I've installed a few large-scale CCTV systems in my time; the next one happens to be this summer break! In summary, be careful with regards to Ubiquiti. Their cameras and software do receive high praise - and the prices of their equipment is incredibly tempting - but Ubiquiti is not ONVIF compatible. This means you cannot mix and match camera manufacturers on a Ubiquiti system, which isn't the end of the world. However by not choosing to be ONVIF compatible, Ubiquiti have turned their backs on the one organisation that ensures there is a global open standard for physical IP-based security products. Why would you do that? Suffice to say, if you install a large Ubiquiti system and the company decides to cease making cameras, you're somewhat stuffed if you want to extend or replace cameras! I didn't look into this, but Ubiquiti also produce switches. Do you need to use their switches in conjunction with their cameras/NVR, or does the equipment run through any manufacturer of switch? I personally like Avigilon, but this is a more expensive solution. For one of our schools this summer, we've opted for a 40 camera HIKVision system. Good specs, good software, good price! ONVIF compatible too. Another school local to us has just installed a very similar HIKVision system, so be sure to check them out!

From my conversations with Civica, you're pretty much spot on! The upgrading of the tills (at one site ours are SP850 units) is relatively cheap. The expensive bit is the project management costs, which includes moving the back-end from a desktop computer to a virtual server. Also, we need to upgrade to Version 8 of the software (from Version 6). Another big expenditure. In regards to the other school I manage, whereby the tills are a decade old, we're replacing the lot! I've secured a decent discount based on the two jobs being completed as one job ...

In regards to finance packages, we've moved over to SAGE! Corero is in desperate need of an update!

Bump! Anyone else experienced similar?

Morning all! A bit of an odd one ... I'm now supporting a school that has their SIMS hosted at Capita. I've been informed that the SIMS .net application itself has a tendency to flicker when in use, but more alarmingly, it also possesses the ability to push itself to the top of all open applications! Essentially, a teacher could have sensitive data open in SIMS, for it to then pop up in front of all other applications and display on the classroom projector! I'll more than likely need to raise this with Capita Support. However I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced similar and if so, did you or Capita ever manage to fix the issue? SLT are quite keen to bring SIMS back onsite again. Even though it means increased management from our perspective, I personally think this might be a worthwhile move.

@azureusnation ... How old were your tills? What software version were you running previously to the upgrade? If we can just upgrade the till hard drives to SSD/Win 10/Version 8, that'll be a huge saving for us.

@robk ... We're currently using NRS V2, but Civica/NRS have suggested we replace our entire system. @mdrabble ... Same! The cashless server/biometric store is a Windows 7 desktop. I've inquired with Civica/NRS to see whether our existing tills can be upgraded at a lower cost than replacing the entire system. If not, then we will have to bite the bullet and replace the lot, which may not be a bad thing. However I believe the cashless catering system at the other school I manage is approximately 3-4 years old. As such, I reckon the tills could either be upgraded to Windows 10/Version 8, or we pay for the Sync2 upgrade. £300 is more manageable than £10,000!

Morning all! There is one other thread running on this exact topic, but it seems to have gone quiet. Essentially, we've received a message from ParentPay stating that TLS 1.0 will be no longer supported from October 2018 onwards. I contacted the number mentioned in the email for further confirmation, which directed me to NRS/Civica technical support. The support representative has suggested that we replace our entire cashless catering system at a cost of approximately £10,000! Granted, the system is almost 10 years old, uses 'Version 2' of Nationwide's till software and runs on an operating system that is some variant of Windows XP mobile. However the till system works really well and as usual, there is a shortage of cash to replace old hardware that continues to work. Another cashing catering company mentioned that this could be negated by simply upgrading the 'backroom server/computer' to Windows 10. Is that correct? Otherwise, I guess we may have to bite the bullet. I also manage another secondary school, which has a 3 year old NRS cashless catering system running 'Version 6'. I imagine that this site could upgrade to Sync2 for c.£300 to allow future connections via TLS 1.2? If anyone has any information regarding the above, it would be hugely appreciated!

Do you use a GPO to enforce this, or some specific software package? -
Interesting! I've just searched for this exact topic and found this thread! Our Reprographics Manager arranged the replacement of 3 photocopiers in three data-sensitive areas over the half term break - I was on hand to help with the technical side of things. I'm rarely involved with photocopiers, unless there is a driver/network scan or e-mail issue. However yesterday I received a call from Ricoh stating that the 'Secure30' option had not been ticked. News to me! Upon explanation, it did sound like a service that we would be interested in, considering the existing printers were used in areas where confidential files will have been scanned/photocopied. However the price of £349 per machine was laughable! I managed to knock the price down to £199 per machine - FYI It's still an incredible amount for data destruction. It would be cheaper for us to borrow a drill from the Site Team and do it ourselves! What are the legalities? If the machine is rented/leased and returned to Ricoh, is it not in their interest to wipe the data? Is it not now their responsibility as to how the data is handled/destroyed? We have absolutely no budget whatsoever; dire straights in terms of finances. It feels as though we're been fleeced!

Apologies for the delay in replaying, but the sync tool works wonders! It's perfect and works with calendars too. Spot on! Thanks Dan! Have a great long weekend everyone!

Hi ZeroHour! Outlook on Windows is version 2010. Whilst trying on my iPhone, I just used the standard Apple Mail app. Essentially, I was attempting to test the settings recommended on the pages above, but on an unfiltered connection. I could try the settings again on Outlook 2010, but tether my phone to bypass our firewalls etc. However it seems as though something else is amiss?

Morning all! Sounds fairly simple, but I'm struggling. Essentially, we're looking to move from Exchange/Outlook to G Suite and G-Mail. However the majority of SLT would love to continue using Outlook to access their e-mails. I'm currently testing with my own account, whereby I have enabled both POP and IMAP in my G-Mail account. However if I try to connect Outlook to my G-Mail account - using a variety of different addresses/ports - nothing works! These are the resources I've checked with: https://support.google.com/mail/answer/7126229?hl=en Configure Microsoft Outlook For Gmail - Manual Settings I've checked our firewall settings and I've also asked our third party support company to double check too. I'm able to connect to my G-Mail account on my iPhone by choosing 'Google' as the account type, but if I choose 'other' and type in the usual addresses/ports for POP or IMAP connection, I receive the error message attached. This is on a mobile data connection, eliminating our firewall/network as the issue. Has anyone seen this before or knows what causes this message? I can't see anything obvious in G Suite! Help!
