At my previous job we had stone support on the desktops, must say they were always next day on site and can't fault them for that altho some of the hardware had very common faults including the micro case fronts which were always breaking which I wouldn't put down to damage as the the heads, 3 members of SLT and two staff office ones all broke, thankfully after several emails they send me a box of them out so I could swap them over as originally they sent someone on site each time to click on a new front! Their engineers are very helpful and knowledgeable too!

I'd personally avoid netbooks if you plan on just running on that hardware without any form of vdi setup and for that price you'll struggle to find any decent spec. As fiza said most companys have gone away from them. I would recommend the Dell Vostro series for a low end well built laptop with much higher quality then any netbook I've come across, fairly recessed keys plus spill resistance, easy to maintain, simple part replacement and not too bad for their price. Netbooks are a nightmare for on siet repairs they are often cheaply made and designed to not come apart with ease often requiring EVERYTHING to be removed for simple repairs, a batch of EEE's we have require the whole thing to be taken apart to swap the HDD over them and the Bios batterys died after 2 years plus the plastic feels dead cheap and flimsy. We have around 30 vostro v131's now about 3 years old and nothing has gone wrong on 1 of them, just accidental damage of screens which cost around £40 to buy and 2 minutes to fit, couple of damaged keys which have been easy to repair as the deep key style means they often just click back on.

Having worked for a small computer repair shop just myself and the owner I worked at part time week days and weekends while at university you will have many many examples of awkward customers expecting super service for penny's or complaining about how you overcharged for some repairs, we set a list of fixed rates for common jobs we could easily repair on products like reinstalls, cloud storage account setup and backup, laptop screen replacements, charger socket repairs etc and charged an hourly rate for other jobs and call outs. We used to do well on local letter drops the local paper kids delivered and local area news letters. In fact we did better from these then more expensive paper adverts and again online presence, see how you appear for local searchs on different shop locators, review sites etc.. The problem is most callouts are so mundane silly problems for home users they are almost not worth while, very few would be an hour long, most would be stuff like settings up their home network, connecting all their devices to their wi-fi and making sure it was protected, AV installs, windows OS upgrades etc. It also opens your eyes to how many 'normal' people think they are IT wizards and how many use amazingly outdated computers, printers and monitors. In the end after nearly 2 years the shop was offered to me at a cheap rate by the landlord but I declined as I had just been contacted for a few IT Technician interviews, 2 months after I left it closed. The store did see profit but not enough to make it worth while. You probably wont gain any experience other then customer service skills I'm afraid IMO but it keeps people busy I suppose best of luck!

I know of schools who have gone down this route including one that fired their IT staff to outsource it then a couple years later changed who they outsourced it to. Turns out this 2nd contract was an IT support company started by the original tech after he was made redundant and they've been with them about 4 years now. The support company in question has someone based at larger school contracts such as this at all times, a day to day tech. The school has around 1300 students and 400 devices plus the normal projectors, smart boards etc... Smaller schools such as primary's are a weekly visit or pop in unless its an emergency, all schools are fairly local and tend to have someone in a permanent base school within 10 miles who sometimes will visit other sites if required, works pretty well for them but that's small scale compared to most outsource contracts.

Truly shocking IMO

having owned a mk1 focus, a mk4 fiesta ZS, a fiesta mk6.5 ZS TDCI and a 2.0 ST I can say the nicest to drive was the focus and far far better build and ride then the mk4 fiesta. I did really enjoy the mk6.5 ZS TDCI it was lowered 30mm on eibachs so it had no body roll and handled amazing but resulted in a very harsh ride.

Dont bother with the Fiesta ST they are thirsty yet not all that powerful, my mates £400 1993 polo with a few mods was quicker (bike carbs and different head) Not much over £2k can get you an Cooper-S which has buckets of power and crazy supercharger noise. All for this price range will be terrible on fuel, the focus TDCI 115 + remap is fun and around 140bhp plus handles loads better then a Fabia

Same as my first programming book about 3 years ago, still haven't read it all as it was recommended by the uni and I opted for online tutorials.

Seems like the only logical method in my opinion, only $5 per student or maybe he will do a site user license for a discount!

Having contacted AirServer support they replied very quickly with what I expected having already looked into the Apple TV Route that is Yes it will support multiple Vlan networks but bonjour by default will be blocked, now at the stage of looking into this

Does anyone have more details on air servers support of Vlans or first hand experience of cross Vlan use? Any more information on licensing? A number of our computers are provisioned so this might prove an issue depending how it's handled, little information is given on the AirServer website.

Spotted that too, would look odd mounted to a wall too IMO. How secure is the little slide out bracket for stacking them? Could this be used to secure to a fastening point? Its a nice easy carry gift box for a thief too, maybe add a little bow?
