Bootable usb drive to clone HDD to SSD. What to use?
Jaan replied to Jaan's topic in How do you do....it?
Cheers guys -
We have a couple of machines that have unique usage scenarios with custom software. These computer have a default image assigned to them and we use FOG. For 90%+ of the site, we will just drop the SSD in and re-image. But due to our limited resources, i don't want to have to manually configure bits of software people use (mainly office staff). Is there a free to use bootable USB piece of software people could recommend please? Just clone from one disk to another. This will be the fastest approach for us in this scenario. I used to use Norton Ghost back in the day to do this...... but i'm showing my age now! thanks in advance

Site down? Shame, found this really useful with us considering ubiquiti for our future infrastructure.

We're due a server refresh this year. We have two r610 acting as hyper-v hosts with local (replicated) data. These were never specced as VM hosts and were not even running hyper-v when i started. We're having IO/RAM uses as we are over utilising them, the hardware has very limited warranty time left. We've been looking at hyperconverged, with integrated interconnect or external physical switch based interconnect as well as Nvme\HDD storage tiering. I guess my questions are as follows; Are you hyper converged or planning to be? If so how many nodes do you have? How are they interlinked? What hardware is it? Who supplied and/or installed the servers? Sorry for all the questions, and thinks in advanced.

Yes it does, it's a historical "thing"

Hi all, This started to be an issue with we changed to DFS and the users drive changed from "\\server-name.domain\staff$\Username" to "\\domain\staff$\Username" Browse manually to their N: which is \\domain\staff$\Username\mysimsdocs we can open the reports directly. Just doesn't want to do it via sims. anybody any pointers or can suggest anything i've overlooked with Sims ? the error is (Names/usernames and domain removed) cheers

I had to enter missing user details into DHCP-->ipv4 properties-->advanced-->Credentials This user account needs to also be a member of the "DnsUpdateProxy" group......... i found i video on youtube late last night lol. still not sure how to update dynamic ptr records to "static" tho lol Cheers all

Long story short, our dhcp/dns records are out of whack on return. I've observed the following; 1) Machine gets ip from dhcp 2) Machine/IP appears in DNS forward lookup zone 3) Does NOT appear in Reverse lookup zone 4) Right click the machines properties in forward lookup zone, and uncheck "update associated pointer (PTR) record" 5) Repeat step 4 but re enable "update associated pointer (PTR) record" and click apply 6) Machine appears in Reverse lookup zone No PTR entry is generated automatically. it appears only after i uncheck the update PTR box and press Apply. I then re check that box andpress Apply. After that the PTR for that entrygets created automatically.

Sysprep works fine when not connected to a network.

Hi all, after spending loads of time on my Windows 10 GPOs to get it where it needs to be for testing. I've fails at the first step. SYSPREP! From what i've read is something to do with the TDM service that won't stop, and as a result, causes sysprep to fail. ANybody had this issue and have any pointers please?

We use stone for our new pcs now and will be requesting a quote from them on our return in sept. We're jumping to 10 soon and our "Older" PCs just need their life extending somewhat from 4gb to 8gb and 240 SSD. Never really bought components before as we normally just run them into the ground and replace the pcs at the end of their life cycle. So i guess my question is, "Who do you use?" Needs to be new kit with a warranty. thanks all

I'd be interested in seeing a network map if that's at all possible? I think i'd like to use them on my edge, but not sure about it's ability as a core. What fault tolerance do you have on the XGs? cheers

"User folder" on desk only when clicking up arrow i file explorer.
Jaan posted a topic in Windows 10
Hi all, I'm in the final stages of configuring the GPOs for Windows 10 LTSB. Just having a click about double checking the security and access, and stumbled across the below issue. Not sure is it's correct behaviour or a "feature" as i've hidden the folder from "desktop" view; When i open file explorer to "this pc"; and click on the "up" arrow next to the "back" or "forward" arrows, i see the following screen; Clicking on the user folder i get the following screen; Click on a folder in there (pictures in this example), it's clear i'm in the users local profile. I can't save anything here as it's all redirected; So i guess my question/s is, Do you guys have this behaviour? Can i somehow remove the users folder from appearing at all from that location (managed to remove the recycle bin via regedit gpo). Or can i disable the up arrow? if i click on the "desktop location from "this pc" the user folder doesn't appear, so i'm confused to why it does if i click "up" from "this pc" Cheers all. -
First of thanks for taking the time to read this and i need to apologise for my ignorance when it comes to offsite domain machines and vpn connections. We are currently using windows 7 and are actively moving to windows 10. We use a Sophos XG as a firewall and our admin team are the only members that have remote access via VPN. This is via a client that they run on their home unrestricted PCs. These are used to RDP into our server to perform out of hours maintenance etc. We have policies in please to restrict it's use. Our SLT team "needs" new laptops, but now i have to think of GDPR and the responsibility we have to make sure the provided and school owned Laptops are secure, locked down and used for purpose. (TPM, bitlocker restricted and authorised use) In a ideal scenario i'd like the laptop to behave just like onsite machines, with the GPOs configured to allow them to connect to their own wifi and printers. Is there a way that Win10 can connect to a onsite domain automatically from a logon AUP screen once connected to wifi ? After that i guess it would just be like an onsite laptop. Thanks for any info. cheers
