  1. Is the posted document additional cut? As I read it, it says the HT grant is down to 100million instead of 150million. So was it 200m of spending before?

BSF - The results are in

I would have chuckled if our osp in rutland was scrapped, final fit out (when we get the keys) happens in October and it's virtually complete from a structure point of view. On another point, I think we'll open just at the right point with regards to the pain the government is going to pass on to the public, hopefully we'll be able to weather the impending storm the cuts will bring to ict Sadly not all schools will be so lucky
  3. past it on to my other tech(i have a huge workload!), downloaded drivers from tosh and now its all good, the U400 was a seperate issue. the thing is it couldn't see any networks when you looked for them which was a little weird.
  4. Anyone encountered wireless issues on windows 7/vista since the latest round of windows updates? I only ask as i approved updates on friday after everyone left. Yesterday this one laptop was working fine, (VP typical!!!) and she installed the updates at the end of the day, she came in today and now she has no wireless networks visible? Laptop in question is a Toshiba U500 windows 7 with a realtek RTL8191SE WLAN 802.11n wifi card inside. going to see if new drivers sort it out, but thought i would see if anyone is experincing the same problem? (also heard rumors of a teacher with a U400 and VISTA with the same problem, but its not been reported to me yet!)
  5. I think there is a thread in the spiceworks community 50k spread over many sites I think is the largest? What u would probably do is set it up collectors on multi servers.
  6. Our last ofsted was good with outstanding features, we are on the 2nd list. We were very aware even before the election that our head was in favour of independent from LA schools as he had signed the letter from heads that appeared in the papers (although I dont think anyone signing it expected it to be made so public) We've been assured that there is no intention to change terms of staff contracts, although there have been some concerns how being independent from the local authority will effect support staff pensions as surely they'll no longer be employed by the local authority and won't be able to pay into LA schemes?
  7. Just thought i would update this thread with our One school Pathfinder. Rutlands OSP IT contract is with XMA although it will be managed in house by my team (thank god!)
  8. it could be bbc iplayer that is struggling, we have access to a backup line that is on its own ISP and iplayer is stuttering even on that and only a handful of people have access to it. (we have no kids on wednesday afternoons from 2.15 so i know its not them!)
  9. any chance of us poor cousins over in Old Leicestershire popping along too?
  10. i would atleast make sure they are covered under accidental damage, you get more damage than warranty repairs in the early years of secondary schools. the older students seem to be alot better from our experience when we ran a scheme 4 years ago. also make it very clear what level of support YOU are providing.
  11. it was never unlimited though 1gb fair use policy
  12. could always compare vodafone? three? orange? i would never downgrade from a 4g (3gs user atm) sadly i have to wait
  13. I've recently had a trial of both meru and ruckus. Personally I felt the 2 meru ap's coped alot better with the building (pic Vale of Catmose Colleges Fotos - The Current Site | Facebook ) they were providing access to. Where the ruckus wins is in the ease of use. The admin interface is simple but powerful. The meru interface feels a little complicated and was my issues, other than a kid stealing an antenae!!! Appeared after a few days thank god.
  14. Im kinda hoping our Multi Touch "UTouch" ALL in 1 Demo unit arrives so we can have a play. The original fell over in the lorry braking the screen! I Was also hoping to have more of an idea of what was happening over the summer holidays by now, but there seems to be a small hold up with our IT Contract for the new campus. anyone fancy planning for a xmas move of a school?
  15. Our Twitter at the mo, need a catmosecollege 1 though Catmose Arts (CatmoseArts) on Twitter spwilliams13 (spwilliams13) on Twitter facebook Vale of Catmose College | Facebook
  16. If he tried to worm his way out of it then yes, I would agree. We all make decisions in the heat of the moment. he took his punishment when caught. If people in authority don't learn from their mistakes then that's when you come down hard
  17. i guess she reads this forum
  18. 1 of our VP's and the 1 of Team Leaders went to vietnam, and were due to fly back on friday so i guess they are still stuck there and could be for another week by the sounds of it.
  19. Sorry Daniel, perhaps i didn't make myself clear enough. I dont think any hardware gets piled up but what i do feel and what I have heard is that various technologies are not being used for various reasons. great example from academies: Nottingham Djanogly(or how ever it was spelt) none of their Displays were working at the time our SLT went, another bug bare of mine was their power management strategy for their mobile devices was all wrong and a complete mess. another academy(sorry for being vague was a year ago), I believe they have a not cheap Video distribution system of some sort that hardly got used and once staff got over the "rabbits in headlights" effect from all the other tech the system was out of date and didn't meet their requirements. As where the fault lies..... i dont think its 1 part of the whole process that fails, just little bits here and there. Consultants, School management, LA, government, MSP's although i suppose at the end of the day it comes down to policy. staggering the tech into the school might help reduce the "must spend now" mentality. hell if you are allowed to do it pre-completion as part of CPD, creating these experimental spaces with 100k budgets and so on, i am pretty sure you could allow a budget for post completion install of IT Services to allow for proper time to be spent on CPD and planning on those systems 12 months down the line.
  20. I think the reason it takes time to settle Down, is that these projects are so massive and the changes for most are huge leaps beyond what they had before it can often take people time to work out how best to use what's available to them. Rabbits in headlights springs to mind. Going through the one school pathfinder myself the biggest flaw in the whole process is that you get all these shiney new things when the campus opens. I feel there needs to be some flexibilty In how the it money is spent. Allow a small amont to be held back, so that some systems can be implemented over a year or so from opening as part of a ongoing flexible development plan as needs chAnge. I wonder how much tech has been purchased that has sat their unused because of the "must" spend now mentality as it's our last chance of significant investment for years to come. Hope this makes sense, on my iPhone as my charger just died for my laptop! Roll on September/Xmas!
  21. Would like to confirm awaiting on the outcomes of our IT Tender process before I can commit.
  22. Was my exact words when I emailed my techs the same link
  23. With moving to a new building late this year, and anyone who knows about new buildings is they seriously lack storage space. or so that i can steal some of their space for my junk Looking for a hardware/software solution to simplfy Archiving our finance departments paperwork with the option of extending this to other areas of the college (i think PDF is a must). Anyone do this already and have any recommendations?
  24. While enjoying my lunch break today i got asked to go to SLT. no problems as it was the room next door. anyway they all start talking about why is there a problem with emails to our new domain name (had it since mid 2009) they had recieved a number of emails(from our website contact us form) and telephone calls saying emails had been bouncing. Ofcourse this was the 1st I had heard. (and obviously in my head i was saying ffs if you knew about it why not pass on the reports to me, you know the person who could fix the problem.) anyway i said i would look into the issue. most sensible place to start seemed to be hotmail as i had a personal account. sent myself an email to my college domain name, and success.... sent the college manager and email to her college email........ success sent her another email.... FAILED! sent another email..... FAILED! sent her another email.... Success!!!!!! delivery report was as follows: Reporting-MTA: dns;blu0-omc3-s36.blu0.hotmail.com Received-From-MTA: dns;BLU140-W7 Arrival-Date: Thu, 25 Feb 2010 06:23:58 -0800 Final-Recipient: rfc822;[email protected] Action: failed Status: 5.5.0 Diagnostic-Code: smtp;553 sorry, that domain isn't in my list of allowed rcpthosts (#5.7.1) so wtf is this all about? any ideas would be grealy appreciated. i really dont understand why 50% of the emails have been sending....... dont know if this is a wider problem or just a hotmail issue.
