I thought there was a tick box in the process for 'Supervise'. If you have that ticked, maybe as it is failing to complete it doesn't do that bit either?

Well, the student teacher in question popped their head around the door of my office this morning... They thanked me for the laptop, but wondered why they couldn't access the planning folder over the weekend whilst they were at home! When I explained that there is no connection between the server and her house (honestly I'm OK with that as why would they know), they seemed a little confused but I carried on regardless explaining that if they wanted to work on things at home from the server, it needs copying on to the desktop. More confusion, regarding what a 'desktop' was (yes, a 'desktop' is a style of 'computer' so I understand the confusion) and if they brought the laptop to me at lunchtime could I show them how to do it... So, this will be a fun lunchtime watching them struggle to tap the mouse pad twice to open a folder (it's a skill not everyone has apparently)... I think I'm going to go with right-click > copy & right-click > paste, to try avoid all sorts of drag and drop chaos.

I have been asked to install some software on our print server to provide toner levels to our support provider. In the instructions it says that I have to assign a static MAC address to the Virtual Server: "Please note if you are using a Virtual Server you will need to make sure the MAC address is set to static as by default a VM has a dynamic MAC address, if it is left as dynamic this will cause the software to go offline as it binds the licence code to the MAC." So, I am going to remote in tonight and shut down the Virtual Server. On the Host I go Hyper-V Manager > Select Server > Setting > Network Adapter > Advanced Features > Choose 'Static' - restart the server... Is there any reason anything could go wrong with this, or anything I need to look out for?

In the end I just uninstalled the AGENT from the SOLUS GUI and then reinstalled it, re-adding it as a TARGET. I guess that made SOLUS look at DNS again, with the AGENT now sending the correct details. As soon as the AGENT was installed it started updating SIMS. EDIT: I guess as I was mucking about trying to diagnose the issue with updating SIMS over the VPN it had been confused with the VPN IP address.

A little bit late to the party as always! Anyway, I've been forced into doing the Autumn SIMS update last night and came in this morning to mostly positive results so far... A few workstations haven't done the update yet - from what I can see they were some of the first ones on the list that SOLUS 3 tried last night, so may have gone to the back of the queue (if that is indeed the way SOLUS works). So, just 1 issue so far... - My work laptop is refusing to update and when I use the agent to check it says 'no DNS entries exist for host'... There could be a reason for how this has happened... Last night I was trying to get my work laptop to update SIMS over our VPN (and failing miserably) so I made some changes to various things, but I'm pretty sure I backed them all out when it didn't happen (I'm not entirely sure what I need to make this work). But this is when it started happening and it doesn't seem to have cleared now I'm back in school. So where is SOLUS looking for when it says DNS entries (does it keep its own records or does it do a look up every time), how often does it look and how can I force it. I have done ipconfig /flushdns. release, renew on the laptop and rebooted, checked the DNS entry for it exists on the server, everything else seems fine. The SOLUS agent sees it as online and responds to 'status check' and 'get target version'...

Have they released a new set of updates that don't have Hyper-V, DC reboot or ReFS issues?

Can't be much help here as I had a similar problem a while back, but never really fixed it as it was just a minor annoyance and didn't really seem to break anything. Not helped by the fact that DHCP was not being done on the servers, but by the switches... Is it that Google eats up those cookies as well...? The message isn't specifically saying that 'you' use cookies on your site to do those things, but that Google does 'to deliver its services and to analyze traffic'.

Am I right in thinking that iPads over a certain age cannot be added to DEP/ASM...? How old are your iPads? For our older ones I enrolled them in Meraki manually (bit of a pain but we didn't have that many).

Wouldn't there have also been a massive surge in reporting over the holidays as people were advised to take LFT before mixing (and we know people are doing as they are asked)? This in turn led to the shortage of test kits available... This will have obviously dropped off dramatically now.

Good point, but in all honesty though, they probably call their OH or child who is 'better with technology' (not everyone knows that a Sky box can be rebooted)... My OH has even text me at work one day to complain about the internet being down (to be fair she does WFH)... Then sent me a video of the lights flashing on the front... My answer 'turn it off and on again'... I'm sure she knows this, but sometimes people need reminding or the confidence to do it. Some teachers need telling once and you never hear from them again, some ask the same thing every week... it's a 'people' thing not a 'teacher' thing. However it might just be that teachers just have a high proportion of that type of person...? I always like to think of them as adults that never left school... It is a little bit like asking why they leave dirty coffee cups in the sink, why they leave the lights/speakers/projector on, why they don't lock up the iPad trolley, why they don't take any responsibility for smashing their laptop screen... would they do that at home?

My Windows Update is being a bit strange as well as I can see KB5006714 in the installed updates history, but it isn't available in 'Installed Updates'... KB5008263 is in both... Are you able to download them from the Microsoft Catalog... Have you researched each update to see if there is a prerequisite?

Similar to something I used to do... when we first got iPads years ago I was told to go round after school and check every trolley making sure they were plugged in, charging... oh and also to make sure they were all still there! Well, that soon came to an abrupt halt when after school one day I found that one was missing... children had all gone home (as had most of the teachers). SLT had to join me in turning the class upside down, but we didn't find it. Next day children were questioned, bags and lockers searched.... turns out a teacher from another year group had 'borrowed' it, forgotten and left it in their desk drawer. Needless to say SLT were quite accepting of my proposal to have the class teacher or TA be responsible for checking them before the children went home.

Yeah, some affected and some not, bit strange but I guess it is maybe a combination of roles/features or whether whatever kicks it of is triggered by something specific happening on the server...? Not sure if it works with downloaded updates (I have mine set to notify, not download), but I uninstalled it yesterday and it has just popped up on the server today to be installed again. Luckily it's 2012R2 so I'm just going to use right click and hide/show updates (not sure if that works on newer flavours).... actually will that also hide an updated version with a same KB number or will the fixed one have a different number... I might just leave it. As above it is impossible to know, some seem ok, other not...

Sure, but going from the link in the post from @clareq I have searched for 'screen' and not found any 'filling the screen-wash' questions. Semantics maybe, pedantic... possibly, but I'm just going on the evidence. In fact it may also help my cause... Basic IT skills are not trained in any teacher training and are not a requirement to get the job. Just as when I took my test it wasn't required to know how to do basic safety checks on the vehicle (or follow a sat-nav, or do a computer test for that matter). I know times have changed etc. but as someone pointed out teacher training hasn't much... If they aren't a 'requirement' of the job, you cannot hold anyone culpable for not having them (as someone else has said - no more than any other member of 'joe public')... If they are unwilling to learn then that is what you would call a people problem, maybe a certain type of person, or a demographic maybe more inclined not to have them or not want to learn (as well as dealing with everything it takes to be a teacher). EDIT: What do you mean... 'teachers' are the demographic...?
