Probably irrelevant (yes its me) but when I worked for a big business there was policy that anyone (below a certain rank) was entitled to 2 hours pay if they responded in any way - although - "no sorry I'm busy" was not counted! so - change password - time taken 5 minutes including starting PC - pay 2 hours if it takes longer than 2 hours to fix - you get the extra as well - over 2 hours it clocks up to 3 even if only 1 minute over after a while they wanted me to carry a bleeper - pre mobile clearly as per policy this entitled me to a minimum of 3 claims for calls a week - whether they were made or not I made a fortune out of that!!! but it did mean people took notice of me being on call 24/7 and eventually did something about it now - I do not suggest that a school should do this but if they are allowed - or do - have the ability to ring you when you are not at work then you should get paid for it - SMT get paid to be available at all times but they forget that site staff who are key holders get extra pay I really think there should be a national policy on this maybe a Union (NEU???) could petition for this??? err - Damn - now I think about it - maybe I should contact them and see what they think anyone supporters - ??? MODS - is it OK to just post below or should I start a new thread

I think there is often a problem in school because teachers are generally expected to work whatever hours it takes to do the job - and as most management tend to be teachers they forget that other staff members do work on the same terms and conditions Hence they just assume that if you are needed then you should be available but then you get people being criticised for being unavailable due to pre arranged events There should be an arrangement where you can be rung - but you can refuse to deal with the problem with no blame or comeback how you get to that is anyone's guess!

If it considered to be essential that someone is available for longer than normal hours then it should be paid for There have been quite a few people come on here and say the 'total necessity' of out-of-hours availability seemed to reduce dramatically when they realised they had to pay for it!!!! I also should point out that a lot of people have been working more than their contracted hours due the Covid problems - which is fine in an emergency If SMT start acting as if this is now normal and is just expected then it should be pointed out that this was done 'for the good of the school in an emergency' and taking advantage of peoples' good will one the emergency is over is not acceptable Unions should crop up in the conversation at about that point!!!

Just checked as I was unsure of the details apparently we are supposed to put plastic bottle (except black) and glass containers of any kind - but we are supposed to put the tops back on first dunno why - I'm sure there is a good reason

It's not a problem or a chore but are you supposed to do it??? it the recycling company uses a camera to detect bottle shapes - then it the top is off (as it is a different type of plastic) then the bottle will probably get crushed and may not be seen as a bottle shape metal tops on glass bottle is probably easier - but some more guidance from the companies would be helpful on top of which - it probably differs from on place to another so guidance I get here may not be relevant in other areas I get confused

Mrs mikeprice rang her sister this evening to have a chat she has her vaccine booked (that is us kneeling thanking the gods for her not seeing $stuff on Facebook) her husband has already had his - my knees are getting sore at this point at which point said husband walks into hearing saying - "and now apparently it causes clots" no - clots have the vaccine - just bare you arm and think of England FFS - family!!!!! Oh and as an extra - their son has just had a 'gender revel' thing - apparently it is a girl - sister-in-law REALLY has wanted a grandkid - she os great with kids and has had to put up with visits from ours until now soon she will have one of her own!!!!

lids are a whole 'nother problem do I leave hard plastic lids on soft plastic bottle or not the leaflet seemed to imply I should leave them on so the bottle didn't get squashed and still looked like a bottle to the camera thingy but then some hard plastic contaminates the soft plastic waste and what about lids on wine bottles???? the lid is perfectly recyclable - as is the bottle but of the lid is on the bottle????? I have no clue the main problem is that is people are confused then the chuck it all in the general landfill bin and if you try to get people to put everything in seperate bins they get confused and don't bother when I lived in North Wales - a woman from Anglesey was fined because she refused to separate her rubbish in any way - just filled up bins however but she had 11 different waste containers to put stuff in!!!! At least I only have 2 - although when I was living in Conwy In had about 4 and managed fine

A couple of years ago we got the council tax bill - and with it was a leaflet from the recycling company that receives the blue recycling bins It described in detail what they could and couldn't recycle - which cleared things up a lot e.g. as far as plastic is concerned - they can recycle all plastic bottles - except black ones The reasons for this is that the bottles are sorted out by a system with a camera - if it sees a plastic bottle it grabs it somehow and it gets recycled - the camera can;t see black bottles - hence they don't get recycled also - if it doesn't look like a bottle the system won't see it as recyclable and so it does grab it hence cartons, trays etc etc may be made of the same material as a bottle but the system won't recycle it - so it should go into the landfill bin. or - better still - go to the tip where there is a skip that attempts to recycle more stuff - apparently It also doesn't want any 'contaminated' cardboard corrupts the cardboard recycling systems and must not go in the blue bin - this includes pizza boxes and anything else that is greasy The main thing I noticed is that a lot of containers that say they can be recycled should not go in the recycling bin!!!! naturally I am the only person I have found who actually read the leaflet and took it in - everyone else I have spoken to either didn't read it or just skimmed it and forget the details people ey!

If it is the actual music (other words are available for some of it) then if you can play it you can intercept it with e.g. Audacity and record it yourself (I don't think I am telling any secrets there???) I don't think they can prevent that sort of thing no matter what they do????

can it be noted that I have not commented on the last 2 example or - to be accurate - I have commented but deleted it before replying FAR to froggy love them both though

Just looking at another forum on the WWW which is also discussing vaccine stuff Someone on there ha s daughter who is due to go back to university - so she rang to to check some details apparently they are all supposed to have a test - but if they don;t have the test then that is just fine - no action possible so - from the viewpoint of a student have a test - negative - wheeeee of you go positive - imprisoned in you room for WEEKS on end in spite of a possibility of it being a false positive and anyway - it won;t kill you (probably) refuse the test - wheeee - off you go I can see there being a significant number of students that may not take the test based on the above logic not, by a long way, the majority rather than looking at the wider picture no idea what you do about it - refusing them access to the Uni if they refuse the test would probably be unacceptable??

As a historical point Many years ago - i.e. before computers were a thing outside universities and military and stuff - my Dad commented that my Grandad had received a letter from a 'firm of solicitors' in London Apparently they were dealing with the residual parts of the will of Henry 8th's last wife - Catherine Parr Now - my Dad's Mum's maiden name was Parr But she has died several years before - sooo anyway - the letter claimed that they were tracking down people with a surname of Parr and checking if they are potentially entitled to the inheritance - and my Gran had been identified as a possible recipient so there are 2 possibilities a) I am 'quite closely' related to the Royal family - and you lot should really treat me with more respect or b) scams and phishing are far older than the WWW or course - if (a) is actually true then it would explain 'a certain person' seeming to have an urge to turn me into a frog - there are precedents!!! of course - this post could be seen as an attempt to get 'certain people' to wander off topic - by 'some other people' but of course that was never my intention

What gets me is the number of times I get pretty much the same phone call today it was the old OFCOM saying the internet line will be disconnected - press 1 to talk to BT a few weeks ago it was the Amazon Prime one but we get a load exactly the same for a week or two - before they stop Once the get a failure - especially if they actually talk to someone who makes it clear they know it is a scam - surely the chances of success on that number can now be seen to be about zero - so why try again?? Presumably they have data that shows it sometimes works - maybe they are hoping to get a different person???
