Ah assumed it'd be multiple lower sized disks If it's a backup location though I'd argue there's no benefit to virtualising it (think like a NAS etc), else you're effectively going to put a backup of a VM onto another VM? What's that give you extra? (I'd still run the actual backup VM as a VM, just not it's storage space). Can't think of one benefit really doing that. There's no benefits with backups because this is the backup, no migrating/redundancy as again this is the backup. No need to extend/shrink VHDs. Unless I'm having a dumb day? Veeam wise, Aye in that case I'd suggest using either a scale-out option and just push both C/D into the one pool, or mapping 2 jobs to the individual drives then. I know you said this is the physical server you have, but is there anything that stops you using another raid config on it still? (Like do the controllers only have 5?) I'd much rather use something like 6/10 and have the spare drives for failing, than the extra space especially if you're running a DC/hyperV host etc on it Generally I wouldn't split a VM files across 2 controllers (assuming that is 2?) as you've got 2 points to fail etc, if you got multiple backup jobs split them across the 2 disks/arrays but keep 1 VM to 1 side What I'd have done though is look at attaching the 2.7TB and 800GB~ to the HOST as drives, and then just use the backup VM to point to those 2 locations (Not attached as VHDX to the VMs etc), assuming whichever software you're using allows it. (Something like Veeam you could add both locations in to a single pool and let it backup as it wants to each) If that makes sense (As a disclaimer, I'm assuming when you say backups you do mean backups rather than replicas?) Morning All, Managed to wrangle an old 27" iMac Mid 2011 that hasn't been used in a long time, and wondering about bringing it back to life for a personal project. Obviously as it's old it doesn't support anything above High Sierra and Bootcamp isn't supported for Windows 10 (I know you can hack it around) Just wondering if there's any obvious OSs that work well on older Macs that still get support, and don't require excessive "fixes" to get every bit of hardware working etc Other options I can see are just run HS without updates, try Win10 without Bootcamp, something like CloudReady but seems a waste as the hardware isn't really that bad enough to need it Thanks, Steve

Do you actually want it split across the subnets? As in any reason not to just use multiscopes on your single (insert another number) DC that works with both scopes at once? Steve

Unless it's been added in a recent version the only way I've managed it before is using a client on the machine that sends the advertisements on it's behalf (Hanewin for example also can send as CDP then if you have cisco), rather than the default responses built in, which kind of defeated the point in the end (At least for my purposes) Steve

Can you get into recovery mode ok though? If you can open command prompt in recovery (not safemode), you can install/uninstall the USB drivers via cmd and then it should try to reinstall them on restart etc Steve

If it stops when it's in Windows only, either going to be the driver issue, bios settings if you got legacy usb set etc, or a duff update normally. KB4074588 broke USB devices last year, but I assume you have a newer build being deployed? (Think it was fixed in KB4090913) Can you get into recovery mode with USB working? When things like that happened before, it seems it's either a USB3 port that the driver isn't included for, and Windows isn't set to pull updates from online, but I guess if you've tried moving the ports it's affecting them all? Assuming you got a way to manually make it work (from your bios updating comment), can you get the product ID of the USB? (Like within device manager) There's often third party drivers that would work for them. Or manually set it to look for drivers on Windows Update just for one machine and see if it can pull one? Do you have any upstream proxies? (Like Grid wise etc) If so it auto fails as it can't get out of that proxy (assuming you need a proxy address which Smoothwall doesn't have for the "checks") and so we had to disable the external checks as it fails even though it works as you mentioned. There's no way that top one can be 1cm cell heights, unless you've changed the padding/font sizes etc too Looking at what you posted originally the top one isn't 1cm, the bottom is (Using your photos for scale as being lazy): "right" one, 12 cells = 14.x~ cm "wrong" one, 12 cells = 12 cm Even if it's set to 1cm don't forgot it'll change if there's something like font size/style/padding that makes it bigger (If you're using mailmerge etc maybe the formula etc) Steve

Do you mean drivers within your OS build? or for the Boot image? The drivers for the Boot image are just for the PE environment, which as you said often isn't needed, but depends on the hardware. However, sometimes during the updating the Boot image gets deleted/re-made so it'll lose those drivers. If you check your boot image (drivers tab) does it have any drivers currently attached? If so which ones? (Again just the boot image, not the OS) Steve

If they really have that small data usage, could you setup the backup server as part of your own infrastructure? (Assuming you have a VM HOST, just throw a new VM up etc) At least it'll be on proper hardware etc then, and easily expandable if they did need a bit more etc Obviously dependant on what storage you have "spare" etc, but at least you know it'd give them a full backup etc, and then could always offload any archives to something like the microserver with a straight 4 HDD raid Steve

Well depending on how the rest of the network is setup, if that server is your time server (at the school), and setting the other pcs (at school) time, can you get someone to tell you what the time is showing and then set your machine to that time temporarily? Do you have anything like a VNC/local remote software setup and can access another desktop at the school as that won't be affected by the time difference? Again can psexec change the time if you're able to connect to anything else on the network? Steve

Personally would only ever go for a HW raid (Assuming this is their only backup?) and a bigger setup (RAID 5/6 etc). 1TB backup across multiple schools is pretty small really Also, not sure if this is using cheaper HDDs or proper server ones but seems 256GB SSD is a bit of an overkill if you're only going to pay for a 1TB backup section? What do the primaries have locally in terms of storage/servers? Steve

If you're having any problems getting a program to work just turn on audit mode, and/or the pop-up alerts when something gets blocked. Then you'll see what gets hit/blocked. With Ransomware etc as it is there's really no reason not to be using a firewall on clients in this day and age (Server side ok that could be more problematic but getting clients tested shouldn't be) Not really sure what the argument about virus with admin logins is as 90% of ransomware doesn't use admin rights to spread/run so that's rather a null point imo (ok just an example with ransomware and there's "others" but point still provided ) Steve

Depending on how long the runs are have you considered using a proper cable cover/mat (rubber thingy). If it's going to be often used, and a new floor etc, can easily pick it up for £4-5 a metre and obviously reusable/no mess at all etc Steve
