Cheers for the ideas. I was going to colour code the actual devices as well not just in the patch panel side. I forgot about the uplink, we only have 1 so I think I'll use Red for that, my logic behind the colour Red for servers is that Red = danger, i.e. don't unplug!!! same goes for uplink. The comms-express cables seem very good value for money, but I've not used them before. I may as well get them from there as I'll be getting the rest of the kit from them.

Over the summer I'll be colour coding endpoints and devices using ethernet cables. 0.5m for patch panel and 2m for endpoints. I've a few questions however regarding the 0.5m patch cables are they able to achieve gigabit speeds at such a sort length? I'm sure I read something about a minimum length for a CAT5e cable but google isn't bringing anything solid up. Are patch cables pretty much the same quality from various places? such as, CPC, comms-express, rs-online, cable monkey, broadbandbuyer etc etc. I'll also be getting some Cisco SG300-52 and SG300-28 series gigabit switches to drive it all. My thinking for colouring is: Yellow for Printers Red for Server Blue for Desktops Grey for Guest ports Orange for Promethean PC's Black for NAS Pink for Smoothwalls Purple for Routers Any thoughts? recommendations?

OK its working now for whatever reason, I don't care. I decided to start again from scratch so deleted the deployment and the printer and went through the process again, this time using the 32bit version of PushPrinterConnections.exe as I managed to find in the event log when I was using the 64bit version that it wouldn't execute. Thank you to everyone for your help.

The other printer didn't apply either, so its not related to the printer its self.

OK I've followed that guide to the letter, even trying the 32bit version from my 2003R2 server but nothing worked. The printer GPO is applying according to a "gpresult" but its not showing up in "Printers and Faxes" I'm going to try and map another printer in the same fashion, just in case something fruity is going on. I don't know if it matters but I'm trying to map a UTAX CD1242 photocopier.

Cheers plexer, I'll give that a try tomorrow, I did read a microsft guide (not that one) and it didn't help but it didn't include some of that info. This sounds promising.

The computer eventlog doesnt say anything and neither does the server event log which is a little worrying. I have sucessfully deployed 2 other printers in the same way but to Win7 Pro clients. Is this possibly XP related?

I've got a printer that I need to deploy to a couple of computers that are located in classrooms. I've got an OU called "Classrooms" with the computers in it and a GPO called "classrooms printer" I have tried to deploy it through Print Management by right clicking on the print and selecting "Deploy with Group Policy..." and then selecting the relevent OU and GPO. However it just wont appear on the computers in "Printers and Faxes" (XP SP3 pcs) for love nor money. I have tried "gpupdate" and "gpupdate /force" but nothing works.

I've got a 1500Va UPS that is powering a server, NAS, content filter (desktop pc) and a switch its load is currently at ~25% load is that a lot? I don't know a great deal about UPS's.

Its a complete farce. I thought I would add a channel to my page via "Featured Channels" to give access to a channel but it doesnt work.

Some users say that their users can access their channel but then later on they cant. It doesnt seem like too much to ask for, if YouTube knows who we are via the Header Mod then surely they can allow access to our channel.

Could you not restrict the file types on your content filter from being upload or downloaded? You say you are looking at Docs in particular but you want to disable Drive, Drive is the new name for Google Docs.

I think the majority of users on here use Smoothwall content filtering. It should give you the flexability you need to allow youtube edu access. As well as all round awesomeness.

Damn annoying! This has so much potential but its riddled with flaws. They could at least slap a "beta" sticker on it to save face.

Are people still having problems with the playlists? I've made a playlist but I've no idea how YouTube expect a student to find the playlist. If they go to youtube.com/schoolname or youtube.com/accountname they get either a 404 or permission denied. I was expecting our channel to be added to YouTube EDU so that the students can just browse to our channel and view the playlists. As reggiep says they can only view a video if they are given a direct link.

Yep its all fixed for me too. Now I just need to work out how this all works.

Thank you OB1, I guess I'll just have to keep trying. I don't know what I'm going to do in the mean time. I need to allow access to some videos on youtube to some students.

I've just signed up for Youtube for Schools but I'm getting 500 Internal Server Error when I click on "Manage my account" Is or has anyone experienced the same? I've tried using IE and FF using both a computer at work and my computer at home.

That looks like a very handy program to have! Have you used it? In my opinion in this day and age I don't think we should still be doing everything via scripts.

I should add that the message doesn't appear on the admin account. I'll try disabling interception and see of it makes a difference.
