I keep it upto date however my top moment of the year came when a few teachers who were working as examiners came to me with the exam boards Java 6 requirement.....
-
Just got direct access working however I am not rolling it out until early next year when I have better encryption and remote management in place however... The thought of all the staff being able to work anywhere in the world makes me smile. Every time someone annoys me I know I have this in my back pocket to break to them in a few months. No silly sites to sign into, nothing to break.... just access..... to Evil!

I use print manager plus and there is an add on for that we use (thanks for reminding me btw!)

full 8.1 site here. Speedy Not one student has ever asked how it works surprisingly hardly any problems with older software

[sims] Report not pulling through new SLG username and passwords
robjduk posted a topic in MIS Systems
I have the following SLG / SIMS issue and although someone in my school has opened a ticket with Capita, I wonder if anyone has heard about this before and is aware of a quick fix... -User is sent to provisioning -User is provisioned correctly -Created in AD including correct group membership -When the report in SIMS is run which shows users their default username and password, it does not pull the data through, leaving me with a document with information missing My admin staff have been doing their nut over this for ages but they lacked the language skills to tell me what they were talking about so have largely ignored it until now but fancy getting in on track again. Suggestions welcome. Thanks -
Im fed up with direct access and am at the point where I just want to pay someone to make it work. Server reads fine, traffic seems to be hitting it externally but not working and its broken me. Can anyone recommend a company who have experience of installing this? I have external IP ready as well as servers to spare. Must stress I want someone who knows this tech, not just a place which will have a go at it. Thanks

big help thanks. No idea what is going on with my data admin people. I can see them in SIMS as provisioned as well as seeing them in AD along with groups required. To be honest I am fairly sure they do not know how to do their jobs correctly however without learning the role myself I can not prove it. Thanks again.

Hello, Can anyone tell me how to check in SIMS if a user has been provisioned in SLG please (as in exactly what to press). I can see users being provisioned however my data admin keeps complaining they "don't show up on her system" but have no idea what she is talking about. Thanks all

Defender alongside User account control is perfect for all but the most heavy users.

I was kinda after something a little more high tech Easy transfer used to do it so well...
-
So just realised that easy transfer is on it's way out with the dawn of 8.1 which is a shame as we used it all the time to exchange damaged laptops over quickly. Anyway does anyone have a suggestion for a good replacement? Im going to maybe get my powershell hat on and look at it that way but before I do this, wonder if anyone else has this cracked. Thanks

Yes I see a lot of mixed comments on here so its far from confirmed. I used to use it years ago and loved the interface but it did cause a day of problems for us. Currently have Kaspersky but would love a fresh start as I inherited my current setup as well as Kaspersky taking the smeg on their pricing when compared to everyone else. Thanks

Afternoon all, Looking at changing my Anti Virus to potentially Sophos and have been impressed with their cloud system and wonder if anyone else is on it who can share experiences. On the subject, does anyone else have a cloud based AV and what's your thoughts? I'm very much a fan of pushing everything I can out to the cloud rather than internal servers so this solution suits my plans perfectly. All opinions welcome. Thanks

Stone computers all day long. A nice 5 year warranty and nice looking kit.

I am trying to get direct access working and hit a small bump so wondering if someone can help... I have a server setup and it claims it is working (green ticks everywhere) and a client with the group policy applied to it however it will not connect from outside the building. Due to a bad experience with direct access a while ago I am abit worried about the group policy so have only applied the server one to the server hosting direct access. Do I need to roll this group policy out to every server including domain controllers to get this working? I am currently looking on some help pages and it claims it will be looking for the workplace DNS which I hoped would work using the DA server as a gateway however wonder if the policy needs to be applied to all servers to allow them to give data over to a remote client. Any of that make sense? thanks all.

Second that. Looks a great gaming laptop.

Can someone answer me a AMD CPU question please? When virtualising on a desktop with an AMD processor, how many logical processors would you end up with? I understand with Intel's Hyper threading you get each physical core split into two but cant find a straight answer for AMD. If I had a bulldozer for example with 8 logical cores, would I get 16 available to me or just 8? The AMD website talks a good talk but just cant get my head around this. Hope some of this makes sense to someone. Thanks

An ATI card with eyeinfinity will make it happen for about £120. I have 3 27" monitors at work but cant remember the card I have at the moment.
-
If you are super PC gaming fan then there is no graphics card on any mac which will cut it for me (especially at the 27" res). Yes the onboard will cope for now but I doubt it will cut it at the top level however if you just want the odd game and are not too bothered with seeing blades of grass 40 miles into the distance, get an iMac. To be honest I am a super Windows wh*re but if they released what I would class as a gaming grade iMac I would get one.

8 all day long. fast, secure and tons of nice little touches you will find as you go on.
-
maybe OP should change the question to a way to keep a laptop awake that a teacher will be ar*ed to do
-
my man fixed it. It was because we were on Mountain lion. Moved to mavericks and all was well.

Hello all, Here is my scenario and would really welcome some help with it please... -Windows Server 2012 R2 with NFS role installed and NFS share created -Can not get any iMac on my network including the server to pick up the share Although I would say I am competent with macs, I am no wiz and keep finding sites claiming I need piles of terminal code to mount this drive so what I am looking for is clear instruction on what to open and what to type to get this mount to work. With summer ticking on we have only just realised the latest Final Cut does not allow network saving and I am strongly opposed to local file saves if I can get away with it. Thanks

Evening, Deduplication in 2012 is amazing however I have purposely left it off on the hard drive holding my user's profiles. No doubt there is a lot to be saved here but figured files which are due to be accessed a lot during the day should not be messed with. Has anyone had experience having deduplication on their profile location or do you think I am wise to leave it well alone. Profile corruptions have been a pain in the past so don't want to cause any more issues with them.

Would you recommend securus?
robjduk replied to dany2010's topic in Network and Classroom Management
I know it is available as a rack mounted server which is why it angers me every time I look at that stupid desktop box they gave me. I also know of the VM option but although I praised their support overall, I am certain any issue with the system would then become "an issue with the hardware".
