I'd like to use a micro bit to trigger my Canon 1000D SLR. Can I use the micro bit to close the circuit like a push to make switch would do, or can I only do it by pushing 3V down the wire and would that damage the camera? Or is the voltage coming out the remote shutter port likely to damage the micro bit? I don't know what sort of voltage goes through the remote shutter socket. Thank you Stuart

Have you got any computer suites which don't have SSDs in? If so, could you offer pros and cons of replacing the 5 year old laptops, putting their SSDs in a suite thereby extending the life of that too vs replacing batteries on 5 year old laptops with dodgy hinges and also still having to upgrade the suite at some point?

Presumably I'm reading it differently. I'm taking it as "If you need to tell some official body/person something about a child which you wouldn't normally tell them due to data protection but there's a child protection issue if you don't, then you tell them".

I have a number of D-Link switches and Netgear APs for sale. The APs were connected to a controller and I believe there's something clever you need to do to make them work without a controller again which I haven't done! The controller isn't for sale..... 2x D-Link DGS-1210-48 4x D-Link DGS-1210-24 2x D-Link DGS-1224T 3x D-Link DGS-1210-16 (2 of these are the full 19" width, the other is quite narrow with big arms screwed to the side to make it rackmountable. I tried auto-lock and got told to remove it again as it's the PC which is connected to the projector and teachers like to leave the same slide displayed for more than five minutes sometimes. Clearly the "freeze" button on the projector remote is a little too taxing. It was a couple of years ago I tried it, perhaps I can have another go and throw GDPR in to the mix a bit. Whilst the passwords may not be secure, they are enough to prevent a student jumping on the teachers PC if they leave the room for more than two minutes. Not a problem we have had here, but there's always a first time. The non-case-sensitive passwords has always made me laugh as the dialog box shouts at you if caps lock is on! Stupid SIMS.....

Capita stop being rubbish and write their software properly - problem solved. I'd use the AD logins if I felt more staff would lock their computers when they walk away. I just don't trust them enough.

I'm not after a solution (unless there is one!) just grumbling really about how rubbish SIMS .net is again. New user setup a couple of weeks ago. She can't log in as she lost the note with her original password on it; you know the random selection of numbers and letters. Not a problem! I go in to SIMS, look it up by going in to manage users and typing her surname in and clicking search. Give it to her again. Won't work. Check I've done it right and I have. Still won't work whether she does it or I do it, on her laptop on on my known working laptop. Seearched for her again and this time double clicked the result. Completely different username and password displayed, and everytime you double click her username in the "Browse" bit it generates a different password. The password in the "Browse" bit is always displayed the same. Screenshot attached. Grumble grumble, moan moan, swear swear..... Stuart P.S. Hackers - This is not her password anymore.

It isn't in tablet mode. I know it doesn't necessarily make a difference to tablet mode, but the laptop isn't touch screen or have any IWB software/drivers installed.

Morning, I've bought a dozen refurb'd HP 8570p laptops and installed Windows 10 and all the latest drivers from the HP website. The display keeps rotating itself! It has a sensor in it to rotate the screen depending on which way up the laptop is, but whilst flat on a table it will rotate the screen on to it's side after only a couple of minutes. You can straighten it again by pressing CTRL + ALT + Up, but then it flips back again anywhere between immediately and a few minutes. It's got an Intel HD 4000 in it. I've googled and found this (https://support.hp.com/gb-en/document/c01676226) however that is presumably for a different version of the driver as I don't have a tick box to disable auto-rotation. I downloaded the latest version of the driver from Intel and that said it won't work on my device. Anyone else had this? Thank you Stuart P.S. Why do you even need auto rotate in a laptop?? How often do people turn their laptop on it's side and back again? Hotkeys to do it manually, fine, but the expense of a sensor?? Weird...... P.P.S. No it doesn't have a detachable screen.

I had to pay the DVLA with a cheque to transfer a number plate. It was either that or a postal order, but the postal order cost was an extra £12 on top!!! That's a hell of a mark up.... There's no reason in this modern day though a cheque should still take days to clear.

Along these lines, what do people do about them seeing the whiteboard? In primary schools, I have used VNC in view only mode from the child's device to the teacher's computer, but in high schools the teacher usually has their email and SIMS .net open which the primaries I've done it in don't use. Obviously the child can't see these. Any suggestions? Stuart

We've had them all about six months, and they are all outside. I've ordered all of my Salto stuff through AC Leigh. They've been good.

We use them here. We bought nine, three of them failed within about a month. All replaced under warranty, but it seems to take a very long time to do it. Also, they aren't hardened steel. The ones we've had to cut off, we got through in about two minutes with a junior hacksaw we borrowed from DT. On the upside, all of our gates remain locked at all times and if we have a fire then any member of staff can open the gates to allow the kids passage to our gathering point. The door handles I can't speak highly enough of. They're brilliant. Stuart

She's sending a year groups worth, so around 150. She can also get them to come out in the correct order if rather than waiting for them all to queue, then ticking the box for "Apply to all jobs in queue", she clicks OK on the dialog for each inidividual print job, but then of course she has to do that around 150 times for an entire year group. It just doesn't make any sense to me that using both methods, all 150 queue, then she ticks the box and sends them all at once, yet one queue is alphabetical and the other isn't.

If my exams lady prints her individual reports to the exams printer via the "FollowYou" queue, they come out alphabetically. If she prints them to the printer "Exams printer", which is still going through PaperCut and all the same dialogue boxes of "Which department to bill", they don't. Any ideas why? I know the answer is "Just print them to followYou and log in to the exams printer", but there's a long story behind why we don't want to in the future. Stuart

I've tried this and all I can do is view the camera, capture, calibrate it, and draw lines and circles on it. Do I go in through a different port to get to an admin side of things?

I wonder if their website being hacked and some people being made redundant are related? Disgruntled much?
