Have you made sure you're using motherboard manufacturer's drivers for the sound card and not some windows generic ones. Are there any disabled devices listed in device manager.

Just trying this, managed to pick the school's slowest laptop.

Thanks guys, I'll have a look. We're using design standard.

I would like to chip in the I have the current problem, and have tryed the following with no success; Deleting the local updates database as Laserblazer suggested. Removing .net and letting WSUS reinstall it. Removing .net, cleaning it with the .net cleanup utility. Rebuilding the PC. Getting really cross, and then a bit emotional.

Error log, not very helpful.

Adobe Creative Suite 4 - Adobe Developer Connection Obviously it would be installed on every machine and not ran from a share, but doing a manual deployment on each machine is not an option we're looking at over 100 workstations.

Pretty awful, food gets prepared hours in advance and kept warm. It's also mostly bought in rather then cooked on site. I don't know why everyone raves about Jamie Oliver's impact on school dinners. One of his key arguments was that dinner ladies weren't cooking from fresh ingredients but instead using preprepared foods. This doesn't seem to have changed.

I'm trying to deploy CS4. So far I've coppied the DVDs onto our server, merging the Payloads and Extensions folders from the two discs. I then created a deployment with CD4 deployment toolkit. The AdobeUberInstall works fine except it doesn't install inDesign. I'm assuming this is because InDesign is from the second DVD and I need to edit something so the installer expects to find all the installation files in the same location. Now I'm sure the adobe instructions will tell me how to do this, but sadly whoever wrote them was obviously being paid by the word. Because there is no other explanation why the instrctions should be in 5 documents running over 50 pages each. Anyone already been through this?

Which version do I need for testing the Halon system? -
Does your DT department have a laser cutter? We use one to mark our laptops, much neater then selectamark, I'm not sure if it'll work with alu, but it's worth a try.

If there's any left before the post goes I'll bung one in a jiffy bag.

Have you inspected the connections at both ends. Have you tried using something none POE on it? I had issues with a cable run where the four pairs had been placed next to each other instead of having the two central pairs inside each other. Because the same mistake had been made on both ends it was fine on my basic tester but wouldn't carry any data. I can't imagine couplers causing any issues unless they're faulty.

What sort of switches are they? Is it a new setup that's always had problems or an exisiting setup that's suddenly stopped working.

You could look at using Terminal Services, possibly with the addition of something like this, Free 3 application license of 2X ApplicationServer

How many machines, you could use NewSid to change the sid on the second partition. Have you asked on here about getting this particular piece of software working, dual boot sounds like a complete pain in the neck. You'll probably get called into the room every time they want to use the software because the students are too daft too follow the instructions.

Excellent stuff guys, now to get playing.

Hi, I've got a laptop with a few yellow ? in device manager. I can't work out what the heck they're for (all the storage and motherboard drivers are there). Can someone remind me of the name of the handy tool that lets you look up exactly what driver it needs.

Mostly from the pub, but some times the local supermarket. My nearest off licence only stocks white lightening and fizzy lager.

It depends on the department, if they're willing to pay the running costs they can have it.
