Last I'd heard, Leeds opted out of YHGfL - so this may not be an option. Do you have line of site between any of the facilities? Laser links may help if you do.

Check the parent folders to see if the rights are coming from there (if inherit permissions is on) Only give users modify permissions to prevent them changing their folder permissions. Enable auditing to see when their permissions are being edited.

Given the number of modules still to be ported to .net this would be a long, long way off.

Annual Appraisal / Review Process and Targets
steve replied to newtothis's topic in How do you do....it?
How about linking the success to feedback. Do a survey? If you get good feedback on day-to-day support and implementation of new project then you award the payment. -
Microsoft don't support POP3 email collection on Exchange, however as you've said there are plenty apps out there that can do this. Have a look at: Connecting Exchange Server to a POP3 Account You'll need solution that will download emails and leave a copy on the POP3 server for x number of days - this way your staff will still be able to view their mail via the web. One issue you will have is you'll need to know and keep track of the mailbox usernames and passwords.

You'll never get an established UK act on there as the majority of the UK see it as a bit of a joke - look at some of the carp we've sent them recently (Daz Sampson, Scooch??) and Jordan almost went one year! It's just a bit of a laugh for most. Given the huge variation in tastes (and lack of) across Europe its hard to appeal to all. Oh and there still was a fair bit of political voting going on. At least it cured my insomnia, I had a nice nap for about 20 songs

Advice - State school processes
steve replied to bodminman's topic in Network and Classroom Management
In our school if the head supports it (IT wise) then there's no need to go to the governors. The annual budgets go to governors and that's about it. Choosing a supplier is done without any consultation, just have to be inside the schools policies / procedures for purchasing. It would have to be something very significant to warrant more than this, perhaps if we were RM and planned ditching it, maybe but probably not even then. Unless of course you have a governor who has a specific interest in the IT at the school, then the head might like to keep them on-board. Anyhow, I'd cut the technical details to a minimum and focus on the teaching and learning benefits. Also mention the total cost over the life of the plan, not just the initial cost. -
Good shout, not sure if they can. Also factor in the flexibility of the BIOS - being able to cripple them if stolen. The ability to add ownership info to the boot up. Can you lock a hard drive to a specific laptop? You can beat getting a demo model or seeing one in real life at a neighbouring school or even PC World!

Well maybe HP have changed their support then. Our laptops took 5-10 days to be repaired - they were initially repaired in the UK then were sent to Poland for the last 12 months of warranty. For me the website was always appallingly slow when trying to log an issue. One laptop was lost then returned unrepaired as they claimed it had water damage - it didn't before it was sent. We had power pins breaking on a regular basis- 25+ out of 120 laptops. Initially they repaired them under warranty, then towards the end of the 3 year warranty they refused to repair this fault. Suppose there are exceptions to all things.

While the HP is a better spec (and possibly better built) laptop, I have issues with HP warranty. Indian call centres, have to jump through hoops, poor service when collect / repair. Acer - no personal experience, but had reports of both excellent and appalling support. Maybe a Lenovo?

You can print timetables from a NovaT4 style interface from within SIMS.net You'll need the following permissions (we created a new group and added the permissions / users to that in system manager): Curriculum - Timetable Printing - View(All) Curriculum - Timetable Printing - Edit(All) This will put an extra option under Reports menu - Print Timetables Should solve all your problems - you can print direct to a spreadsheet from this too.

We are in the process of specifying a new phone system for our school. To save time and ensure we don't miss anything I was wondering if any of you had a tender document for a telephone system that you'd be willing to share.

From Supportnet: 1) Create a new user in SIMS .net, making them a member of the System Manager group and also a trusted SIMS .net user 2) Create a batch file containing the following DBATTACH /SERVER="server\sims" /DATABASE="SIMS" /BACKUP /AUTO /TRUSTED if ERRORLEVEL 1 GOTO :ERROR GOTO :END :ERROR ECHO NOT WORKING :END 3) Create a scheduled task to run the batch file the with the users credentials as in 1) The task will then run whether the user is logged in or not A Scheduled Task is set up via:- Start | Control Panel | Scheduled Tasks | Add Schedule Tasks Follow the on screen instructions and browse to the batch file that will run the backup

We do a nightly backup that shrinks the ldf - its the mdf that's grown. SIMS is used here very intensively - all lesson registers, assessment, profiles, personnel, you name it we use it, and use it a lot.

I saw The Daily Mail article on the Principal. He's used to teach at our school a fair few years ago. Not heard of any successful protests against an Academy. IF there are serious issues then co-ordinated action from staff, students and parents would be the way to go. If the local press are staying clear - go for the local TV / radio.

Bahrain has a capacity of 50,000 Formula 1 has never been about the spectators with grandstand tickets around £200-500. Did you see how empty the stands were last week in China? These far flung new markets aren't working, the TV audience is still Europe - that's why they are tinkering with the start time to get the GPs on at a reasonable time over here. But will Bernie eat humble pie and put more GPs on in Europe? No chance.
