I'm using it a bit, seems quite good and more flexible then using AD. It's not however a golden bullet, it took me quite a while for instance to get it to deploy CS4 properly. For some reason the installer wouldn't work from a network location, even with a drive letter set. Ended up configuring it to copy the deployment files to the work station and run them from there.

We have hardly any machine with floppy drives. We've only needed one twice. Once when I was messing with ghost booting, and once when a DT teacher passed me a digital camera and asked have you got a card reader for this, it was a Sony Mavica. Oddly my Core2Quad pc does have one.

What's a good cheap as chips 35mm SLR that take M42 lens. I'd quite like one to have a play with, quite like a idea of getting some fast film and shooting some local music events. My D60 isn't great at high ISOs and it's a bit too valuable to be taking out on the lash. My little FUJI s1500 is dire at high ISOs (anything above 400 is more like a disapointing special effect.). EDIT: I realise I won't get AF, but what about metering and auto exposure?

If you want to do stuff in low light the D5000 is much better, it uses the same sensor as the higher end Nikon D90 and D300. The D3000 uses an older sensor and is very similar to it's predesors the D60 and the D40X. I was looking into Nikon and bought a used D60 from Mifsuds (for about £100 less then a new D3000). It's not refurbished, but it was as new (only done 1400 actuations, the compact I'd bought at Christmas has done more). Mifsuds

There's no Konica Minoltas here , what sort of issues did you have with PCounter. We actualy purchased it a few years and then management desided to backtrack on the idea so it was never implemented. It's going to cost us about £400 to update our license, which I'd assume would be a lot cheaper then starting from scratch with Papercut.

We do have figures, how many credits do you give your students?

We're going to start running PCounter. How many credits do you generaly give your students, and which other restrictions do you apply? What do you do when students feel they need more credits, has it caused a rise in accout sharing?

You will need 3 aps to support that many laptops. Bare in mind that the 56mb/s bandwidth for wireless is shared between all the laptops on the same AP. So if you managed to get 15 laptops on an AP they'd only have about 4mb/s bandwidth. There are many users on here who invest thousands in good managed wireless, I doubt they'd do it if they could achive the same result using a couple of £25 APs.

To be honest if you want to be able to use that number of laptop reliably in a small space you will need a managed wireless system. And you will probably need 3 aps. Look at Aruba and Ruckus.

My own feeling is the first thing people should do is lobby fuel companies to print a tax breakdown on all their receipts. I suspect if they did this we'd see a return to the blockades within a few months. But really most of the recent increases are down the value of the pound heading south.

We've never had any issues either, this sounds more like an issue with your supplier. Next time you buy an HP server, look here, and get the part numbers for all the correct kits. The proper HP hard drive kit always has a caddy, the proper HP CPU kit always has a heatsink and extra fan. It looks like your supplier has sold you bog standard OEM hard drives and a processor. Did you ask them for parts for an HPDL360 or did you ask them for a Xeon whatever and some SAS hard drives. If it's the former and this is specified on the quote then tell them you're returning the good because they're 'unfit for purpose' and then buy the proper kit.

If the failing update is KB974417, you need to uninstall KB976569 (go to add remove programs and tick show updates), then install KB974417, then reinstall KB976569.

I've just installed it on my Vista machine and told it to remove all faults. It rebooted and said OS Not Found, I think it works quite well.

Open office can export MS Office files. If you determined not to install open office on your own machine then tell the kid to go home and export it as a powerpoint file. We get asked for the convert OpenOffice files about once a month, so I have open office on my PC for this purpose.

I have been driven by someone who went from 1st to 3rd to 5th. Very odd.

I was taught to go down the gears but not to bother going down to 1st until I'd stopped. However I then had lessons in my Mum's ancient Polo which sometimes needed to be change down to 1st on some occasions. At the end of the day you need to learn to get a feel for how a particular likes to be driven. If you work on the basis I always change up from this gear to that gear at this speed you're doing it wrong. I was quite lucky in this respect since by the time I'd been driving for 3 years I'd probably driven 8 different vehicles. This ranged from the aformentioned Polo, to a 2.8 litre turbo diesel Renault Trafic (with a towing gear box) where first was only used on steep inclines or when heavily laden. You would normaly pull away in second.
