Afternoon, Just been handed the setup instructions for EduLinkOne. Didn't know anything about it till this point, I'm only the network manager after all Just looking at the demo this morning and it does look good and the posts on EduGeek seem to rate it. Just wondering what lawful basis for article 6 and 9 you are using? Does EduLinkOne have the ability to stop processing data for those students 13 and above if they refuse consent. (if consent is the lawful basis) Cheers

All sorted now. I reinstalled Ubuntu, followed the same instructions to join it to the domain. This time it works All i can guess is that somewhere i had put a funky line of code in. so cheers for the help. One last question (for the moment) when any user logins in they are presented with the 'Welcome to Ubuntu' screen. Is there any way to turn it off for all users? Cheers

Ah not so easy! I have set the umask value to all sorts. 0077, 0777, 0644, 0666 etc etc. Changing the umask value makes no difference to the folder permissions

Good point! When an AD users logs in the home folders are created. The next AD user that logs in can open and read the first users folders and files. I want to stop each AD user being able to browse/open other users files /folders

It's sass being used. I can change skel=/etc/skel/ umask=0022 To skel=/etc/skeltest/ umask=0022 If I add some random thing to skeltest then login the user will pick up the new skel. So I know the line is being read at login but the umask seems to ignored

Hello, I have got my Ubuntu 18.10 joined to my domain using realmd. I can login using an AD account and a home drive get created under /home/Aduser. So far so good. But. The users home directory gets created with 755 (drwxr-xr-x) I have added to /etc/pam.d/common-session and / or /etc/pam.d/sshd session required pam_mkhomedir.so skel=/etc/skel/ umask=0022 But it makes no difference. (I have restarted after every change) I’m far from a Linux guru but would like to get this working. Any pointers would be great, I have googled for a couple of days so thought I would now try the experts!! Cheers

Evening, How often do you install windows updates to your servers? Have you increased the frequency since GDPR came into force. Reason being my wife works for a small company (Exchange server and DC and about 25 PC's) and has external IT support. The support company have been doing the windows server updates once a month, a service they pay for. The IT company are pushing hard for the updates to be done every 14 days, you guessed it at double the cost. They are saying its in compliance with GDPR because the ICO mentions "frameworks like Cyber Essentials." Cyber Essentials says that updates should be installed within 14 days of being released. Its not practial or affordable for a small company like my wife's to do this. Any thoughts?

Well, running the SQL repair seems to have done the job. I now have my office window open to let the smell of you know what out. cheers again

We had another power outage last night for 5 hours or so. The only server we are having a problem with is the SIMS server. Initially none of the SQL services would start but they did eventually. Form a client PC I can log into SIMS as can other users, but all is not well. This is the error I get if I click the “view Details” on the ‘my timeline’ panel If I try and make a change in my personal record, and click save I get this message ( I tried to change my staff record from ‘Mr’ to ‘Mrs’ ) The errors seem to point to msxmlsql.dll This file does exist in c:\program files\Microsoft SQL server\110\shared folder Rebooting the server has no effect. My sql version is Microsoft SQL Server 2012 (SP3) (KB3072779) - 11.0.6020.0 (X64) Anyone had any similar problem? Cheers

G'Day Ive used the below to check the homedrive folders against AD which then outputs to a txt file. I did then have another powershell script that reads the text file and deletes the folders, i cant find this at the moment as i am away. i'll have a look next week when im back. Update, I put this new UEFI only laptop on the same VLAN as the SCCM server, it booted, TS loaded and run, laptop now sitting happily with win 10 on it. This VLAN does have an IP helper address on it pointing to the SCCM server. So far so good. Teacher VLAN has IP helper address on pointing to the SCCM server, no extra DHCP settings. If I now put the laptop on this VLAN, it doesn’t work, I’m back to the image I posted before (above). If I now add in DHCP scope option 60,66 & 67. It now seems to work. I’ve compared the switch config and there is no difference between the way the two VLANs are setup Anyhow things seem to be working now, so thanks for the help

Cheers I have removed all the DHCP options still get this, but did see PXE-E16 error flash up

What am I doing wrong. I can’t get UEFI laptops to PXE boot. There are legacy setting in the BIOS. Other devices with legacy PXE all working as they should, I can images them from SCCM. I have IP helper address set pointing to my SCCM server. I have set the DHCP options 60, 66, 67 as shown. If I boot a UEFI laptop it gets to the screen ‘checking media’, ‘media present’ and then stops. Is there someting else i need to change in SCCM Cheers

I was using defender for two years controlled by SCCM. Then had a virus scare that spread a bit and made a part of my anatomy twitch. Defender didn't raise an eyebrow! But the legacy sophos that was still on some machines picked it up. That's what alerted me. Now gone back to sophos. Cheap ahen brought through the local authority.

Cheers, Just updated teh firmware, rebooted. New switch now in stack correctly

What am I doing wrong. Trying to add another member switch to an existing 2920 stack. The existing stack has two members (one commander and one standby) not had any problems with this stack for years. For expansion I need to add another member (2920) No matter what I seem to do the new switch boots and thinks it’s a ‘commander’ and not join the existing stack. Things I have tried. Removed the stacking module, factory reset the switch. No other cables connected I have powered the new switch and of course the ‘stacking’ is disabled. I have then put the stack module in the new switch and then connected one of the stacking cables into the module. Then I have enabled stacking, which reboots the switch when the switch is alive I comes up as a commander with a piroty of 128 The existing stack has not changed. I have also tried the above but this time on the existing stack I have added the new member before connecting the new member Same result. Gone through the same process but connected both stacking cables with the same result. Diagram attached I have removed this new switch and taken it to another hub room to add it to a stack in there, worked straight away. Could it be a firmware difference. The existing stack switches have a firmware of 15.X.x.x. The new switch has a firmware of 16.x.x
