As denon said - if work are paying, why not? Looks like a pretty comprehensive syllabus I've been working through Think Python - bought the ebook through B&N not because I particularly needed it, more as a donation because it's good.

Not sure why you'd bother - modern printers draw about 5w when they go to sleep.

Yes. Hargreaves Lansdowne's website melted due to their inability to predict the entirely predictable rush of users wanting to use it. I sold late Fri afternoon at £4.52 - naturally they were worth more than that when I last looked but I never planned to hang on to them.

The car industry / motor lobby will get the Tories to kill this for sure. Even though it's quite reasonable.

For the record, I applied using some money in an isa which was earning less than inflation - otherwise known as devaluing. The missus will kill me if it all goes pear shaped but I think it's worth a punt.

So, who's buying? Despite disagreeing with the whole idea, it looks like there's some fairly easy profit to be had. 6% dividend and an over subscribed issue - combined with the fact that cash ISAs and savings accounts are making about 2% makes it rather tempting imho. Midnight Tues is the deadline - anybody else thinking about it?

Vmware esxi on bare metal (£free), vSphere to manage it (£free). Add whatever OSs you want. -
Well done AMLightfoot - I knew somebody would try to turn it into a bl00dy cyclists thread.

15 - get in. No explanation yet for my complete inability to choose colours that look good together.

I've just had another round of "is it ok if we use sparklebox?" and emailed the head to offer my opinion ("No. Not at school or at home."). Kinge is still a director of sparklebox (SPARKLEBOX TEACHER RESOURCES LIMITED. Free and instant access to Director and Shareholder details. Credit Reports online instantly.) so as far as I'm concerned, we should stay away. A googling of string "SparkleBox Teacher Resources Ltd site:whois.domaintools.com" pulls up some more sites registered by sparklebox. SparkleBox.org.uk - Sparkle Box SparkleBox.me.uk - Welcome to SparkleBox SparklePlus.co.uk - Welcome to SparkleBox SparkleBoxRes.co.uk - Sparkle Box Res SparkleBox2.co.uk - 1000s FREE Primary Teaching Resources & Printables - SparkleBox KS2 There may be more..

Amazon do a free use tier which has enough hours included to get an EC2 machine powered up for a year. I used it for a year and turned mine off for the last time last month - it was great but I don't need EC2 enough to pay for it atm. Try Cloud Computing Free with AWS Free Tier

AKA £30 with postage. I see that's a single LED light. Does it give a decent spread of light or is it all concentrated in one spot? Currently weighing up single vs multi led lights. Runtime? Do cars coming the other way flash their lights at you?
-
.. but if you do want lots of lumens, search ebay for "t6 bike light". At £20ish I think I'm going to have to give them a go. Mat

Nominet is the registrar iirc but other companies will deal with them. CS New Media did a good job moving one of mine over. And to echo earlier comments, when I see .sch.uk , I think 'school'. When I see '.co.uk', I think 'business'. Depends what you want to project. As for 'it's too long' - domains are a bit like phone numbers. I rarely have to type or remember them because machines remember for me.

Ha - well spotted!

Got it in one. Speeding is antisocial, but most people think it's a harmless crime.

Most NASs are just linux boxes with management stuff on already. Keep the Pi for playing with, you probably don't need it for a ftp server.

If you're on a RM / BT connection, rebooting the adsl box might sort it.. -
[news] BBC News: Ban packed lunches, head teachers urged
mats replied to Gatt's topic in Jokes/Interweb Things
At risk of going off topic - "Ban packed lunches because they're not healthy enough" on the same day as "We're not going to put fags in plain packaging because our mates in the fag industry are worried about their profits. They only kill half their customers after all". I'll leave it there for now. -
Thanks for the delayed response! Restarting networking or the whole machine didn't help, I had to check a box somewhere to make nautilus auto-start. I hate to say it, but windoze updates don't tend to stop the desktop starting up properly..!

What static electricity? Leave it plugged in so the case is earthed if you're paranoid about it. Hadn't realised the dyson was only good for 15 mins, although if it's any good it will clear a few PCs in that time.

pfSense + Squid or just Squid
mats replied to SovietRussia's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Smoothwall and its derivative ipCop have filtering & firewall functions. Both free and pretty easy to set up.
