Hi, We are looking at buying apple TV for the classrooms but 3 of the rooms don't have HDMI connectors. I usually buy the Kanex connectors which I got for a bargain on Amazon recently but they have gone back up in price alas. As an alternative to having to run extra cables I was thinking of a VGA switch.. and one of the projectors only has 1 VGA input. How about this 2 Port HDMI & VGA to VGA + Audio Switch | LINDY UK Theoretically a VGA and HDMI can be inputted and a single VGA going out. Bit pricey and I am not sure how good the output will be. Anyone used something like this on theirs?

Hi, I have successfully for Meraki working the Ipads and its going well but just wanted to make sure I am doing it right. I have the setting on the iPad which syncs the apps on all the ipads using the same account. This works well as when I deploy an app I just have to put the iTunes password in one of them and it syncs to them all. This works fine but now I am looking at paid apps. I have a VPP account set up, I have seen the codes bit in Meraki to put the codes in but will the deployment work as before where I just have to put the code in once? Also, if I wanted to deploy an apps to just 10 iPads will the sync apps override the tag in the console (or have I misunderstood the syncing of apps altogether?)

Hi, I must be missing something obvious here but here goes. I am using exchange and google in a split delivery environment. Our pupils mail are delivered to Google and staff use exchange. I want to create contacts in exchange so the teachers can email the pupils from exchange to Google... a contact for each pupil and a few distribution lists for the year groups. I hoped it would be simple but looking on the net it looks like it needs to be powershelled... is this right? Anyone done better?

I think they wanted to be able to rollout mini patches and hotfixes more easily and streamline to upgrade process. Its pretty awful to be honest in our school, there is always clients that for some reason don't pick the update up but its my fault not Sims is the stock reply.

Says I need to purchase the chrome licenses so its not gone through yet. They are blaming a new system with Google but I have teachers who want to use them right now.

Still waiting for Google to supply me the codes. Its either Stone or Google but I am not impressed

The PHP file is defintely in the directory and the windows permissions are ok, do I need to do anythign with apache? I am running it inside a WAMMP install. I do have a different IP for the Wamp install if that helps.

Hi, I purchased some chromebooks and manangement console licenses (chromebooks arrived today) and wondered how the licenses are delivered. I have my google domain setup and ready but just waiting to get them up and running with the management stuff. Its not licensed in the console yet, asking me to buy some. Will it just appear?

Woohoo.. after 2 days of toiling and messing I now have 1.7.5 on this little mac mini and apple configurator

As I am new to Macs I have made lots of mistakes recently. We are buying 20 iPads so I thought I would buy myself a mac mini cheap so I can run MDM on it. Well. I bought a 1.1 which doesn't run it so... I upgrade the chip to a 2Ghz Core 2 Duo and firmware and its now a 2.1 Not enough memory then so... I scrounged some from a older PC and its got 2Gb now Still won't upgrade through the apps store so I got myself a dmg and am following a 'hack' to get it installed. Sort of fun to go back to hacking stuff to get it to work (even enjoyed stripping the mac mini down) As the disk is verifying on the mac now I thought i would ask... anyone got this working on a macmini with a similar spec?????? Only really want it to do MDM stuff.

If films/tv shows are purchased through apple tv can they be used on different apple tv deviced through the school (we only have 3) legally if I use the same itunes username on each one? Well I managed to set this up in 10 minutes, split delivery works extremely well.

Okay so I am coming round to email accounts for junior kids after discussing it with staff. So how about I create a subdomain for kids. %username@students.****.co.uk and just host that on Gmail? i read somewhere you can import contacts so allow sharing between domains.

I suppose its difficult as the guy running it knows what they can do and knows what he wants, he has used it before and sees the benefits... I would like to get them so they have different systems to use, not just M$ but they have to play together. What I really need is a system that they can all work with, going over to chromebooks fully is the same argument as staying with M$... one vendor, one system. We need a system that plays with everyone. I supose KS1 and KS2 is a way to trial these.

The junior school wants them. I need to work out a way to co exist. I cant move our emails just for 40 devices. I will chat with google tech about it. It sounds like i am being stubborn but i don't want to jump right in. think i will pop down to PC world and pick one up

Its not a matter of need really, it works... why change. I see no benefit for having a cloud based email system housed on a advertising companies website. We send stuff between staff all the time which is instant and very easy, and I would probably need to look at upgrading our internet speed.

I have disabled Gmail already on the domain, I have a Exchange network working fine so I suppose if I want to go down this route I need to think of a better solution. If you are saying we need to give 7 year olds access to emails, no matter how much we can restrict them then I definitely need to get permission from parents and discuss with SMT. We wont be moving our domain emails to gmail, we are a business as well as a school so we need outlook. A subdomain is an option I suppose.

Damn, no way I am giving KS1/2 kids email accounts. Certainly wouldn't be happy as a parent doing it either.

Does A) mean you need students to have emails to function?

Hi, We are looking at getting chrome book for the junior school over the next few weeks. I haven't got my hands on one yet so need some help in advance if someone can help. 1) I have Gaps and Gads setup and working. I wont be moving emails over, I don't trust Google so how does the collaborative stuff work when Google doesn't have access to email the share permissions? I am also a bit cloudy about groups, they seem to sync but not sure how to use them yet. 2) Backup, I know Google doesn't do backups so was thinking about a sync between Google drive and AD (we will still have AD) Anyone got a solution for this? Prefer to just have a folder in the home directory they sync. 3) How do you guys handle the internet logging? We have Smoothwall in situ... I can allow the logon through I imagine so they log onto the laptop correctly but is there a way to log their traffic without using SSL logon? Thanks in advance

Hi, I have a few projects on the go and one consists of a small classroom with a projector at the front without a PC (well without a teachers PC they sit at). Now it needs to be an ultra short throw one but the wireless ones are a bit steep so I was thinkign of maybe attaching a mini pc to it and having a tablet to control the screen (or wireless KB and Mouse) but they want the computers to be able to prioject onto the screen also... kinda like apple tv and the ipads. Anyone got a similar setup going? Needs to be cheap as chips. The teacher wants it to be cool so we are getting all in ones so no cable clutter so I am putting a little network cabinet in the corner where the printer will live on top of so the PC could sit in there or on top.
