  1. Great mod the other server I've been playing in is using for minimap and way-points: [1.2.5] [Jun.23] Rei's Minimap v3.2_04 - Minecraft Forum
  2. They now have a list of mods included in tekkit and links to wikis and original websites
  3. What mod do edugeek use which allows teleporting with /sethome /home /back and send player requests?
  4. Last night I began playing in a server using tekkit, the sheer number of craft items and mineable resources is crazy and over welming a first. I've began constructing my wireless mining turtle which requires a wireless modem, a computer and a diamond pick axe. You can then program the robot with commands to auto mine You only need to begin looking on the wiki to see the scale they've added Anyone here have experience using tekkit? Tekkit | Technic Pack
  5. Just unpacked 20 computers and sending an image as we speak, I need some teachers like yours is so time consuming opening them all and throwing away the packaging multiple trips to the recycling the other side of our school, more coming next week but I'll be gone then every teacher that has been past the window as I'm setting them up has asked for a new computer and whats happening with the old ones as theirs at home is slow. Must be so hard to buy a new one if I didn't know any better I'd assume its impossible from what our staff say
  6. I've been considering buying a small server for testing, learning and practicing s08r2 management and looking around these little HP ProLiant Turion II N40L microservers look like a nice small option currently with a £100 cashback offer totaling £150. Wondering if anyone here had any advice on looking for a small piece of kit, its hardware requirements are not high as I said its more so for me to play around and test with at home and the price is attractive! Spec: - AMD Turion II Neo N40L / 1.5GHz - 2GB DDR3 SDRAM - HDD 1x 250GB
  7. I'd be grateful if someone could explain the proper configuration and methods for setting up word templates for a domain environment as I believe ours is incorrect or follows bad practice and has been in place before I started here my first job in IT so its the only method I've been familiar with. All our students share the same mandatory profile and the current setup is set using group policy shared paths Both the user templates and workgroup templates are set to USERPROFILE\appdata\microsoft\template this path contains only the normal.dotm set to read only, from what I read this file should be be shared and each user should have their own normal.dotm but how would this be configured on mandatory profiles? Would the shared path just be set to the mapped homedrive OR \\server\share$\%username% and let word create the templates itself then use a shared folder for the workgroup with read only? I want to set the default font and font size plus a few other configurations including auto-text for the author name in a footer for all new documents created, I have a template with this setup but need to know the best practice to use
  8. Maybe so but I'd rather do that still
  9. I'd recommend choosing almost any alternative to save yourself hassle with format problems and crashing issues such as those K.C.Leblanc suggested
  10. Well App-V looks like a possible future investment but with only 2 weeks left working here and other IT staff been limited on their hours during the summer I plan to just setup some new ghost images they can deploy during the holidays. Awaiting reply of departments now gave them some lists of their software anything not on or anything I'm not informed about by next week will not be on, simples
  11. You could just use a GPO startup script on workstations to remove the registry. Is there any need to disable safe mode tho?
  12. More science but Nikola tesla A more ICT based poster.... And something Apple related Ok maybe more for the office then lab, I'm tempted to order some!
  13. Thanks for the advice, all those folders are in the mandatory profile shared by all students. One thing worth noting, our students passwords are set to expire and did monday so all users are having to change their password at logon, this started the same time as the my documents issue. today I've had 1 student with this problem, I logged the student off asked him to log on again...same issue. Tryed another students account on the computer and that worked fine. Changed the 1st students password and got him to try a 3rd time, yay it all worked fine! Another problem with our students intranet homepage has occurred since the passwords began expiring. "The requested URL could not be retrieved, unable to determine IP address from host name DC1 Dns server returned Server failure: the name server was unable to process this query. This means that: The cache was not able to resolve the hostname present in the URL" Generated by our proxy which uses NTFS integrated authentication All cases I've had with that are password expired students who changed them that session! All students who changed their password previously have no problems *touch wood* should all of changed their passwords by the end of this week......ready to forget them over summer
  14. Oh I have noticed just a matter of dragging its users kicking and screaming! Its only really science and maths with alot of software but most the time its mymaths or internet usage I dont think half the software gets used more then a couple of times per year but then you have the argument "well we brought it so we must have it on the system"......yea 10years+ ago in some cases. My biggest complaint is how out of date some software is, departments here are responsible for purchasing software but must consult us first where we will advise them and look into licenses. We are still running macromedia studio 8 and trying to push the upgrade!
  15. That time of year I'm beginning to make the new images before moving job ready for the new tech to deploy over the 6 weeks. Looking at our software lists dam there is alot of rubbish, thankfully a large quantity is on our file server rather then clients but I'm trying to clean up older software such as Wsmile, DLK Maths and Starspell 2001 to name a few. How do you guys sort out what software to deploy? I'm currently writing up lists for each department regarding what software they use, if anything is missed off the list they must inform me in the next week otherwise it won't be on their computers come September. Not only would I like to bring image size down and decrease software but the inital image creation would be much better with some older software having odd setups and problems once deployed for some users. Edit: Just to include we use Ghost for our images
  16. Is it able to boot in safe mode, rule out some software and driver problems then before changing startup programs and drivers. Can you log on to these laptops as a local user? How about a AD user with a different profile and GPOs maybe try a blank GPO and profile?
  17. The editors picked reader comment below that article is great in very much Oatmeal style
  18. Had a few cases of printers not working and staff just shoving them to another departments, ok it doesn't affect cost but why not just let us know first!
  19. Hodgehi- I have edited my first post to include a few more details including the results of the event viewer. RSOP also displays the same 'The directory name is invalid' error
  20. Often the increase in weight seems to be water weight. If I drink a few liters of water a day Ill be lighter the next day, jeans are still a 36" rather then 42" despite having put some back on despite putting 10lbs on from my lowest. My eating habbits have changed but I've also been eating out alot recently so choosing the slightly healthier options as I always do now e.g. chicken breast and jacket potato rather then a mixed grill and chips, large burgers with bacon double cheese etc.... Checking calorie and fat content of food is something I still continue to do but when eating out mainly at gastro pub chains its that much harder
  21. I've just had two cases of students unable to access their documents via the redirected My Documents icon on their desktop, when clicked they receive an error saying 'Unable to due to restrictions on this computer' however if they open or save as work they are able to use my computer then select the mapped drive for their documents. Permissions are fine and no changes have been made. GP is set to redirect to the users home directory granting exclusive rights to My Documents for all students. This has only happened to a select few, other students have also used the same computers before and after without any problems. Checking the event log I get: Failed to perform redirection of folder My Documents. The folder is configured to be redirected from to <\\DC1\Students$\2011\Student11W>. The following error occurred: The directory name is invalid. The directory is valid, I logged on as a local admin account and copied the redirection path from event logs into explorer and entered a student account as the user which allowed me access. If anyone has any ideas I'd be grateful as its very busy today! Event logs also show the redirected start menus and desktops both to the same DC\shell$ work perfectly.
  22. I'd say apply, it sounds like progression and what you're looking for. It also sounds like you're bored with the current environment you work in and want more of a challenge. Listen to what Witch has said don't think too hard about it just apply then wait to hear back about an interview if nothing comes of it then no worry just keep an eye out for other more fitting positions to what you want
  23. Well I've not had much progress recently but I've been going biking twice a week doing a 7mile mountain bike trial route and I've also began rock climbing (mainly bouldering) once a week which you really do feel the next couple of days! weight hasn't really changed since last September It went down to just over 200lbs but back at around 214lbs now some of this is muscle I assume as I began doing alot more weights at the gym but having not been to the gym for near 2months I've began going out much more as I enjoy it and overall burn alot more going out for 2-3hours on the bike. Diet has gone to pot tho eating w/e recently but about to change that again bringing lunch to work rather then going tescos most days, nice Chilli jam and chicken breast in a weight watchers wrap today, 2L bottle of water also on my desk must drink more water!
  24. As portal is set in the same universe could we expect to see Glados and Aperture science making an appearance soon?
