Sorry, to clarify I want to set this on the Computer so all users get it, even when no-one is logged in. I have opened GP Editor on my 2012 R2 Domain controller and under Computer Configuration > Policies > Administrative Templates > Control Panel > Personalization, I do not have the "Force a specific default lock screen image" policy.

Hello all, I am trying to setup my GPO for some Windows 8 Tablets. I think its all sorted, except for the login / lock screen. I want to set a custom image for all users, enforced through GPO but cannot work out how! I found this Microsoft KB article - Win8: How to Manage the Lock Screen Image on Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012 but this only applies to window 8 and server 2012, whereas I am using 8.1 and 2012 R2. my DCs are fully patched up to date, and the KB2770917 patch is available on wsus and approved, but is not relevant for these systems. the GPO setting it points to - “Force a specific default lock screen image” isn't available, even on a newly created GPO. any suggestions?

I ran cables before I decorated when I moved in, all terminating in the study. 1 each to the kitchen and bedroom, and a pair to the living room next to the master socket. For a time (before FTTC) I even had the router in the study and crimped a cable to run the phone line over the cat5 up there - didn't affect the speeds at all. Now I use the living room router for incoming Internets, WiFi, Media PC and X-Box, and a switch in the Study for the Gaming PC and Server.

We allow access for staff, but not students and this seems to be fine. We also use smoothwall to force SafeSearch and strip out the comments.

I would always split pupil machines from teacher machines, then depending on numbers, split by area / room / laptop trolley if needed. also for pupil usernames, consider something like (2DigitIntakeYear)(Surname)(Initial) it makes it easier to identify where the pupil is in AD from their username and cuts down on duplicates.

We have a few here, installed by our BSF Cabling company. They are used for CCTV Cameras that were too far from the comms room for a CAT.6 Run. Personally I would have just put a small Comms cab on that side of the building with an 8 port switch, but I am not a Leading ICT solutions provider.

We noticed this when testing, one way of mitigating this issue is to use a special user that has the test player software set as the shell, instead of Explorer. They can still lock the test using ctrl-alt-del, but that should be it.

All, I've installed a new Server 2012 R2 box, which is going to be promoted to a Domain Controller. I have installed Volume Activation Services, added a KMS key and activated it (via phone) when I go to configuration, I cannot get any further. whether I am adding a firewall exception or not and/or adding records to the DNS zone, I press commit and get an error which reads: The following error has occurred. Please resolve the error and try again. Description: STATUS_SUCCESS anyone got any ideas / suggestions?

It is kinda disappointing though, as the original premise of free portal 2 with locked down accounts was very much the right direction for education.

Looks like this is no longer a running program. Here is the response I got from Steam Support So they now just want you to setup standard steam accounts, rather than having specific cut-down education versions. Very disappointing really.

All, I have been trying to reduce unneeded internet traffic at our site of late, due to poor speeds on the connection I noted a lot of traffic to Office online help – specifically officeimg.vo.msecnd.net Doing a bit of digging and it seems office 2010 and 2013 connect to this address automatically at startup and download stuff. At our site it was roughly 1 – 1.5 Gig a day! Changing the Office 2010 registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Common\Internet\UseOnlineContent Or Office 2013 HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Common\Internet\UseOnlineContent To REG_DWORD value 0 Disables this and frees up that bit more bandwith I’ve pushed this out via Group Policy preferences, but you could just as easily use a login script or modify mandatory profiles. Hope this is helpful

BF2 is on steam, have you tried adding the key there?

not at the moment, I'm just letting windows use the default permissions. It works fine as it prevents and permanent changes to the profile since it is .man even if you delete things off the desktop or add other junk on, these are not written back at logoff. I didn't want to start copying permissions as well at this stage, just to try and avoid any access issues. even if the pupils do manage to modify the profile it will be re-synchronised at next boot.

if you want to preserve permissions you need to add /SEC on the end as well.
