That's exactly my point - don't hammer the kids over the head with more maths and curriculum subjects, offer them choice - languages, practical IT, additional sports or vocational interests - we'd be more likely to see those less academically inclined actually get something out of being at school rather than ending up as a disillusioned troublemaker. I think vocational pathways are so often underestimated but if our cars break down who fixes them? If our boilers blow up or our pipes explode who do we turn to? Technicans and plumbers. These are important, valuable roles and when the zombie apocalypse comes, the practical roles will be the ones people need! The earlier we can get young people engaged in these subjects the earlier we can intervene to stop a young person who is less academically inclined from becoming disruptive and unproductive. Given how expensive continuing education is now becoming, many young people are 'priced out' of university and to offer the beginnings of vocational pathways at school would provide a real, valid alternative. I would certainly support my children in pursuing a practical course in IT (for example) as personally I feel hands-on experience is worth more than any amount of theoretical knowledge.

I recently had an irritating rattle in my front drivers side wheel arch and it turned out the wheel arch liner was loose. It might be worth checking that too as it's fairly easy to check. If the rattle gets worse at high speeds it might be this.

I don't remember doing any pranks when I left school. All we did was write all over each others shirts. The clock one is quite funny though and fairly benign.

I'm afraid I'm in support of this idea too - from the point of view of someone who will struggle to make ends meet unless I'm back at work within hours of birthing a sproglet, lengthening the school day would help tremendously where childcare and after-school supervision is concerned. If the school day finished at 5 more people would be able to work proper full time hours. In a country where the average full time private sector worker gets 25 days of holiday a year plus bank holidays in many cases, trying to accommodate the additional 8 weeks kids get is very difficult and expensive. Perhaps if kids were in school longer and had less holiday we might see a drop in the instances of antisocial behaviour as they would be supervised for more of the time? I certainly think more time could be spent in school on languages, but I also feel that vocational interests shouldn't be underestimated - with more time in the school days schools could offer a more varied curriculum with more practical subjects - A more effective, practical IT curriculum, perhaps courses in Vehicle maintenance/mechanics, better 'household skills' like DIY and Cooking (perhaps if people learned how to cook properly they might eat better therefore less obesity?), and perhaps even 'Electronics', horticulture, carpentry, engineering etc etc. I do agree though that the workload on people in the education sector is already high enough, so if they do extend the school day then this must be at the expense of more staff to cover the additional hours as I don't think giving teachers a higher workload is the answer. Similarly for non teaching staff there may have to be a 'shift' element to their jobs as there is in the private sector. Most non teaching staff seem to work until nearly 6 anyway so they are already working full time hours, therefore the day would need to be split with some staff covering the 'morning' and some the 'late'. In the private sector a person in IT would work 40 hours a week, with 25 days of holiday a year but would expect to earn between £20k and £30k at a second line level and upwards of £40k at managerial level. At the moment non teaching staff salaries seem to be pro rata so many non teaching staff are working long days but getting a LOT of holiday and earning between £15k and £20k. They would HAVE to up the wages paid if they extended school hours to match the sorts of hours worked in the private sector.

Have you seen our videos on Smoothwall - YouTube ? You might find those of help. They are not step by step guides but they do explain key principles behind the web filtering configurations. As a Smoothwall customer you would also have access to a library of Knowledgebase articles to help you troubleshoot web filtering issues. It is probably worth mentioning here that our new Service Improvement Team are doing a lot of work on knowledgebase and tutorial resources so watch this space.

It depends on which country it was in - some require dash cams in all vehicles meaning that potentially there is footage of every event from multiple angles. Personally I reckon we ought to have dash-cams in this country too - might reduce insurance premiums as false claims would be more difficult when there is mandatory footage.

Now, see, I'd agree with you on the Cata point - there was nothing new and revolutionary in Cata but I am LOVING Pandaria - the LFR feature is brilliant for those of us that want to see endgame content but aren't hardcore raiders - we can just queue as and when we have the time rather than have to be online at a certain time of day to join a guild run. It's brilliant. I'm loving the dailies - ironically. I like how the rewards are actually useful - valour points and rep so even if you've already hit exalted, there are some enjoyable dailies that I still do just for the fun of it (bombing runs are always fun). I like how you unlock bits of the Isle of Thunder by doing solo scenarios. I love battle pets and account-bound mounts. The only stuff I miss are the really pretty tier sets - since Lich King the tier sets have been bland and ugly. On a topic-related note, is there an Android interface app?

It might be of interest to note that we see dynamic content analysis come to the fore in sites like Yahoo Mail where the users news feed might show objectionable content when they log in. On the face of it, yahoo mail is a webmail site in the webmail category, but we do see it blocked based on content - most commonly Gambling and Porn based on the ads and news feeds on the landing page. Of course most of the time you won't see this but periodically we see customers baffled by why the block page appears for something 'normal' like yahoo mail and when you drill into the log you find out it was blocked on content. You'll see it too in sites that randomly generate content when the random generator puts together something that triggers a content block. I can't point you to one though as the nature of it is random.

Don't get me started on Virgin Media - They are the only cable provider in our area and we're so far away from the exchange that we can't get BT infinity or anything - our bills are over £50 a month for no good reason, the wireless on the router is DREADFUL (I plan to put it into bridged mode and run one I can manage myself). The router randomly reboots itself periodically - usually when LeBoyfriend and I are halfway through a Raid in WoW. The Wireless randomly dumps clients for no good reason - the client says its still connected but I can't ping or access the router itself and the only way to resolve it is to reboot the router. I've given up phoning support now as I'm sick to death of the 'have you turned it off and on again' type of support. I fervently wish we'd never gone with Virgin but the in-laws have a standard BT ADSL and it's even worse - the speed is terrible so until BT infinity comes to our area we're fubared. *Sigh*

Are you transparently intercepting HTTPS on your transparent interface? Do you have Anti-malware enabled? Either of those two things can have an impact on speed - malware scanning especially as if you are scanning all content, even benign 'web content' stuff then this will use a lot of helpers. If you are intercepting HTTPS transparently, what OS are the clients coming in on - Windows XP clients don't support the protocol so if you are seeing slowness on those clients you might need to switch it off (for example).

It's penetratingly cold here but the sun is out and there are occasional flurries of snowflakes that aren't even trying to settle. The cold is seeping into the bones though.

I don't 'get' Fahrenheit either. When I hear someone say '104 degrees' (usually an American) I can't work out if that is hot or cold! At Least with Celsius the closer it is to 0, the colder it is (until you get into negative figures). Makes a lot more sense as it matches what we see outside - Frozen water, temp must be around 0 Degrees C. Frozen water is 32 Fahrenheit - how is that sensible?

I'm 30 and I use mixed measurements - usually when cooking it's a combination of grams and ounces. When I weigh myself it's imperial (when I can see through the tears). When I measure stuff it's mm or inches. I love the randomness of our measurements.

It's a badly written article in that it implies in the photo caption that the Sea King has been in use for 70 years. Poor Journalism.
