Yup nicely padded gambeson under some plate around the Thorax would be awesome. Although I'm giving thought to the Samurai style of using the ceramic plates instead of steel - it's lighter and cooler in the sun.

Considering that Stannis apparently has the fire lord / lord of light on his side I'd be surprised if a bit of Snow was detrimental. Regarding Cersei, I love how clearly her machinations and fall from grace are highlighted in the books. It is so easy to recognise what is happening. I knew things were going belly up when she started diddling with the kingsguard and got the Kettleblacks involved. I knew she couldn't handle that level of manoeuvring.

Agree 100%. Charles Dance is BRILLIANT as Tywin the same way as Peter Dinklage is AMAZING as Tyrion. They are pretty much bang on to my 'mental pictures'. I do think that Tywins death is necessary though as it goes to show that Cersei is not as clever as she thinks she is. Everything starts to fall apart when Tywin and Tyrion aren't around to keep it all together and that shows that the strength of the Lannisters is NOT Cersei and Jaime as they like to think. Jaime has had his epiphany and is undergoing his own character shift and Cersei is trying to be Tywin and failing magnificently. As much as the death of Tywin is a shame from the shows point of view, after Joffreys death, Tywin doesn't really have much of a role besides political manoevering but leaving him alive means that other storylines become too difficult to converge. If Tywin is alive, then other houses can't gain power without it seeming that Tywin has become weak and it casts doubt on the writing, but with him gone there is a massive power vacuum that Cersei attempts to fill with the high septon storyline but is proven not to be as good at the game as her father. Tyrion is a worthy contender as Tywins replacement so he NEEDED to be removed from Kings Landing in order to advance the fall of Cersei. I just hope that GRRM gets him back on track because he could be valuable to Daenerys and could be the difference between success and failure for her as for all her tactical acumen, politically she is a weak player and she needs the political mind of Tyrion to succeed.

Yes, but you are overlooking the new Targaryen Prince that is holed up in Griffins roost... I think Tyrion is the MOST Lannister of his Siblings if you want the truth.

As for being stabbed and left for dead at Castle Black I think Melisandre will have something to say about that... I also like how there is now another Targaryen Prince in play although the Dorne storylines have irritated me a bit really as they don't seem to be amounting to anything other than a vaguely threatening presence that obviously looks like it is going to side with Targaryen rule. I like how Daenerys has been dumped in the middle of another Khalesar with just a Dragon for company but again I can't see the point - if this had been done BEFORE she had the awesome Unsullied it might have been a decisive turning point, now it just feels as though she's cut her losses and is starting again. All the dithering and pointless turning in circles in 'A Dance with Dragons' has left me quite frustrated as all the progress made in books 1-4 was pretty much nuked by ADWD. The Sansa/Alayne Stone story line is PANTS. I LOVE that Sansa and Tyrion were 'reluctant bedfellows' and I liked the relationship dynamic. Tyrion is my favourite character but ADWD turned him into a bit of a loon with the 'Where do Whores go' thing getting REALLY tired REALLY fast. Tyrion murdering his father was GENIUS and I love how his true nature showed him to be more like Tywin than any of his 'Normal' children. I am really rooting for Tyrion to end up with Casterly Rock. I'm also really rooting for Sansa to realise that as husbands go, Tyrion was pretty good to her. I hope to see them back together at the end of the series but I have a suspicion that Tyrion might not make it out of the series alive. That being said, I can't imagine why GRRM would kill off the most loved character... The developments in Brans story line are interesting and it SEEMS as though Bran is being groomed to take his place among the roots of the Weirwoods but I can't see Bran abandoning his responsibilities or the Reed siblings and Hodor just leaving him there... I liked the hint that Bran could communicate across the timeline though... As for Rickon, he comes across like a bit of a twerp in the books so I don't find myself caring overmuch about his outcome. I'd like to see Nymeria appear again but Aryas current status seems to have her just cruising along at the House of Black and White - I much preferred her when she was on the road with the Hound tbh.

Also, you'll probably find that increased urbanisation and less and less flowers in gardens and green land are probably partly to blame. In the 60's and 70's people still had gardens with flowers and stuff in them. Now people can't wait to pave over them for driveways/convenience. I have to admit to wanting to pave over my front garden as parking is a nightmare but I want lots of flowers and plants in the back garden. People just don't want to be bothered with gardening any more or don't have the time. Also, new build houses have tiny gardens - any new-build estate is all house and parking and no garden.

Sorry. Enzo is partly to blame. He seems to only be able to catch Bees.

I loved both these books - Pillars of the Earth and World without end. Both of them gripped me and I was able to immerse myself easily. The new Dan Brown one is dire. It's awful. I found reading it was like wading through wet sand. ICanhascheezburger was more entertaining of a lunchtime...
