How do you message all users at once ad hoc?
DevilsAdvocate replied to soveryapt's topic in How do you do....it?
This isn't something we've had to do here but if staff are using personal e-mail for work I would certainly consider doing this, just for their own protection! -
Distance from home to work: 16.4 miles Time: ~1hour down the M6. Distance from girlfriends to work: 2.6 miles Time: 10mins. I much prefer stopping over at hers!

How do you message all users at once ad hoc?

We use our classroom management software (Impero) if we need to do it. -
Hi all, We have 4-5 fairly old hardware servers being used as file servers (totalling about 6TB of data). I want to try and cut down on the amount of these and centralise the storage of the data (with redundancy of course). What is my best solution here? I'd still like to keep the separate server structure so would presumably need to look into virtualising them? What kind of hardware should I be looking at? We are running mainly HP equipment so would prefer to stick to that and Microsoft software if we can. Thanks in advance.

Whenever we have done this we have to empty the auto-complete list on the Outlook client before it sends correctly. It's looking for an old GUID I believe.

I used Plex and an app for Samsung TV. Found it clunky at times and have just switched to XBMC, much better in my opinion.

Watchguard XTM 5 + iTunes Store
DevilsAdvocate posted a topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Hi guys, Don't know if anyone else has experienced this, but we have a Watchguard Firewall in place and I'm having trouble getting the iTunes store to work through the staff HTTP(S) Proxy. Traffic monitor is showing nothing being blocked/stripped and I have exceptions in for *apple.com and *iTunes.com. There's no weblocker policy or application control policy in place to prevent this either. The store seems to load but I just get a blank white page, can login to iTunes fine but still the same. If I click on the tabs above (Music, Movie) the background colour changes like it should, but zero content. Can anyone offer any suggestions? It works fine when using our non-filtered HTTP(S) policy, but I'm reluctant to stick people on this outside of the server room. Thanks in advance. -
We have a group policy setup to create folders like so on a Media share. The students can only see their own. Staff is the same but they have access to the Student media files also. We currently have 619 students on roll and 130 staff.

We have the following in place - Staff Home Drive - 15GB each (Soft) Staff Media Drive - 25GB each (Soft) Student Home Drive - 5GB each (Hard) Student Media Drive - 10GB each (Hard) We have file-screening in place also to make sure media files can only be saved into the Media drives. Most get nowhere near the limits and then there are a small handful (staff) who go way over - our performing arts manager is currently 2017% over the 25GB limit!

Staff Share loses connection on laptops

Do you get any kind of error message when attempting to connect to the staff share drive after you wake the laptop from sleep? -

No idea how much difference this setting makes as I've always enabled it, but do you have the 'reconnect' setting checked on your staff share mapped drive? -

Smartboard calibration issues
DevilsAdvocate replied to rickjames's topic in AV and Multimedia Related
We had to swap out a board yesterday that was reporting an error in the Diagnostic Software for resistance on the X and Y axis. Might be worth checking in that for any issues, I was unaware of it until yesterday. Very useful. SMART Settings > About > Tools > Diagnostics. -
Hi all, I'm testing a 2012R2 remote desktop server at the minute and have a question about metro. I've got the 'Apps' part of metro using our redirected start menu and have pinned a few of the important items for staff directly to the 'Start' portion of metro. However I want to add 'Desktop' and the 'My PC' option to the start area. How do I go about doing this!? I've had a look round online and can't seem to find anything. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi all, There have been situations in the past where staff were editing work (adding comments and such) to files in the student home areas. This was never meant to be the case and was seen as an oversight on our part when we re-did the share. However, it seems this is now something the staff wish to be able to do. However, when they edit and save the file the student gets an 'Access Denied' message when trying to open the document afterward. The only way to fix this is to re-apply the 'Full Access' folder permissions. Is there another way around this? Thanks in advance.

Got both on our VLSC. Not that I can download either currently!

Hi all, Sorry to drag this thread up. We have a similar setup here with Papercut, Roaming Profiles and using GPP (Computer Deployed) to target printers to the correct machines for the room they are in. Currently none of the printers deployed this way will talk to Papercut as I'm to understand this needs to be done as a 'Shared Printer' via the User Preferences rather than the Computer Preferences. My question is how do I go about targeting so the correct machines get the correct printers when doing a User Policy? I've got a mental block on the best way to do this. I've tried ILT against the Computer Groups we have already setup, but this doesn't work presumably as it's a user policy. Can anyone offer some advice? Thanks.

Browser based file share access
DevilsAdvocate replied to DevilsAdvocate's topic in Windows Server 2012
Thanks ADMaster. That looks like it will do just what I'm after. -
Hi all, Been trawling the web for about an hour now trying to figure out a solution for the following. We have a File server running 2012 that hosts a 'Common' share. This is accessed by staff via a mapped drive and is all fine and such. We've recently had a few changes at the top and they seem to be pushing for browser/cloud based access of files as well for 'ease' when not on domained machines. (they recently discovered drop box it would seem...). What's the best way for us to go about making this share available for viewing via web browser? Are there any Microsoft solutions to this? Thanks, Rob.

Have the Toyota designers/concept makers gone mad?
DevilsAdvocate replied to benjie's topic in General Chat
Crazy stuff. I hope cars NEVER get like that to be totally honest. -
Thanks for the replies all. Have investigated NRS and have received a quote that isn't too unreasonable. Will see how things progress with the other couple of companies we have contacted and let people know what we eventually go with Rob

We use CMIS (Facility) by Serco.

Hi all, Long time no post here! I've been asked to try and find us a new dinner system for the school. Currently we use a system installed by Cunninghams that uses software called 'Impact'. We use finger prints for pupil recognition and also on the reval machines for the kids to 'attach' money to their fingers (no cash changes hands between children and dinner staff) We have 6-7 tills that have now become extremely slow and the reval machines are looking somewhat tired. We paid a fair whack of money the first time this was installed and have had quite a few problems with the system and generally slow support from Cunninghams. So we'd like to see what else is out there. What are the good people of Edugeek using in your schools?! Thanks in advance. Rob.
