I had massive issues with them myself a while back relating to a mobile internet account for my MiFi, I switched from PaYG to the 1 month contract they offer as the data amount was much better, it got a bit farcical in the end as I ended up with 4 SIMS all supposed to work for my MiFi device, which didn't. It takes a while from what I experienced for anything with them that took near enough a week and two visits to a three shop in the locality.

I have only looked at the CBT nuggets for CCNA and Jeremy Choara is quite excellent, hes enthusiastic and passionate, whereas the Udemy course narrator seems to speak in a monotone.

Their videos are better than the alternatives such as udemy I think having watched both, expensive for access though and I wouldn't pay for it either

I wouldnt have that be the case there for anything I managed getting them straight off the web, given that WSUS is a free tool to control what installs or not, it can be very painful when it goes wrong and WSUS at least allows you to specify updates for Automatic Removal which can help with recovery of broken machines, as well as the scheduling and bandwidth control. WSUS also allows you to see if machines are not picking up the updates through its reporting. That being said, I would be looking to switch off any in-line upgrades on ours to different OS versions, we would want to control when people migrate and get our ADMX files in places and policies first off. Also with 10 the start menu seems to be a sticking point to going across, but its coming along slowly.

We use Pcounter in our school for this purpose, it gives them a popup when printing to choose their department, which then gets billed internally for their printing for Staff, they also choose a department when logging onto the MFD for their photocopying. Pupils : they have a set amount of credit each month to prevent them doing daft things like printing a university prospectus out (happened in the past I was told) and we just top them up accordingly.

The trouble is usually the people at the top only take account of pounds and pence I think when these people present to them about these potential savings topics and also outsourcing to cloud is something that I see being put about again in Educational IT, Business IT is in a much different position to Education I think at this point because of the higher costs involved for their services if they go down that route. Education - I genuinely think with Office365 and GAFE being pushed to schools as a free incentive to go that way, as far as managements are concerned, it means you no longer need that expensive server as far as their concerned now, because MS/Google will take it all without any costs. We are seeing it being slowly pushed as a simplified solution that fits all evils now here, its just a case of the internet holding out and being fit for the online age and purpose. (we all know that this is universally a bad idea against having some local storages and services that you maintain security and control over.) I think over the next 10 years a lot of us will see shifts into different fields than education because of the pushing of cloud services upon us.

Indeed that is one of the main reasons why I have chose to do my CCNA, it is definitely going that way now slowly and surely, Cloud based services, web based management of domains and services seem to be the way forward for the moment in IT.

Its worth adding that these subjects can be self studied too, you don't need to go on a course to learn them specifically, just book the exams at your local centre when your ready. So far my CCNA has cost me - £183 so far, with another £100 per exam cost when I am ready to take them I got lucky and had a friend pass me on his CBTNuggets stuff as well admittedly.

Was chatting with my pal who is a net engineer for a major it company the other day about this all, we went to college together, Ironically 15 years ago I was training to be a UNIX admin, on SCO open server while working as a wintel engineer, but left the job to return to education and do a degree, should have just hung in there back then and not wasted my time with the degree, considering the wages on offer for that skill, we both laughed though, hindsight is a wonderful thing

Cisco for me, going towards my CCENT here slowly and surely, it is what I am looking at as I am looking to broaden my horizons looking for a new role outside education here, Network engineers jobs seem to command higher salaries as its widely regarded as a harder skill to acquire from my reading so far. Udemy courses are ok, though you will find they drop lower as they have sales like DFS, I picked up both ccna exams for £9 each, cbtnuggets are better I think though

I'm an associate member of BCS here after recently completing the rittech in infrastructure support, as it was a new qual and free registration for both instead of the 80 quid fee, the citp isn't worth the further effort I felt for me at this time

MDT with us images a single machine in about 12 minutes, was slower in past only because of Sibelius back then, as it had 40gb of sound files, which now work from a network share I got a suite reimaged in 80 minutes a fortnight ago, 30 machines with majority of software in build save for flash/Java

I will watch the show, despite having read all the books, it doesnt appear like GRRM is going to get them out any time soon with the procrastinating ;D, I think their both going slightly different directions now anyway to each other from my understanding so not reliably going to be the same conclusions I think.
