Ah, ok I see. We don't use it like that. Each teacher laptop has Cisco AnyConnect (aka LGfL - Freedom2Roam) installed on their laptop and the module for pre Windows authentication to the VPN (Cisco AnyConnect Start Before Login Module). It was set-up so that once the laptop is started up, if they use that to sign into the VPN and then sign into Windows, it appears that the laptop is actually on the Domain**. If they are an LGfL school, the support site will be able to help you. **EDIT: Should clarify... it works as if the laptop is on-site in the school (so they have access to everything they would at school).

I have now supplied the OH with a slanket, hat and fingerless gloves ( ) as we are having radiators moved in the next couple of weeks and for some reason (ease and cheapest way probably) the installers put the original ones up on all the internal walls and even missed out putting one in the hall - which is a big external wall and is always cool (even in Summer) so freezing in Winter. That will mean a fair amount of water used and the heating having to go on to test... We are also getting new glass put in the windows (previous ones were installed 20+ years ago and most have blown) and as the frames are 'ok' it should work out at roughly £1K instead of £5 or £6K to have the whole lot replaced.

We use Cisco AnyConnect (VPN) for remote access (supplied with our LGfL connection bundle which handles the config and 2FA side of things). Are you the ICT support for the school, if not have you got any? This isn't something I would suggest doing without it (it can be complicated and has the potential for data breaches if not set-up correctly). Also, on that note, you would might need to consider updated AUPs as effectively a teacher could be connecting from an insecure location (or device depending on the route you take).

Yes, my OH has been WFH for the past couple of years and it looks like it will be permanent... apparently she needs a laptop and dual 27" monitors... and the heating on (anything below 20 degrees feeling a bit chilly allegedly) and the TV on for 'background noise'/important 'daytime TV' gossip/news! I know it might be difficult to explain to some teenagers and make them have any sense of monetary value, but maybe explain it in terms of if they continue to use excess electricity the TV package, X-Box/Playstation subscription, mobile phones, etc. will have to go! Unfortunately all the energy company has to go on is your previous usage...

Not sure what your current DD is (or your usage history), but even if you meant "increasing my DD to £368", that would mean a yearly spend of £4416 (£368*12). I'm dreading that email.... I'm with Scottish Power and may well be looking at a 'pay as you go' scenario... I am £300+ in credit and there is already a note on my account that I should increase my DD!!! Unfortunately I have a Gen1 'smart' meter (SMETS1) and it doesn't report to my supplier as we changed to a new supplier at the end of our fixed rate a few years ago (but they're 'working on it' apparently)... I still have the remote display though and it works. It can also run on batteries for those that are worried that the pennies it costs to run won't outweigh the savings made by measuring what each appliance uses (or those that have another means of doing so). So I used it a while ago to run around and turn things off, but honestly there wasn't much... I also pointed out to the OH how my microwave made coffee was more cost efficient than her kettle boiled cup of tea, which was received well...

Quick question (and hopefully one that has a quick and easy answer)... I've seen that Office 2021 LTSC ADMX are backwards compatible with all Office versions back to Office 2016 (apparently they are the same with just a few new ones added). If I add the latest ADMX will it overwrite any older versions but keep all the original settings? Or should I just copy them, choose no to overwrite and just keep the new ADMX?

Strange children and local admins can use but staff can't... Normally it's local admins can and everyone else can't! On a staff log-in can you check: File > Options > General > Privacy Settings or File > Options > Trust Center > Trust Center Settings > Privacy Options > Privacy Settings (why?)... Look for the 'Turn on optional connected experiences' and see if that is ticked or not. If it isn't ticked there might be a GPO setting for it.

After installing I opened Excel and noticed that I was 'signed-in' to a '[email protected]' account... There is no such Microsoft/Office 'account'... anyway I signed out (sure I've seen this before with other Office versions) and thought that would be the end of it as usual. However, it carried on signing me in every time I opened an Office application! After a bit of research I found Credential Manager in the 'Control Panel' in Windows and deleted the entry for Office, hoping that would be the end of it... Today I opened Excel and found it had signed me in with an email account (possibly from signing in to Outlook?)!! I want a standalone Office install, not an all signing and dancing cloud connected, files everywhere Office (which is why I chose LTSC 2021), the account it signed me in as isn't even a real thing we use as it's just a 3rd party email provider account... I don't want it being 'helpful' and stashing away possibly sensitive documents to some random account in the sky! How do I break these links?

Whilst using Outlook with Office 2016, I would sign in to each email account with the familiar grey authentication pop-up. At some point in September when we came back this changed. It still came up for one account (LGfL), but something else happened with the other accounts (itsLearning) possibly the difference is due to one back-end being Exchange and the other O365 (?), a small box appeared (like a mini browser window) with the itsLearning web log-in dialogue box ...? Not too much of an issue but annoying as the web dialogue box didn't specify which account you were logging in to! I asked itsLearning what had changed: "Our technical team has looked into this, and unfortunately there isn’t much we can do about this because this pop-up is generated by a third-party application. In general, when a product in the Microsoft suite has to open a webpage like this it has a hard-coded 'backdoor' to use the MS owned web browser that existed when it was made. That means this is almost certainly using an old version of edge from before they switched it to be chromium based, which hasn't been updated for several years at this point. The popup is meant for authenticating and everything within Outlook will work as expected." OK, so I took this on the chin (I like to sign-in to each account manually and never store credentials anyway), but thought that it was possibly a sign I should upgrade Office. Now, I have Edge (Chromium) and Office 2021 LTSC, but it is still popping up a small web browser sign-in box... is this right?

I'm thinking it is just for ease of recognition (I imagine there is a list being made of who used which laptop), once the laptops are given out and opened up, they could even do that from their teaching desk/front of class. The teacher can simply look at the laptops and see a clearly visible 4 digit reference number very easily. Otherwise it is 'line the children up, turn the laptop over, read a small serial number or asset tag (if they haven't been peeled/scratched off, scribbled over), send the child back to their desk....

I'd be worried the lid may be too thin for anything heat related (or at least hot enough to melt into the plastic - could get very messy too)... Before I joined here, they had used something called 'SelectaMark' which was used to chemically etch the postcode into all the things (I think the company is still around), you might be limited on what you can have for the stencil though. Dremel with a stencil sounds like a good option depending on how many you have to do (lets face it you wouldn't have to go too deep into the plastic to make a permanent mark after all - as we all know too well)!

Having the same issue after installing 2019 (which worked) and then deciding I might as well go to 2021! Outlook splash screen just sits there on 'Loading Profile'... Did you find a solution? EDIT: Never mind! I went to control panel and used the Mail setup (Outlook) to copy the original profile and named it Outlook New, then chose 'Prompt for a profile to be used' Started Outlook chose the 'New' profile and it came up OK... Strange thing is I've closed and opened it again... but this time chose the original profile and it has also worked...

I'll admit to keeping bulbs long after the projectors themselves had been scrapped, but I finally bit the bullet and cleared them out a couple of years ago when 99% of the classroom ones had been replaced. This is the last 'old' projector in the school (it has been going for at 11 years so far - but has never really had heavy use).

I believe that any 'dark colour' is acceptable funeral attire, most choose black but wearing dark grey or deep blue is just as appropriate (some have said he wanted to reflect his father's uniform, but I doubt anyone will ever really know)... Also I noticed the hearse (which the Queen had a hand in the design of - not the Scottish one from the Funeral Directors) was actually a dark red and not black. Apparently finished in 'Royal Claret', the same colour as the official royal and state vehicles kept in the Royal Mews at Buckingham Palace and used by Members of the Royal Family on official duties.

Need a bulb for a very old Epson EMP-S4 (part ELPLP36). The projector/bulb has only really lasted so long as it is in an ICT suite that only gets used a few times a day (and before the recent 'we have to start teaching computing a bit better' revelation... once or twice a week if that). Funny isn't it... I ended up doing them manually... It took 10 minutes as opposed to the hour or two I spent researching how to do it in Powershell... and all the random folders I ended up creating all over the place... For small jobs (which is all I ever really do) learning Powershell has always seemed like overkill (and I know I suffer from the fact that in such a small environment it is nearly always quicker to do something manually than it is to work out how to automate it). Then someone drops a 1 line CMD (to my credit I had tried something similar but couldn't get it to work for some reason)... which puts me off Powershell even more and reinforces my imposter syndrome no end! Hi, It's 'Performance Management' time again and I've been asked to create a new folder (2022 2023) for all staff within their own folder in the 'Performance Management' folder. Seems like it should be easy by I'm struggling.... Structure of the folder is as follows: F:\Staff\Performance Management Staff Folders\Teacher 1\ Currently they have a 2019 2020 folder and a 2021 2022 folder, so I need to create a 2022 2023 folder in each 'Teacher' folder. I had a script that originally created all the staff folders from a .csv that I thought I could modify but... So far the first line is this (which I have found to get the folder names and create a .csv - originally I just had a .csv with staff names) : # Create list of folders Get-ChildItem 'F:\Staff\Performance Management Staff Folders' | Select-Object name | Export-Csv -path C:\Data\folders.csv -NoTypeInfo Which is OK, but also returns the name of a few files as well as the folders, I can manually edit the .csv and remove them but to automate the whole thing I need to exclude those or find a 'Select-Object' that only pulls folder names. It may also have affected Senso, SIMS deployments, PDQ Deploy and Follow-me, Lightspeed Relay and also SCCM deployments, file transfers, OneDrive/O365 downloads and other software like Target Tracker.
