Thanks I’ll get that updated before I get the ISOs next week.

Hi! Yep school here. Ours was installed 2012 and we are out of support for the last few years am fairly sure Meru require you to back date support/Maintainence before they will do anything so it will cost a bomb for us to get any form of support. In terms of the kit obviously Meru was expensive at the time but am not sure we have or would ever need something like that in the future. We certainly couldn’t afford a like for like replacement in today’s current climate. The Unifi kit seems perfect for us, we’ve tested one AC Pro and everything we have Device wise seems to connect fine so that’s good, like I’ve mentioned our big issue with Meru is the iOS issue which is something we struggle with on a day to day basis as have a fair few iPads around the building. What kind of numbers are you replacing? We’ve got about 68 APs and are going to be replacing with more Unifi to cover a few areas which we’re having issues. The only thing I need to get my head around and some other Unifi users might be able to help The software is it best on a Linux VM? Or do we purchase the cloud key? I’ve noticed the pro APs have two network ports what is secondary one used for?

We are moving to Unifi over the summer, replacing our current Meru kit. Am hoping there isn’t much to go wrong with it, I believe there isn’t a tech support to ring but you get support from the forums and think you can access support via chat in the controller software (I might be wrong here, am sure I saw someone mention this) Looks like we are going to go Pro APs and the Mesh for a couple of external APs. Out of interest what Meru kit are you replacing? We currently have the 4200 Controller with 320is and 320 APs. All work fine but we are over 6 years in and have no support with Meru as t costs a fortune and have issues with iOS devices which I’ve never seen a fix for.

Am going to wait for the ISO to be available on VLSC. You’ll have to let us know how deployment goes.
-
Thanks Arthur. Should have expected it be later, am not in any great hurry to get it so don’t mind having to wait.
-
When will it hit VLSC? Will the timeline feature work with o365 accounts? Domain connected?
-
Are you ripping out any of the apps?
-
Staff set there own and some still forget them. Recovery keys are in AD so it’s just a case of unlocking with that and resetting if needed.

Office 2016 - Auto sign in to Office 365
mullet_man replied to Iain.Faulkner's topic in Office Software
Did you manage to sort this? Noticed it's happening here, mostly for students. Use to sign in automatically now Word/Excel etc just sat at Sign In in top right hand corner. Not sure why, the only thing that's changed is IAMCloud have altered there URLs. Any ideas where logs are kept for Office and signing in? -
Maybe I was looking at the wrong info about the PoE we have the same Meru APs. We've got over 60 APs around our building and a couple external ones too.
-
We are Meru which is 6 years old now and is something we are looking at replacing. Which Meru APs did you replace? Did you replace switches too? I've had a quick look and our POE switches will not support the these new APs.

To link borrowers with local AD accounts so we can get email addresses in do we have to use Azure? I haven't signed up to Azure and don't really want to just to link email addresses? Cheers.
-
We run it locally - deployed with SCCM and have no issues, had the odd teacher laptop not running the client when trying to print but that’s very rare.
-
Hi everyone big thanks for all of the posts they have given me some food for thought.
-
Hi clareq - glad you've fixed your start menu. We've all had many fights with it for the last few years. I create a "slim" image now using hyperv which has just CS6 and Office and then I used SCCM to blast out the rest. Seems to have worked well with 1703 and 1709 so am going to keep with it. There is a task sequence step that you can use to delete the apps you don't during deployment which seems the best route so you keep your image unaltered.

Thanks everyone, I like the web page idea but hosted internally means it can only be read when in school so that's a disadvantage to our current method. Let's see if others have any snazzy way of doing it?
-
Haha makes our weekly emailed PDF document seem like light years ahead of its time
-
Thanks. Is the web page secure? Login required etc?
-
Hi all, How does your school deal with staff notices/bulletins? We are looking to move from a large PDF of notices sent out weekly. Is there anything good in O365? Share points, teams, yammer? Thanks!
-
Yeah Capita did the work, that was part of the deal. We are still the same domain and domain name just we are all now our own copy/version of it. We did rip out AD and rebuild everything, ditched roaming profiles which were a massive massive issue here. We are now in a much better position.

Yes we were a single domain across a few schools but we are all now our own domain.

Is a chrome book any good if you use O365? Obviously students save on the network so won’t be able to log on etc?

Thanks AButters - some great pointers thanks for that. We are looking at extending the devices but our devices are a mixture of Dell 5520s/Tosh netbooks and the Dell's are breaking daily due to their very rubbish hinge design. We'd also require new batteries as 5 year old batteries are not holding their charge very well as you'd expect. So your probably looking at around a 100+ investment on a 5 year old piece of kit, not sure if thats something we'd look to do. The netbooks are useless and an SSD when I tested made no speed difference, Atom processors and 2GB of RAM! Shockingly slow. Am going to let the powers that be decide where the priorities lie, we have sorted out IT rooms with PCs (originally they used laptops) and replace teacher laptops so it's mostly student devices that needs looking at. Ideally yeah I'd love to get more PC rooms than laptops, originally everything was laptops/netbooks throughout the building - they made some bad decisions with BSF, all before my time I should add. Thanks again!

We have done the same here with support, we've now replaced servers (due to old ones being out of warranty and HP wanting a small fortune to extend the warranty for 1 year) We are currently finding it hard to work out a plan to replace devices that are all out of warranty and 5 year old, we obviously don't have the money required to replace everything in one go.

NetSupport School 12.5 Out Now...but where?
mullet_man replied to Netwacky87's topic in Enterprise Software
Hi Al I've probably done something wrong but I've deployed out 12.5 MSI to devices and it seems to be causing a big issue on our staff machines. (Am hoping it auto upgrades older installations?) Causing a werfault.exe error which just loops and only rebooting fixes it. Any ideas?
