From that screen, If I click in the Value section, it just lets me type what I want in there, it saves it... it shows it in WMP11 at least. I don't think it'll do it if it's read only and I'm not sure about copy protected files.

Not 100% sure if it is customisable beyond that what the stylesheets control, but nonetheless http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa996029.aspx that link should get you started changing the colours at least

Dim mysql, adocon mysql = "Driver={MySQL ODBC 3.51 Driver}; Server=DBSVR1; Database=LOGONTEST; UID=; PWD=" Set adocon = CreateObject("ADODB.Connection") #--- Run query adocon.Open MyQuery, mysql #--- update something? adocon.Open mysql adocon.ExecuteQuery(MyQuery) adocon.close Possibly. I'm not 100% if it's correct, I've just blagged that out of an ASP.NET VB project I'm working on. I'm pretty sure they are similar. I may have some commands wrong. Google knows all if I am. (One day I'll be better than Google... but until then...)

*looks around quietly* We've got one of them there Dell NX1950 dual head dealies... good tech support though (Still no idea what advantage WUDSS has over R2, but then I don't care either file goes on, file stays there. Nothing more needs to be done)

Another Pageplus user eh ? Our staff lurvvvve PP. We did have an issue with Pageplus 11 whereby some features weren't available to users who weren't members of the local admin group. It was the only app that did this , and contravened our security policy. Fortunately they fixed this oversight in PP X2. I personally didn't want ANY Serif applications on there. Each one as far as I'm concered has been replaced by at least one application within the Adobe Master Collection. But noooooo, apparently I'm wrong - In the end I had to give in due to anemail to the head I know I'm right though, and that's all that matters. While on the subject of base images... be sure to remove the XP games I made that mistake once... We don't use redirected start menu's, so we tidy those up too - removing/hiding the stuff nobody needs to click on... AV, Defender, Messenger etc.

Windows XP + Updates - shame XP isn't like Vista Adobe Master Collection (where applicable) Serif DrawPlus/PagePlus (crap but insisted ) Everything else is installed via Group Policy NB: How do you get XP to be HAL Independant??

Does this mean you can't use one the itsy bitsy, "I lost it in my pocket" Asus laptops?

I've had a search and couldn't find the answer to my question here or on the net - not even ms.com? We've put a Deploy and Capture CD together to do imaging on PXE boxes... The capturing works fine - we worked out what to run off the CD, but I don't get why it can't start automatically? The issue I have is that I can't get the deploy CD to have an interface, no matter what I do. Nothing loads that will deploy an image to the computers. Does anyone have any ideas how I do this or why it doesn't work?

I was under the impression you were only allowed to have 64 previous versions... I've had this as issues before several times. We whacked up our DC's security log to hold a week or two's worth of logon/logoffs so we used that to determine if the student had logged in elsewhere in college that they've never been. If the log indicates they have, change the password and that's that problem solved (unless he lied.. in which case he has fun in detention) The other idea might be to utilise Logon Hours and deny him/her access to log on to computers that they don't need to log onto.

As far as I know, the All Users stuff is assigned at the computer level - making it always there.

Ranger remote control, disable help requests
Lithium replied to cookie_monster's topic in Network and Classroom Management
If Ranger is anything still like a rebranded NetSupport - which it sounds a lot like... (I assume Ranger is the RM thing) There's a default shortcut key... I think it's [Ctrl] + [shift] + [Alt] I think... In NSS it's controlled by a config file which is deployed after the setup - or at least that's how I'm doing it... -
I suspected it wasn't possible, but then surely what I want to achieve isn't out-of the ordinary and surely I can't be the only one?

I've been playing it at home, I can't get it to do it. I can get it to mirror and flip the screen... that's about it actually.

I have a laptop, 2x Dell 17" Monitors and a Matrox DualHead2Go dealie giving my 2 displays stretched over 3 dispays. I can't deal with being at one edge of my desk, it's too uncomfy and I'm lazy to turn so far when I want to pay attention to what I've put over on the far screen.... So I set it up as - 3 | 1 | 2 To get to screen 3, I have to go all the way right (fun to watch people get lost in it when they attempt to use my laptop), or left if I choose the other way. Surely there must be a way that I can split XP's 2nd Display (as Matrox DH2G creates a stretched display) into 2 so that I can place one on the left and one on the right and go left or right between them as I choose without difficulty? Any ideas? I've tried SplitView and UltraMon, I probably didn't do it right, but I didn't immediately see anything that would make this work in either program.

Can't you leave users in the same OU, but simply use the restriction of the policy to only apply to a group rather than Authenticated Users? I think having Loopbacks caused me some issues once, I was really lazy once and applied it to the top level of the domain... *coughs* (I'm not 100% sure why loopback is turned on at the moment...) GP Results sounds like a superplan, it'll tell you if the policy is denied amongst other things - which policy wins setting stuff etc. really useful

I guess that explains a lot (like why Administrators has 200GB) and stuff Thanks

We are running one of Dell's NX systems which runs Unified Data Storage - the R2 version of Storage Server basically. Anyway, I've mastered everything I want to achieve with all the new features, File Screening etc, but I can't do Quota Management. I have all the students on the volume which needs Quota's, and I enabled the Quota on the volume. The only problem with this is that it never picks up the true size of a users home drive - For example, there's a student I know to have a 4.9GB folder, however, Quota Management is insistant that it's just a mere.... 25kb? Even though quota's are enabled on the volume, people are still totally free to exceed their limit - and it has been set to deny space to students who exceed their limit. Anyone have any ideas on this?

Dim oNet Set oNet = CreateObject("WScript.Network") If LCase( Left( oNet.ComputerName, 2 ) ) = "pe" Then strConnectString = "\\ntserverx1\ICT-MF" strResult = objWSHNetwork.AddWindowsPrinterConnection(strConnectString) End If I've never heard of Kix until I read this topic, but I'm not entirely sure what the advantage to using it is? I use VB to map drives based on groups/computers, add printers based on computer names and have had no problems with it, nor does it appear to have any impact on logon times. All the info on VB is widely available too - the fact that if you can use the command in VB6, you can probably use it in a VBS script. (I've only made a quiz in VB before, so I wouldn't know if that's totally true.)

It's fully possible to do - it being legal is a different thing. As long as the music is produced by students, I don't think there's an issue. there's also http://audio.lgfl.org.uk which has some really nice pieces of work on which are free to use on site. I've had no problems with WMS - I put it on 1ghz, 512mb PC which also runs SQL2k5 Express and I had 44 connections go at once with no problems to a directory stream. The biggest thing I initially wanted it for was to act as a relay server - you can set it to connect to supported radio stations - BBC Radio 1 & 2 are for definate and then get staff/students to connect to your server instead of theirs - just 1 link out of college then...

I gave up with unattended installs in the end. They work for <10 computers, when a room gets asked it messes up and usually ends up just installing the shared applications - which you have to remove before a new install actually does anything useful. I did decide in the end to nick an image of the PC's with it all on so I don't lose sanity too badly next time The installer from the DVD's we have wants 1GB, BUT... when run from the network source - it's entirely random as to whether you need 1GB or 512MB... I've installed it with 512MB in a room.... with identical PC's... but for some reason (I think because I dropped the stick on a carpet) 1 has 512MB... but it installed fine... go to another PC... no chance! 768MB is the minimum to install the LOT, but it'll have a moan at you. I had deployed Flash via Group Policy using the licensing from the Adobe Site for MSI's of Flash & Shockwave - but this beast appears to have broken that too http://www.adobe.com/support/shockwave/info/licensing/faq.html <-- if anyone needs a link (I think...)

September last year I went from student to staff, so I went through all this, in one short year... the whole course I did has been completely reversed. I work at the school I went to now, because it's a really nice place, but still... When I did GCSE, I did Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Frontpage and CorelDraw. All of which I dislike (2007 is nice though...) When I did A-level, I did Word, Excel, Access, an Exam (in word on how IT is used in business - whoopy!), FrontPage (with javascript) and something else... I also did a second A-Level, a technical one, which did Hardware in a PC, Teaching a lesson(?), Simple networking, User support, VB Programming(Express is free :/) and again - something I can't remember... Now, when I wander through lessons.. At GCSE you can play with Lego Mindstorms robots, FrontPage is now Dreamweaver w/ Flash. Some other things changed too - Even Year 7's are learning Flash! now. A level is really ranked up too - but that might be because I suggested that if the brief requires suggesting a full list of hardware to setup a network on £40k switches, cables, NIC's, server(s) etc, when it comes to doing it, why not actually do it? (so they do...) I say it is ranked up... a student doing it asked me if ActionScript is a programming language... to which I replied not really... I mean is it? Could you actually teach a class of students that need to write an application in ActionScript? I find it so much more interesting just walking through a lesson listening to them actually learn about something fun, interesting and to a larger extent, something useful. The biggest issue I have, and always love to make it is that the courses are so reliant on you explaining everything to the most minute details, screenshotting every stupid mouse click (a little OTT, but it's the same sorta thing) and stuff like this. Even though I did no truly fun units at GCSE, I enjoyed the bits where I was doing something, but hated to explain everything and as such, had to do several times over because it was never good enough. As a last point - whoever marks it, cannot be IT literate. I couldn't get two large parts of a database I made working - so I faked them working and got an A....

I use Vista's Notes widget on the sidebar Even if you manage to get what you want... Teachers will always complain they're too busy. I still think they're overpaid :/

Why not just put it in the Startup folder for the people who want it? They don't have to log in if they don't want sims, and you've opened sims at the same time for the lazy who can't be bothered
