Hi all, Are rack mounted 24 or 48 port PoE injectors still a thing? I assume I need to change a switch out to a PoE one to do what I want to do but a 1U, 48 port injector in each cabinet would sort out everything i need but after an initial search they look like old hat nowadays. Ta all

randomly figured it out... Added task sequence variable with OSSKU and a value of ENTERPRISE... apparently LTSB does not set it's self as Enterprise and bitlocker only works if it is that or business...

Afternoon all, Has something changed in Win 10 for bitlocker? All my 8.1 encrypt perfectly however the same MDT builds the 10 image perfectly but just skips past bitlocker without an error. A minor annoyance and wonder if someone can share some knowledge with me. Using LTSB 2016 but know bitlocker is there as you can sign in as an admin and do it. Ta all

Don't mean to annoy anyone but the "lets just stick with SIMS" attitude is what is causing all the problems. Some really good looking solutions out there so at least look at them and how they fill your requirements before committing to SIMS.

I seem to remember our 100 seat creative cloud was about £1700 a year. Not great but it is nice to be able to advertise we have the latest software.

I block dropbox here. We offer both google docs and onedrive and block on the grounds we dont want them using personal accounts to access files where we have viable systems available.

All SMTP traffic is filtered through and that is whats being blocked. Only official sch.uk addresses and 365 is allowed via the connection. They have it water tight.

Morning Edugeek(ers), Looking for some professional opinions from the community on my current conundrum... My situation is this... -We have a third party till system for our student canteen. -The school would like to use an option where if a student gets low on credit, the parent is informed by email. -The company in charge of this have run into an issue where their @btconnect email account is blocked by our ISP (the ISP is run for education only and have no personal issue with them blocking it). -The company have asked if the school will provide an email address for them to use as it will get through the ISP filters. Sounds fair enough so far right?... -The company will run this through "Windows Live Mail". -The reason for the above is they use some third party email software to "manipulate" the data before it goes out which modern mail software like Outlook and 365 block. (I assume for good reason). Now I know I can give them an email account and this will work however the network manager side of me is screaming not to comply with a company who use such dated software. My fear is if this is their approach to providing a modern system then what is their approach to security? I realise a domain user account credentials won't get anyone far but to me these tills seem a good entry point should someone want to cause my network some grief and am very hesitant to proceed. Do you think I am worrying about nothing or would you flinch when you hear a large multinational company recommend using windows live mail? All opinions very welcome. Thanks

The look and feel of it was that of the server manager but cant find any reference to the password manager I used a while back. I know its there because I used it to change complexity requirements on our SLG users. I must be missing a plugin somewhere but short of RSAT, i dont know what it could be.

I know this is a thing but can not find it anywhere..... Can someone remind me where the password manager for Windows networks is please? Its like the server manager and allows you to change password settings for certain OU objects. I had it a year or 2 back but now I need to amend things I can not find it for the life of me. It was definitely part of Windows and thought it came down in RSAT as part of the active directory administrative center. Im not talking about group policy setting of rules, this was to manage password complexity and nothing else. Driving me nuts that I cant find reference to it but didn't dream it! Thanks

Turns out (and only just fixed)... it was some permission problem with DFS shares. Totally mental though as a user could sign in correctly one time but 2 minutes later on exactly the same account on exactly the same computer it would fail. - - - Updated - - - thanks for all suggestions by the way.

no gpo has changed other than changes to attempt to fix this. I will try plugging some directly into the core today but it sometimes happens to my VM's and im directly into the core ta all

dcdiag and similar all come back clean and not a good switch person myself but have an HP certified guy in tomorrow. Other than that, no events in the logs, random computers accros the site including wireless clients on different vlans. Tried setting static addresses, disabling ip6, increasing the wait for network time to 90 seconds and nothing... honestly its mad. You login and its fine. Restart the machine and sign in with the same account and the desktop will not have redirected. Happening over 8.1 and 10 clients to both staff and student logins. Really put a downer on my summer so far Ta all so far. Just hope my engineer can shed a little light on it tomorrow for me.

event logs say everything is peachy and not to worry but its all going wrong It just randomly happened one afternoon and really clutching at straws Even to the point where we went and unplugged the 20 computers we put in on the day it happened incase there was some WOL packets being sent out by the hardware.

Hello, Got a huge problem at the moment where half the machines dont load profiles or group policies but its not localised to a certain computer, switch, DC etc.... Long story short, all Windows servers are happy but found putting a search into Google for "spanning tree login issues" brings huge results. Have asked my support company to remove spanning tree in a vague hope it cures the issue. My question is does anyone think I could be right? They are not convinced but after 3 days they are no nearer fixing it and becomming desperate. Thanks

yeah you are right. It wouldn't add licences to the current crop as such and students would have to sign in on the workstation to licence it which would be a pain however if they would fancy having students sign in and use the browser based version you wouldnt even need to install office on the desktops. A little drastic but viable imo.
