OMG I have just realised that the piece of **** renames the Programs folder to Start Menu... so not only does it ruin My Documents it decides to rename the programs folder too.

Right okay, when I try and connect to the printer via UNC I get 'A policy is on place on your computer which prevents you from connecting to the print queue' In the GP I had already set the warning to Do not show warnings on both drop downs... when I click apply and go out and come back in the setting has changed to Show warnings... it won't let me change the settings.

PS. How do you get rid of the Sync Centre, I had accidentally set it for one of the redirected folders and now its constantly on even though I don't want it on.

Thanks for the help guys, I hadn't set the 120 seconds timeout which fixed the deployed programs. I installed the hotfix but I am only allowed to install one printer, its saying that its blocked. For more information, contact your system administrator. The handle is invalid Theres nothing blocking it as far as I can tell so I am confused. I have set the point and pritn setting to see if thats it but it still fails. I am getting some little notebooks so thought I would delve into W7 (god I hate it already) I have gone through the gotchas and sorted the desktop but some stuff isn't working. * I have solved the renaming My Document (dumb) thing by deleting all the desktop.ini files from the home folders then used the file screener to disallow the file.. seems to work ok although I am getting errors in the event log which I think is to do with W7 trying to create them. * I am getting loads of 'the handle is invalid errors' and the event log doesn't help much as I keep getting The description cannot be found. * My redirected start menu is blank, I have checked permissions, changed the folder path, used start and subfolders but its always showing blank. * I am getting a control panel and library icon on the desktop which i cannot get rid of.. I presume its because I haven't set up my profile yet. *Oh and the biggie which I think is the main problem, there is a delay for the logon server to appear so no GP software installs are working because the network isn't ready *And the GP preferences printers fails also but just for the ones attached to the group permission filtering, room OU targetting works fine. I have been working on this for a couple of days now and need to sort it as I cannot really live with XP for the next 5 years.

Has anyone had good experiences with these guys, I have read the negative reviews on another post but there must be some on here who like them... their portfolio seems pretty good and the CMS system is quite impressive... or am I missing something.

Morning, I have a Ricoh GC31KH gel cartridge that I would like to swap for a GC32K if anyone is interested. This does NOT fit in the Ricoh GelSprinter GX e3350N as it only takes the standard yield cartridges, it fits the bigger GX e5550n printers. The box and plastic bag has been opened but the cartridge has not been pierced to start it off. Just after a straight swap for a standard one which is new. Thanks.

I think I fixed it, *fingers crossed* I must have installed the beta SP1 a while ago and when the new version came out if triggered the pre-release warnings. I uninstalled the Service Pack and reinstalled and it seems fine... W7 version number was correct and the SP version didn't mention Beta so I luckily remembered what I did.

After updating my computer last week to SP1 its now saying this is a pre-release. This is the second time this has happened and I definitely am running the full version as downloaded from M$. Anyone else had this? I have 1 day left to activate, a new key doesn't help and I can't find a hack.

I think its really cool (and way over the top) 1000 Ways to be Wildly Successful The company that designed their school page looks really good, shame the $ exchange isn't as good as it used to be or might have been more enticing to go abroad for a designer.

We use Opera 2, very restricted bit of kit so we are looking at Sage 200 which seems alot better.

I can't log into the configuration utility. I have tried the local users I created, Sims users, domain users, nothing lets me log in.

Given up on it, unknown error when trying to log on to Discover which is useful. It doesn't say what windows permissions the local users that it tells you to create should have... I have them as just users. Like the new search bar function...the drop down is from the 90s but it works a treat

It seems to be fine now, after second reboot. I did notice the network emualtor (somethign like that) had crashed so I thought it was the integrated services. I run it as a file server because there are loads of debates on this and as I am a smallish netowrk it usually runs happily. I have one for the OS and another VHD with the files on a seperate controller.

Morning, My Hyper-V client running Server 2003 crashed twice this morning, I just updated the Integrated Services Disk so fingers/toes/eyes crossed that its okay now. Seemed okay last night after the update but now its getting hammered a bit it crashed.

Its a private broadband which i kinda fudged. Do you mean for DirectAccess? We don't use it as I couldn't see a way for non domain machines to use it. I think I had a play with it by just using port forwarding on my Smoothwall but didn't go deeply into it... our ISP gives us 5 usable IP's so I was able ot use them. Its not the smoothest config I have but it works.

I downloaded the free GPUPDATE utility the other day... very nice piece of kit especially when I am trying to sort out printers deployed via preferences. Anyone got a rough ide of the cost of Deploy?

Hi, I have gone over the printer preferences in the hope to make it easier to do default printers but its not working. I have all my printers in one policy and item level tagging for each computer OU. The only users who have other printers are staff who have item level tagging for their security groups. Deployment is fine for rooms with just deployed printers but any rooms with local printers get the deployed printers as default no matter what I try. I have the tick box checked ..only if the local printer is not present... tried it with all disabled... loopback.... can't get it to work. Looking at GP modelling it should work but I can't get it to. Anyone got this working and can offer me advice?

I worked it out, even though the Firewall service was disabled it was still blocking traffic. I disabled the service because it was set via GP so couldn't just disable the firewall. Enabling the FW and then adding the program exceptions worked.

Has anyone else ever had a problem connecting to their W7 desktop?I cannot RDP, browse or ping to it. I have disabled the firewall and the network discovery setting are all ok. I've been through the network device and can't see any reaon why the outside world cannot look in.The only thing that I had an issue with was I was using Virtuabox with 2 NIC's but I removed that.I am stumped where it could be blocked, I've even removed the AV but its still not allowing me to RDP in or even ping.

Morning, I have vertrigo on my desktop to do some website testing with Joomla but the param.ini is unwriteable.. I have set up a ftp local server and client but its giving me SITE CHMOD 777 params.ini Response: 504 Command not implemented for that parameter Anyone got any advise on how to fix this.. it seemed to work at home but kept resetting itself after I saved the template.... its a Rockettheme template using gantry and theres nothing online about it.

I've got it working. All the computer rooms have their own OU Create a policy and go into user preferences and control panel settings and then add a shared printer with the delete command to delete all connections on the OU group. Add a new shared printer and browse to the connection on the server. Go into common and click 'remove this item' and then click in item level tagging, I assigned printers to the computer rooms OU and have done some using security groups too. Works a treat, was pulling my hair (whats left of it) out yesterday when printers where staying on the computers when I moved rooms but I had put the delete on the TCP/IP printers not the shared ones. PS. Make sure the GP isn't at the top of the tree or it will delete all printers.

I have taken the plunge into preferences but I am struggling as the preferences seem to be a bit hit and miss, can I ask how you have set it up? I have tried creating one policy at the top of the user tree, using user config preferences and made all my printers available via replace and ticked the box 'remove item....' I have then used item level tagging for each printer to assign it to a room. Did you use the loopback to make sure the default is assigned properly.. I haven't and it seemed to take what I ticked in the user config bit. I log onto 2 machines with the same account.. one gets the printers... another sees the printers from when i was testing a bit ago...not mandatory profiles which i am wondered if is an issue.

Shame they don't have the Estonian voice to translate 12 months into Estonian
