP to play the DVDs instead of VLC (As staff get confused etc). When the monitor is connected directly to the PC is plays fine. But when a splitter or projector is attached it complains: "Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because there is a problem with digital copy protection between your DVD drive, decoder, and video card. Try installing an updated driver for your video card." I understand that this is because the splitter or projector is probably not HDCP compatible? Is there any workaround?
  5. Hi, We have this summer flattened our "2003 file server". It is a physical server connected to an Dell MD3000 Array. It now has Server 2008 R2 installed and currently all unchanged out of the box. I was wondering if there are any pointers or tips that are advised to improve performance/stability etc on R2 connected to an array? We are not currently having any issues, but Im sure I have read over the last few years some threads but never taken them in as we were still on 2003. Thanks in advance.
  6. Just done some more testing. Ive switched users and Word templates work for one member of staff but not for another, so I would guess this rules out filtering? Different Office applications appear to cache the templates at these folders: c$\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Office\15.0\WebServiceCache\AllUsers\officeimg.vo.msecnd.net c$\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Office\15.0\WebServiceCache\AllUsers\office15client.microsoft.com c$\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Office\15.0\WebServiceCache\AllUsers\office.microsoft.com We currently have the below whitelisted and do not require auth: office15client.microsoft.com officeapps.live.com ieonline.microsoft.com login.microsoftonline.com office.microsoft.com odc.officeapps.live.com clientconfig.microsoftonline-p.net officeimg.vo.msecnd.net
  7. Hi, We are having a strange problem with the online templates. On my install they worked perfectly for all applications. For staff just word worked and for students nothing. We assumed it was internet filtering, but now I think this isn't the case. Since logging on to another computer with my account, now none work at all, and word still works for staff? Has anyone else seen anything like this? Error we get in office: 'sorry we had trouble getting the featured templates' 'try again' 'work offline' The logs in smoothwall suggest everything is fine.?
  8. So... if we have server 2012 DCs do we just install the hot fix on the workstations? Is there a 2012 version for the DCs?
  9. A few of us in the office got this when we pinned a folder in windows 8 (ie. My computer) We unpinned it and pinned it again and it went away.
  10. Thanks for the replies. Glad I didn't waste time!! Dhcp I will definetly install on both DCs as suggested.!
  11. Hi all, We had a power outage and one of our hyper-v DCs did not shut down gracefully. When rebooted it was presenting with the DC in a loop with error "0xc00002e2" On reading up on this M$ approach was to remove DC and start over. There were several other fixes that some people have had success with, but they didn't seem to apply to me. Domain controller does not start, c00002e2 error occurs, or "Choose an option" is displayed I couldn't recover from a backup as we had no snapshots (removed as we ran out of space last week) and the nightly backup was a backup of the Dc in a failed state! What I did: Seize all the roles onto the 2nd server 2012 DC Shift F8 and load into DSRM mode. Export DHCP to a file, setup DHCP on the 2nd DC and import the export. Remove Directory Services from the failed DC Reboot server normally into windows. DCPROMO to remove the dead DC Setup a brand new domain controller Promote DC Setup DNS/DHCP Share the roles. check backups check backups again Would anyone have done anything differently? I could have promoted the recovered DC again maybe but thought it better to start fresh? Thanks in advance
  12. No worries. For us it happened when we logged in every student machine at once using the teacher vision application. Rebooting doesn't help but it goes away only when you physically log in at the keyboard. After that it was fine.
  13. Do you have netop vision installed? We recently had this. It went away after one login.
  14. Check DNS, check date time, check NIC driver, test with different switch/hub, gpresult, take off the domain and add back on. I would defenitly look at checking domain controller replication. Also if i remember there is a regfix for nics that attempt to start too early, I think you add a delay? Edit. Just read you have tried most of the above! Good luck.
  15. Hi, Will have a look when I get some time. It is working here on 2013 outlook. We skipped 2010. Good luck!
  16. If you are installing Windows 7 enterprise I believe you don't need to enter a key. Just setup your KMS. You need a certain number of PCs to try and activate before the KMS starts activating. So if you are testing KMS with one PC in the office it will never work. If you have already rolled out Win7 pro, you can bulk change the key to the KMS key using VAMT.
  17. Just what I needed!! We ARE using MDT !! Thanks will try this in the morning! Maybe devise a startup script or something Thankyou
  18. We use a zebra p100i
  19. Dell and lenovos.. Will leave the sccm install .. Only 4 days left. I'm guessing dell have a broadcast command to wake them from off into pixie?
  20. Just thinking aloud. We have 600 machines to reinstall with windows 7 this summer. I have wds/deployment manager setup so all it needs is an F12 to pixie boot and the rest is automated. I just wondered from XP is it possible to remotely send a command to reboot into a pixie boot environment? Or remote in and load the boot.win? Basically want to do the whole school sat as my desk!!!
  21. Hi, We have a few special school days coming up, one being a "Big Walk" where student will be out completing an 8 mile walk in the countryside. We are being asked If students could take out their phones and live tweet something like #BigWalk as they complete the walk. Regarding students having their phones out and using them is now OK as the school policy has changed, but im thinking what if a student or even an external "tweeter" tweets inappropriate content on the school twitter feed? Can tweets be moderated first? I cant be the only one in this situation? Thanks
  22. Hi, Has anyone deployed blender (blender.org) ? It uses its own GUI file explorer. This means that it shows all the hidden mapped shares and also the local C drive. There is also a tick box to allow "Hidden Files" ! Does anyone have a solution to this? Scratch also has this kind of gui but in the ini you can specify which drives are visible "VisibleDrives=n:" Thanks in advance.
  23. Check first, but maybe redirect My Docs to %homeshare%%homepath% ?
  24. Worcestershire broadband have it blocked. Seems to be the correct decision.
  25. Think thats going too matey.. more hassle than its worth with staff clicking the wrong buttons and losing work theyve done for period 1. Although I think I remember you said its better with w7?
