Virgin are a much better alternative to BT where I live (BTs routing and wiring means that I am at the edge of the towns main exchange, despite there being one actually geographically more local to me than the one I am connected too, so their speeds always stank by comparison) My wife rang Virgin a couple of times over the years and got us a better deal each time (I only have phone and broadband with them at the moment, im wary of going from sky to them for TV, especially after the time they fell out and we lost out on sky1, which was probably the wife and I's main channel with atlantic also these days). You just have to be persistent I think with them, dont be afraid of making a nuisance of yourself with them if your not happy also, I had months of free broadband and services out of them over the years because they had problems with the UBR I was on, (It would need periodical resegmenting because majority of customers got put onto the same channel on this particular UBR, as soon as it flared up I was on the phone, because I use my line primarily for online gaming, ping and performance meant more for me than download speeds).

I have a JDSU Validator-NT905 - Validator/Certifier here that we use for cat5/6 testing (it also does phone lines), previous technician before me wanted it and its overkill for the school here, considering our phone system is supported and our cat5/6 networks are all working as is from installation, but it is a nice piece of gear that does what you want, I am not sure on the costs of the thing though, it was bought before I started.

I had my full name as a .co.uk a while back, but I let it lapse being as I thought it was too long and cumbersome adding [email protected], have my eye on one at the moment and I also have my domain setup which I use as a test bed for different things, people like seeing a domain outside of the hotmail.com type of addresses. I also had it set so that my name was partial with the [email protected] a while back, but again I lapsed it as I didnt like the way it spelt out, its down to personal taste I think at the end of the day.

I think we have some of the acers here on site ourselves they power up, but are not used really, recycled some old legacy stuff the other week though, included a tower server that required 2 of us to lift and carry it due to it being made of what felt like Iron rather than Steel, was over 10 years old I think that server.

I think the major thing we wanted to know most of all, is if there is any problems with performance if you just build your server as 2008R2 normal and just add a role then for the hyper-v, this is all we intend running on the two high spec servers we are going for ? or do we need to just put core on to get max out of it all, our immediate plans here are to virtualise and replace some of our very old legacy servers onto our platform when we get it all set up, possible things like app virtualisation can be looked at later.

I had a similar problem a while back with my old Antec Trupower PSU in my home machine, the voltage wouldnt get high enough at times to allow it to boot up the machine, one of the rails in the device would hover about 10v and I had to repeatedly power it off and on on the PSU switch until it got a high enough voltage to start up, I replaced it a while later. What I would recommend is getting a power supply tester, I got mine cheap off ebay, its worth the world with problems like this, as you can diagnose problems quickly and easily. I have one like this - PC LCD 20/24 Pin PSU SATA HD ATX BTX ITX Power Supply Tester Test Power Voltage | eBay - I would get one that shows voltage levels on it over the other type with just LEDs, its a bit more informative as to what is going on with the PSU

I wont be sad the day he retires, hes been an awful ref for years. He should never ever have been put in that position, he was never ever going to ref that game straight for Wales, it should be absolute neutrality in a game with the officials at international level. I know he declares himself Irish while being half French, ironic in the WC that it was the he had clear links to the team we beat to get to semi (Ireland) and then being half French and put in charge of the France Wales game, the iRB were absolutely disgusting even allowing that to happen in terms of neutrality over anything else.

Thats why that win was a result of a superb solo effort from Williams, we were holding in there until that point, it turned the game for us and we held on for the result, ultimately, Lawes shouldnt have had a centre rip the ball off him like that, something which he himself was probably deeply embarassed for considering how that all panned out in the end. Wales won, it just wasnt pretty rugby.

I would disagree on the grand slam bit, because you dont have to beat southern hemispheres for that, just be the best team in the northern hemisphere, which we are at present I believe. England had a team that have retired or been slowly retiring en masse, which is why Lancasters efforts and bringing young players through are impressive, Ireland are an ageing team, they do bring people through, but still overly rely on older players in that team, Scotland are in the doldrums big time and not going anywhere I think looking at the 6nations, they have some excellent talent, but dont gel as a team. France, they need consistency in the way they play, its no good being a 50/50 team where they can turn it on one week and blitz people and then play poorly a week later, I know their known for flair, but until they sort out consistency out, its not threatening really for most teams. Wales at least for me are in an exciting position here as we stand at the moment, we dont particularly fear anyone we play, that showed in the world cup I think and we will have a go at people and take everything as a challenge, Sean Edwards and Warren Gatland have made for an excellent coaching partnership with us, but we live on the knife edge too, It can all go wrong with us and when it does, its depressing, we even make hard work of games at times and I never underestimate my countries ability to disappoint me. Australia tour will be what everyones looking towards now here, especially given the fact we do need to make the next step now and up our game another level, we cant keep coming off second best to the southern hemi teams.

Well it was an awesome weekend of rugby, 3 slams now within the last 10 years and a youngish side for the majority of it, I dont think were quite the flash in the pan team that Paul O'Connell referred to us as a few years back, we deserved it this year, every game was close calling it with a lot of work needed to make it and we righted a few wrongs imo, especially over France after the world cup and the Allain Rowland debacle. But were no means a top draw team either yet, we have an exceptionally fit team now and a good ethos and spirit there, but we do need to get into the habit of beating the southern hemisphere teams with a regularity, not just an occasional one off here and there. I am finding though rugby under its current rules is a very frustrating game to watch, scrummaging - this is now becoming a penalty contest and were heading towards rugby league style restarts here, might as well award a free kick and be done with it as it is now, (I as did a load of people in the pub I was in, think Nigel Owens actually dealt a harsh blow with the penalty try, England would have won that game regardless of that decision though, Lancasters doing an awesome job of rebuilding a team from scratch with your country and actually promoting youth in that team), I really wish they would go back to resetting scrums a few times instead of being penalised by someone who at times demonstrates they havent played there at all and gets it wrong with the penalty call. Same for rucking, I would like to see that back into the game now and also sort out the leaving the ball at the base of the ruck for ages before playing it, that needs looking at (I am up for anything in the game that makes Phillips actually pass the ball with a bit of urgency) Andy Robinson I actually feel a bit sorry for, hes done pretty much as best he can with a limited recruitment pool of talent, he can do everything bar make them play it seems, no guts and a team in depression it seems like to me, needs a rebuild badly up there.

I love my kindle, had it nearly 10 months and havent looked back, reads pretty much all formats, doesnt strain the eyes either and calibre is recommended by me for putting stuff onto it and converting it to a more readable format, in the case of things like "pdfs" they can be a bit hard to take in at times.

ideally we need a bit more details here to work with something like this, i.e. how is the machine setup on your domain - is it a shared server or on its own network ? is the machine working behind a decent firewall ? Aye, we have done both of them here, disabled fast user switching and students are not allowed to lock a workstation. Microsoft made a stupid decision to stop allowing administrators to log people off as well forcing this.

well, with us as I said, we use mandatory profiles all regular users - staff and pupils get a set desktop and start menu, it also just maps their network space then for saving their data too, so deleting the profile on a local machine here doesnt do much, our profiles are less than 50 meg. We dont allow users to save anything locally here and everything is locked down that way to prevent accidental data loss by preventing users saving anything on a local hard disk. On a laptop, that GPO will cause problems obviously if the laptop isnt on a network, because everything is saved locally, which is why I said about quotas, because its easier just to specify how much a user can save on a laptop than an unlimited profile size.

Hi, I use the following GPO to clean out all profiles automatically on windows 7 at the school I work, no doubt its the same area your looking at, Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System > User Profiles Delete user profiles older than a specified number of days on system restart Enabled Delete user profiles older than (days) 7 It basically cleans out all profiles the machines on our network, (I have a seperate security group with all the computers I want cleaned out in to prevent loss of profiles on some special machines we have) - The default profile doesnt get touched from what I have seen on the machines on our network. We also use mandatory profiles for both staff and pupils on our network which prevent them editing anything outside of their own documents on the network. If you have small laptop drives you may want to set limits on their them through quotas as well to prevent them creating massive profiles on the machines. Hope that helps. Richard
