  1. Did you use Per Device/Per User or Per Connection as a setting? I think that's something that what that does - though I've never used Per Connection before... My understanding is PC is you can nly have x number of connections - as specified there (maybe altered elsewhere...) and PD/PU is if you have 1000 CAL's... 1000 people can connect... Could be wrong.
  2. How are you putting in the username? As username? or domain\username? I remember after we disabled NETbios, that I had to change it to being FQDN\username... Worth a try.. FQDN: Fully Qualified Domain Name... example.blah.blah.blah.blah or hello.local etc.
  3. I've got 2 totally blank S2K3 boxes. One has SQL 2K5 Express w/ Advanced Features installed... The other has IIS installed. Firstly.., did I miss something in the above? Secondly, I've followed the DBA part of Microsoft's Deployment guide and opened TCP/IP and Named ports for remote connections and added 2 accounts (one didn't like the password... but it's right..) as administrators - I don't know if they went in... Whenever I run through the Advanced, Web Front End install on the Application Box, when I am asked to connect to the SP_Config database, it fails (Error 40) The name is right, tried both fully and non-FQL names and FQL/netbios usernames and nothing I try can get connected to it. Any ideas/solutions? I didn't manage to find any thus far and I've tried pretty hard to find a solution. Answer: Database Server Name is not the name of the server itself, but the instance name: MyServerName\SQLExpress (for a default install) If you need to know the name of it, open the Management Studio thingy and it tells you there when asked what you want to connect to.
  4. I neglected to mention that it needs to be to be hidden, or show to be shown by default - some browsers are a bit nit picky about using the display style without it being there.
  5. I'm not sure... can I do that? I've never played with accessibility options before so I'm a bit clueless... Anyone who requires accessibility options has their own personal or county provided laptop with specialist software on as opposed to the Microsoft stuffs... So in fairness, an option to disable it would be nice... Returning to normal is also a good way though... though it'd have to be ran at logon and logoff as they can be applied at the logon promt I thinky. As far as I know - the shortcuts for them are even disabled!?
  6. Under Dreamweaver 9, part of the SPRY framework is a thing called "Lightbox" which covers the screen with something... never used, just saw it in a magazine... For stuff where I want to show additions - the best way (my opinion) is to avoid using popups etc - it can't be filtered by popup blockers then... So I use Div's and a bit of javascript to show or hide it. function ShowLayer( whichLayer ){ var elem, vis; if( document.getElementById ) // this is the way the standards work elem = document.getElementById( whichLayer ); else if( document.all ) // this is the way old msie versions work elem = document.all[whichLayer]; else if( document.layers ) // this is the way nn4 works elem = document.layers[whichLayer]; vis = elem.style; // if the style.display value is blank we try to figure it out here if(vis.display==''&&elem.offsetWidth!=undefined&&elem.offsetHeight!=undefined) vis.display = (elem.offsetWidth!=0&&elem.offsetHeight!=0)?'block':'block'; vis.display = (vis.display==''||vis.display=='block')?'block':'block'; } function HideLayer( whichLayer ){ var elem, vis; if( document.getElementById ) // this is the way the standards work elem = document.getElementById( whichLayer ); else if( document.all ) // this is the way old msie versions work elem = document.all[whichLayer]; else if( document.layers ) // this is the way nn4 works elem = document.layers[whichLayer]; vis = elem.style; // if the style.display value is blank we try to figure it out here if(vis.display==''&&elem.offsetWidth!=undefined&&elem.offsetHeight!=undefined) vis.display = (elem.offsetWidth!=0&&elem.offsetHeight!=0)?'none':'none'; vis.display = (vis.display==''||vis.display=='block')?'none':'none'; } Then just call it as a URL [url="javascript:ShowLayer('mydivid');"]text[/url] then just have a content there's probably a better way of doing it... but where I've used this before it's been really well appreciated... by staff :|
  7. Do you allow the computer to carry on being usable? I acn't remeber the name of the policy oject, but there's one which lets you logon before security settings have taken effect - allowing people access to stuff that GPO's disallow... but this gets removed when the object applies in the background... I thought you were supposed to run Exchange & DC's on seperate machines... but maybe it's me.. Does the Microsoft Help and Support section give any more info on those errors... they usually solve it for me... not that I ever check server event logs................. EDIT: Have you checked the computer that is effected for any GPO Timeouts? or if it says a policy is corrupt? if a policy is corrupt, it'll abort the rest of it... leaving the user unrestricted...
  8. Startup scripts go before the computer even reaches the Ctrl Alt Del screen.
  9. Is it possible to disable them via Group Policy? I can't find das option to do so anywhere in it... It defeats the object really of having these options if some "bright spark" is going to put sticky keys and High Contrast on the computers in 4 rooms... (why they're open is a bit of a mystery at the moment...) Any assistance would be handy though
  10. I think we have a Volume License for Vista Business here... I created an image using a trial install, upgraded again with the key - though I had to actually work out how to put the key in, inside Vista because I wasn't asked for ANYTHING during either install... Anyway, As I remember, if you run under a Domain situation, Vista B' and higher are the only ones which support being added to a Domain. In addition to the above, a discussion with my boss/sysAdmin ended up with this comment: "Microsoft don't think school's need what's included in Enterprise & Ultimate, so we don't have it. But I can think of plenty of places to use Media Centre..." Oddly enough though... Vista works better than XP on some computers.... like... poor spec ones...
  11. http://www.microsoft.com/technet/scriptcenter/resources/qanda/oct04/hey1008.mspx This wouldn't be what you are after then would it...? I don't think you're going to be able to do it without impersonatating the System or being an Administrator if you're running under some form of Limited Account....... I could be wrong though.
  12. As memory serves you just need to be part of the AD Built-In "Administrators" Group... I think... The alternative is if you use just one machine, then he can use the computer management tool to remotely add you to the local Administrators group of that particular machine...
  13. manual installs all work :/ all the other stuffs are ok... I have a feeling after an attempted look into the log file %commonprogramfiles%/adobe/installers that it's not taking my key, which is correct... so whether it's in the wrong place or what... EDIT: posting ambitiously... I removed all but Flash, Fireworks & Dreamweaver from the isntall.xml file... and it's running (well... it has been for 5 minutes and Defender is shouting at me) I might just put a copy of app.xml.or into every folder imaginable in the pitiful attempt to protect the remains of my sanity.
  14. Can't say I'm exactly very happy with the either the support from Adobe, or the software installation process itself. Quite a few people have insisted that they can install via MSI and GP now... but I can't find any guides on this... Does anyone have a link to the above solution in the way of deploying over Group Policy... *gives a cheer* Yay for pointless errors! Any solutions to Error 7? I did the batch file way as part of a computer startup script (as well as racking the GP Timeout thingy to 8 hours - enough time to install...
  15. Don't know if it will help you, but we got stumped by a similar situtation - before I totally destroyed the proxy server at our site.. Anyway, The solution we had was to use the internal domain name\username... so something like mycollege\myuser.
  16. Thanks for everything suggested thus far... though I'm not entirely sure I'm going through anything correctly here. I started out at the MCPS/PRS site... got bored because it seemed overly unsupportive of schools/colleges (directly) and went off across google. I found another site, which I didn't bookmark, silly me, which after a while of suggesting you need some sort of Amateur Radio Broadcasting test for stuff, I got sent back to the MCPS/PRS site... but this time - to a useful section! The license I think I need is issued by CEFM and PRS http://www.mcps-prs-alliance.co.uk/SiteCollectionDocuments/PPS%20Tariffs/CEFM-EE%202007-02%20Tariff-Notes.pdf If anyone fancies a look and just checking I'm right on thinking that would cover me for at least the people which are part of MCPS/PRS... I'm beginning to see why piracy is such a big thing and why people hate internet radio. It's so hard to find the info and do this legitimately
  17. After playing around with SMS9 so much in the last few months (mostly going insane over VBR files - which don't stream too well...) I've decided to bite the bullet and let it go public...ish. However... I wondered just a few days ago if I can Is it illegal to broadcast ripped CD's over a network - where the files are only accessible via the stream? Or am I ok since it's internal... Recently we did have some guy in from a Broadcasting company for Media Students who dragged an over-expensive media-centre PC in and they made a short, 15 minute radio show... While the students were doing that, I spoke to the guy about sharing what they'd created... The schools etc he'd visited said that they upload their original content to their site and if they use people's songs in their productions, they generally stay on the college network and are opened as files... but he also said that as long as the files aren't publically available beyond college networks... that it's fine... so I'm pretty much at a loss of where I go now... I've just been using it for myself so far and the odd member of staff who ripped 8gig's or so to their personal area, or the 12gig roaming profiles
