Hello all, I am planning to move to GMail split email delivery on Friday (MX records in place to be moved and routing to onsite exchange booked). I paid for a Google partner to write me up a guide so wasn't worried about it, however now its close (and still in time to reverse it) I thought about the route mail will take and figured there is nothing in place for my exchange to know who is onsite and who is not. To confirm, this is how I see it working... incoming mail -MX record sends to gmail - deliverers if gmail box found - if no gmail box found, routes mail to onsite exchange (this is all in place and ready to go, happy with this part) My problem comes when someone onsite sends mail to a group where some are gmail and some are onsite. How will I tell it where to route the mail (exchange 2013)? I looked it up and am more confused than I was before as there seem so many conflicting ways to do it and am struggling to find a clear guide on what to do and what box to put it in. 1: Do I setup a send connector to google, disable my previous send connector and change exchange to an internal relay (under accepted domains). 2: Do I go down the alias setup route and if so whats the best way? 3: Short term, as I only plan to move myself and the other two techs over to start with, I could setup a rule to push mail sent to us to our test gmail domain to at least have it get to us for now but need the long term figured out. Want to move my students over this summer. 4: Other? Does anyone have a clear guide to what I need to setup. There is still time to get this all in place and excited to do so. Annoyed this has been left out the guide I paid for but at least I have caught it early enough to sort it out. If anyone knows what I need to do or can point me to a clear guide I would be very appreciative. Thank you

Has anyone got experience of Viglen chromebooks? They come with 3 year warranty and im considering them for summer.

We use alot of Acer ones because they are cheap however finding spare parts for them is almost impossible. Also if you consider Prowise, know they are great machines at a low cost but their warranty is a pain with months before you get the thing back.

so? Bottom line... If you want a trouble free environment, install LTSB. If you want to make your life a pain then go full version and let me know how things go the day you walk into everyone screaming at you because its decided to install a huge feature update.

Hi all, Totally clutching at straws here but wondering if anyone has had a problem with SLG where reports are not showing. The parent just gets "sorry the information you require is not available". Reports are published and everything seems to be ticking over. Running the latest version as well... I have Capita looking into this but think they are not sure either and just want it off my desk so asking the community on the off chance someone says "oh, install this update to fix that" or something along those lines. SLG is a curse upon this school but the quicker it works the quicker I can go back to ignoring it. Thanks all

I renewed mine with a company called Haptic. They came in £2000 cheaper than the other 2 I tried.

LTSB all the way and never going back. No apps, no start menu problems, no coming in to find a huge feature has deployed and crippled every computer in the school. Deploy LTSB, setup automatic security updates and sit back for 10 years to relax. Literally don't have any Windows issues anymore. Also being a Google Doc school we dont need to worry about FoD.

Hi, As the title says, is it safe to go into the SQL management and shrink the SIMS database? I was given some patches however they don't work and was eager to sort this out over the weekend where possible. Not sure I see a downside but best to check. Thanks

well we don't as such. Our default web filtering is set to year 7 content and we are confident its safe along side restricted DNS for Youtube. Being a year 7 policy, all social media and email other than ours is blocked so don't expect any issue with safeguarding. Seems to work well.

We use Meraki's guest network settings with no password or even popup. Our head just wanted it as open and easy to use as possible and its still filtered safely via our lightspeed anyway. It helps because someone somewhere always has a device which dosnt like the popup screen (im looking at you kindle fire hd and Windows S with edge!).

I encourage departments to setup their own team drives then using Google file stream they can drag and drop resources easily across to the team drive from the old windows share.

You're right it should make things easier but just does not. Why was it such a pain to arrange tiles in W8? Why did it take years and not months to be able to set a company wide taskbar in W10? I rolled out some powerpoint updates a week ago which crashed it when opening from a network location! And dont get me started with Technet.... happy to find someone else with my issue when the official response will be "run updates" while endless posts underneath saying it still does not work before you notice the thread is 3 years old and there is no fix for your problem. I went to a 365 session at a local Microsoft company a few months back and didn't mean to but really went off on one about how irritating 365 is to manage when compared to Google products. How you need powershell scripts to licence users however they don't give you these scripts and instead make you trapse through random websites to adapt other peoples code.... or I just run the Google sync and it just works. I'm stripping the last of 365 out my school and glad we didn't go in further. Sorry to rant OT a little but if I had the option I would remove MS from my school and use iPads or Chromebooks. Windows S is far to little too late for me.

Exactly the same setup here and even use it on my work laptop. No apps, no surprise updates and just 10 years of security updates. Once I got it working with start menu and taskbar layout for staff (a faff but done now) I sit back and relax in the knowledge I dont really have to worry about updating Windows for years to come. Do yourself a favour and go LTSB mate. Removes 95% of the network managers hassle.

Not traditional educational IT as such but my school has our heating controlled by a box from a company called Allen Martin and we are having connectivity issues with it. After about 1 hour it loses connectivity and we can not ping it with the only fix turning it off and on again (lol). Problem is the controls have now been moved from the caretakers office to a boiler room the other side of the site so this problem as now come to light (been going on years apparently) so now the finger is being pointed at the IT network as the cause. I don't mind this but not a fan of random engineers saying "its ya network mate" without really telling me anything else. Also their software only works with IE so that tells you all you really need to know about how modern their stuff is. Has anyone had experience of this hardware (eco hub 2) or ever ran into a similar piece of hardware which works for a while then loses connectivity before? I'm of the thinking if it turns on and works for a while its not IT related as it either works or wouldn't but open to all suggestions. I have done various normal things such as setting the switch to 10 or 100 modes in both full and half duplex, moving to different switches, changing cables and even had an external IT company check the switch configs over to see if anything is causing issues. I also figured out the admin credentials and telnet into the back of it to give it the once over. I found the date to be years out and hoped fixing that would sort it but alas it's still happening. thanks but im talking dangerously cheaper. like tracing paper over the screen would do a better job cheaper. I dont mind spending out on them normally but someone just annoyed me so cheap and nasty is the motto of the job.

someone in my school wants to kit a room with 4 screens out with them. Its gonna cost best part of £400 and bet they wouldn't even use them. Im tired of hearing "oh I put them on when students are in the room"

you put laptops out because less faff for teachers and they can take them home to do work if they want to. Any of you who insist on desktops in classrooms need to move profession to something which does not require you to learn new skills. Move with the times people.
