For me it has to be Evernote. The way you can clip pages from chrome or safari etc into a notebook, it ties in with more apps and has a nice widget on the iPhone version. Evernote all the way.

Given the changes hopefully coming in December with teachers getting office proplus free it should be ok. Good news for everyone else though. http://blogs.microsoft.com/blog/2014/11/06/office-everywhere/

How to find reliable companies for CC4 to Vanilla migration
tj2419 replied to tj2419's topic in Learning Network Manager
Sorry that would have been helpful if i had included it. I am based in Wirral, North West, near Liverpool -
Hi I am planning for a big network upgrade over Summer 2015. We will be replacing 3 RM CC4.2 servers with upgraded equipment. I am currently researching three different options available to us. Stay with RM and work with them to upgrade us to CC4.5 on a virtualised network. Had the quote and it is quite expensive. Bring in a third party company to migrate us to a Virtualised Vanilla network from our current CC4.2 Upgrade ourselves to Windows Vanilla Virtualised network. Myself (NM), Assistant Network Manager and an apprentice. Now we are currently setting up a test environment to practice the upgrade ourselves to research that route. Can anyone recommend any reliable companies who could migrate our network from CC4 to Vanilla. Including setting up the virtualised environment and migrating all current data and users, setting up standard GPO's etc. We would also be purchasing all the hardware from them along with desktops that need replacing.

Hi yes sorry should have mentioned it is the open source version. One of those "we want something setting up but don't want to pay" requests @BatchFile do you have a record of your tagging just to compare to what we have now. It just seems to not be pushing out the correct IP address but is connecting on VLAN 2 as when we log onto the sone director it says ACCESS VLAN 2 next to a device we have tried it on. Thanks
-
Thanks i'll have a look around it. So if i find out how to do it tagging the green NIC as VLAN 2 and red NIC as VLAN 1? Thanks for all your help. If anyone else has any tips that would be great. I feel like i'm so close but just one little thing somewhere is stopping me.
-
Your smoothwall NIC is probably best set as interface 1 Vlan 1 and interface 1.1 Vlan 2. So is this something i would need to change on the smoothwall box itself? If so any pointers on where you do this? Our smooth wall box has two NIC's One we use as the red connection and one as the green. Can you see if your smoothwall is getting a dhcp request and sending a response Again sorry how would you do this? Apologies for all the questions this is all really new territory to me. We plugged our smooth wall box into a standalone switch with a laptop connected via ethernet and got an IP in the correct range immediately, so the DHCP side seems to be working fine.

Hi @IrritableTech I have done the tagging/untagging as suggested but when i try connect a device to our provisioning SSID (set up on VLAN 2) it just sticks on spinning around and doesn't connect. I also saw about trunking ports, is this something we would need to do? To create the VLANs we created them on the core switch and one POE switch at the moment. Would we need to create them on the AP's? or smooth wall box? Thanks
-
Hi Yes the router is also attached to the core switch. At first there were no VLAN's on the network. The ones i am creating as part of what i posted are the first, so i would assume that the port the router is attached to has no tagging etc yet. Would any additional tagging/untagging be required on the ports 33 or 35 on the core switch? Thanks
-
Also does anything extra need to be done to the access points themselves? Or should they just work? Cheers
-
Hi @IrritableTech thanks for the advice. As for the green (Clean) and Red (Dirty) connections. Red is our internet feed from the core switch. Green is our feed that goes into the smoothwall box and picks up the filtering settings and passes through the smoothwall box acting as our transparent proxy. Effectively we want the traffic for BYOD to go down the green connection (Port 33) and out the red (Port 35) to the internet. Thanks again
-
So tag port 1 on the core with 1 and 2 (for our vlans) The red and green is the way the smooth wall box was setup. Red is the dirty feed and green the clean feed. If that helps

Bump. Anyone have any advice? Hoping to have another look at this today cheers

Hi @BatchFile glad to hear you got yours working. I am trying to achieve exactly the same thing. Ruckus wireless with HP switches. I have attached a rough layout of one section of our network where we are trying to get a BYOD network for us. Can't get my head 100% around where needs to be tagged, untagged and truncked? Our Smoothwall box is going to act as our dhcp for the BYOD devices. Hoping to use: VLAN 1 = school owned devices VLAN 2 = BYOD Any chance anyone could write on my plan where it needs to be tagged etc? Also do you need to change any settings on the actual AP's (Zf7363's) or on the zone director (3050) other than in configure, WLAN, edit, advanced options and ACCESS VLAN? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Another BYOD and Ruckus thread - Help with proxy and IP's
tj2419 posted a topic in Wireless Networks
Hi We have a Ruckus Zone Director 3050 and AP 7363. I have managed to set up a provisioning SSID that only allows access to https://zd-ip-address/activate. Users login (using local database for the moment) and they get passed onto the SSID (BYOD-Guest) that allows access to the internet. Now here is where i start to struggle. I need a way to configure the proxy on the devices. There will be IOS, Android and windows devices. Is there anyway to edit the config profile that downloads as part of the zero-IT configuration to include the proxy? Or does anyone know of an automatic way to achieve this? IP Addresses - I want to use a seperate IP range e.g. 192. I have noticed the zone director has it's own dhcp server built in. Does anyone use this? If i were to configure this would i need to put it on a seperate VLAN so it didn't interfere with our windows dhcp server and school owned wireless devices. As i want devices connected to our main SSID to stay on 10. IP addresses but devices on our BYOD SSID to use 192. Thanks -
Hi I have been asked to find a way to set questionnaires where it records the amount of time taken on a response by user. Does anyone know of any sites / tools that allow you to set a questionnaire and it records the amount of time taken on each question? We use moodle as our VLE but i haven't been able to find a plugin that does this either. Cheers

Cheers. I've just got the go ahead to run with it as a platform for sharing the learning amongst our staff. An easy quick way to share relevant info with other staff. But more collaborative than just an email.

hi @the_dude did you just have to raise a normal support ticket for this or did you contact anyone in particular? Cheers

BYOD -Help - How to do it for free with this set up?
tj2419 replied to tj2419's topic in Wireless Networks
Hi Our filtering is currently a custom system developed by our LEA. We don't really have any options to change configuration on that but it filters based on AD groups by traffic through a proxy. When you say transparent filtering through a captive portal could you elaborate a little sorry. This is all new territory for me. Cheers -
Hi I have been asked to set up a BYOD network for use by our sixth form. I don't have any budget to pay for a system so needing to do it for free Current Hardware Ruckus Wireless Network - ZD3000 and AP's across school HP 1910 switches Council run web filter that they created themselves that uses a proxy address What we want We want sixth form to be able to bring in any device IOS, android and windows and be able to connect as easily as possible. Traffic needs to be filtered via proxy. Want it to try and have as few steps as possible for sixth form to link up to the wireless If possible some sort of way to prove they are from the school AD credentials? Ideas Possibly QR code to scan to install a profile on IOS devices with wifi and proxy details in it. But they would need to have some connection already to download the profile. Any way to have a limited kind of provisioning network to download the profile but nothing else? WPAD maybe for windows clients Don't really have any experience with android so not sure on a method with that Any ideas or suggestions would be extremely useful. Thanks

Migrating from CC4 to Vanilla - advice required
tj2419 replied to tj2419's topic in Learning Network Manager
Found answers for the other questions but still wondering on these: Does anyone know what would be the easiest method to get SCCM now for a trial version to start testing and setting it up on a trial VM? Would it be to change my EES or is there a trial version? If i got this Education Desktop with Core CAL Suite would i need anything else to run sccm? Cheers -

Trying to get my head around the licensing again. If i got this Education Desktop with Core CAL Suite I wouldn't need to get anything additional to run SCCM and it would include Antivirus, MS Office and MS Windows OS for all my desktops. Would i still license it by FTE staff so 140 x price of Education Desktop with Core CAL Suite? Does anyone have a very rough idea how much each Education Desktop with Core CAL Suite is so i can compare it to our current costs? What would be the easiest method to get SCCM now for a trial version to start testing and setting it up on a trial VM? Would it be to change my EES or is there a trial version? Cheers -
Hi We are testing meraki to manage some iPads and have linked our VPP account. When we link a device and invite it to join it accepts and then within about 5 minutes the device status changes from associated to retired :S Anyone had this before? Cheers
