We used to get a similar issue intermitently when we used CSE software, never got to the bottom of it but it hasnt happened since we got rid of the CSE stuff

We use entirely Smart Managed Netgear Switches in our Cabinets, linked back to a HP Procurve core switch. We did have some issues with Netgear stuff in the core while under heavy load which prompted the move to the HP but the Layer 2 netgear stuff should be plenty for your enviroment.

We use one of these http://www.misco.co.uk/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=262949&CatId=657 with 4x 500GB Drives for the storage setup as Raid 10 Works very well with 1000 Pupils Home folders + 110 Staff with Home folders and Roaming profiles.

How much is a lot? is it a hundred or so packets per minute, which probably isnt excessive for a network your size, or several thousand per minute which is excessive. We noticed this on our network, where over 60% of traffic was ARP but this turned out to be purely because there was so little other broadcast traffic.

Actually 802.11a uses the 5Ghz part of the spectrum, its 802.11b and g that use the 2.4Ghz. If you split devices half and half on A and G bands that effectively gives you double the bandwidth. The one to avoid is having B and G devices on the same network, as everything then runs at a max of 11Mbps rather than 54 - so you have 1/5th the Bandwith shared between all the clients.

Techmonkey, IIRC the realtek app, along with several other annoying bits and pieces (including the Intel app that lets you turn the screen upside down) are started from the registry in Local Machine->Software->Microsoft->windows->currentversion->run you can delete the relevant keys from there to stop them being started.

I've just spent this morning getting our backgrounds working with mandatory profiles. The issue in our case was Active desktop was not enabled. Although I had set "Enable Active Desktop" to Enabled, and "Disable Active Desktop" to Not configured, there is a third setting which also controls it! in Windows Components->Windows Explorer if the option "Turn on Classic Shell" is Enabled then Active desktop wallpaper will not work. Why 3 seperate policies are needed to control the same thing God alone knows but this is what sorted it for us.

petectid, we've got it working like that currently, swopping the PDAs out after each one has synched, but I was hoping there was a way to get them all to sync at the same time, any ideas? dezt, to download the whole days registers you need to press the little camera icon in the top right for each teacher, or dock the PDA and use the PDA manager built into full Pars.

We are just starting to look at Pocket Pars for the PE and Drama departments to do registration. However we cannot currently get it to sync more than one PDA at a time, has anyone found a way of doing this? as we would like to have half a dozen or more PDAs connected to one machine that the staff could collect them from. The way I setup auto logon for display machines etc is to use Start -> Run then type in Control userpasswords2 this brings up a control panel app, and just uncheck the "Users must enter a username and password to logon" box. Once you click ok it will prompt you for the default username/password/domain to use.

We had the same Issue with a fujitsu laptop, the easiest solution is to use the windows install disks that came with it - these should have the drivers built in.

The other thing you could try is hardware profiles - have the IR disabled in the default profile, and when you want to use it reset the machines and select the IR enabled profile

How do you deploy your client images? we had a similar issue when we used to deploy using ghost without syspreping the machines first. We had to delete two registry keys in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Currentversion\Windowsupdate AccountDomainSID SusClientID PingID then when the machine was re-started these keys were re-created and all was well.

Rob, what model were the Netgear AP's and what have you done with them?

We replaced it, along with our other core switch with a HP Procurve 4100gl with 2x 6 port GBIC Modules and 3x 20 port G/Bit Ethernet modules. One thing to watch out for, HP Switches only seem to like HP GBIC's - our Netgear ones from the 7212 didnt work.

We had a similar issue with a netgear 7212 last year, using that as the central Fibre switch, we tried Firmware updates but ended up replacing it with a HP Procurve switch

We Use WSUS 3, and I assume this is the intended behaviour i.e. an update will only list as installed if 100% of computers have checked in and reported with Yes thats installed or No, I dont need that. If a computer hasnt reported either way the update will be listed as no status, even if there is only 1 machine that hasnt checked in.

Hello all, Just bought an IBM x3650 Server, however it doesnt come with any hard drive caddys. I've dug around on the IBM webpage and contacted their support, but I've found nothing and their support havent replied to me Sad So to get to the point - does anyone know where I can get 6 3.5" Hard Drive Trays for this server?
