    Snow!

Dread to think what the roads around Ironbridge are like, they were bad enough in much lighter snow when I worked in Broseley.

    Snow!

Sorted, you're all lieing no snow fell today, I for one have no windows in the office and refuse to move into a colder room with windows. Until leaving time and having to push the car home in huge snow drifts! Only then will I admit I was wrong

  10. Well just walking into one of our IT suites I've had a member of staff ask if they could stream a radio station for their lesson this morning on the last day, said I wasn't sure if it was blocked to staff or not off the top of my head, she then said "I dont have speakers on this PC, does that make a difference?" ................................................... Happy Christmas all, its the last day so no dumb support query should put us down!
  11. Lets hope so I really like the new outlook.com UI
  12. Or a 32GB nexus 7 or £20 more
  13. Don't think you will find a tablet ideal for this purpose to be honest, the Microsoft surface tablets are around but possibly not the best for annotations. I'd stick with a laptop if you can convince her or maybe a touch screen ultrabook windows 8 spinny screen jobby for best of both.... I'd be interested to hear if you find anything better for the task, I don't have much experience with the galaxy notes tbh

  15. Real men waste hours climbing over, around and through cable knotted piles in these situations, who needs to tidy!
  16. We currently run cisco CUCM business edition and Unity, I'm looking to change a configuration for the voicemail addressing but uncertain where this settings is or how to do it if its not just a GUI option. When a voicemail is listened to Unity will read the senders directory name or play their recorded personal name but if its a number not in our directory such as external calls we just get the automated message Message from *queue robot voice* 'unity connection messaging system' Ideally we would like this to read out the senders number and Google attempts have led me to other things normally related to recording personal greetings or other settings for VOIP phones which I'm not looking to configure.
  17. Distributed this using an .msi and GPO without any issues for use of codeacademy.com, worked great! Offical guides can be found here Chrome Frame Administrator's Guide - The Chromium Projects
  18. Just create a folder on the server and share this, then use windows NTFS security to add these desired permissions per user or per group as desired.
  19. I would like to add all the normal office content types to all library's site wide or even collection wide rather then uploading a template for ever library in the site, could anyone recommend a quick and easy way to do this? I'm expecting being Microsoft there is no 'quick and easy' way to do a simple task!
  20. We are currently piloting the idea of moving office use and documents to the cloud for our students, all the behind the scenes stuff has been configured and all is looking good however I'm now looking at SharePoint now. The aim is to have students working either in the web based office or local client and saving to the cloud, staff should be able to either view this work or students can share this work with staff. My question is what is the best practice for setting up a 365 based work area, each user has their own personal documents, could this be the best way allowing uploading to that then asking students to share documents to the required staff? Would working in a library with views locked to only allow viewing of documents uploaded by that student with a different view for staff showing all content and the ability to search the document library? How about a library for each department with a similar setup to the above but keeps things more secure possibly with department/subject staff only been able to view that area? I'd be interested to hear how other cloud goers have structured this or any recommendations you might have.

  23. I'm currently looking into the use of google apps and playing around with some of the settings. I have created some dummy student and staff accounts and made a few documents on the staff account to share with students. While I can share to a student by entering their account one by one I would like to share a file to say a year or a department all at once. Groups seemed like the best solution to this so I created a group added a few students and tryed to share a file with that group account. This kind of works but not how I'd like, the group members recieve an email informing them they have a newly shared document and a URL to access it however this shared document does not appear in that users google drive shared files meaning users must keep safe that email or URL for access. Having looked at settings and a quick google of the problem I found a couple of people in the same situation but most articles were dated 2010 with no results. I suppose the other solution is use shared folders with the appropriate permissions however this doesn't show up when shared to groups either and must be entered per user but wouldnt require adding all users each time a new document is placed in the folder. Does anyone have any improvements or suggestions relating to this? Surely the email only group share isn't a good sharing method for any more then a couple of users?
  24. Looks good jamesfed, I was looking at that exact ram and ssd for my home PC last night
  25. Im looking at setting up a smallish home setup to learn more on hypervisor and VM stuff as its what I'm using at my new job....or will be anyway. Could anyone recommend any setups I've been told a HP Proliant G5> tower would be a decent balance in terms of performance and value and work do tend to use Proliant gear. No clear distinctions as to what I plan on doing yet just playing around and learning as I go rather then messing on our live NW
